LX100 dead, quest to replace the little one. Cheap usefull camera replacement. https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/24068/lx100-dead-quest-to-replace-the-little-one.-cheap-usefull-camera-replacement. Thu, 09 Jul 2020 20:33:16 +0000 RoadsidePicnic 24068@/talks/discussions My LX100 is dying. Cant blame it after 6 years of service and lots of abuse. The lens started to get struck, lots of dust in sensor, I opened the thing and cleaned it a bit, put some white grease in the lens carriage (why they dont put it in factory to start with? why run it dry?), its better now but the lens motor still weak. Obviously they charge a hundred bucks for a little half a dozen dolar eletric motor.

Thing is, maybe is time to change the gear, so I'm doing some research and collecting info into an upgrade path/replacement here.

Scope:

  • personal camera

  • 4K30p or better

  • 2k60p or better

  • good bitrate, decent quality, don't mind raw

  • will not dump loads of money into it, ideally $800 fully operational

  • can make pro work, useful in-camera tools (yes LX100 was pretty capable, not talking about Ale$$$xa here)

  • wifi, stopmotion, timelapse, control app

  • hdmi not important but a plus

  • uses cheap media, cheap to stabilize and grip, minimally solid, will not sudenlly stop working on location, will not fry on mist, etc

Easy script for drag&drop merging of spanned AVCHD .MTS files (in Windows) https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/19340/easy-script-for-dragdrop-merging-of-spanned-avchd-.mts-files-in-windows Mon, 02 Apr 2018 12:15:02 +0000 MrZz 19340@/talks/discussions Today I needed to merge some spanned AVCHD/MTS files (because of the 4gb file soize limit on the fat32 capture card) together into one on my workstation. I just searched for this script which I normally used but since I couldn't find the script on my system, I rewrote it and thought I'd share it. Just for everyone else who has some use for this handy little script here's the code:

echo off
title Merge Files

set /p choice="Enter path to merge to: (eg. C:\video\test.MTS)"

if "%~1"=="" exit
if not "%~1"=="" SET one=%1
if not "%~2"=="" SET two= + %2
if not "%~3"=="" SET three= + %3
if not "%~4"=="" SET four= + %4
if not "%~5"=="" SET five= + %5
if not "%~6"=="" SET six= + %6
if not "%~7"=="" SET seven= + %7
if not "%~8"=="" SET eight= + %8
if not "%~9"=="" SET nine= + %9

copy /b %one%%two%%three%%four%%five%%six%%seven%%eight%%nine% "%choice%"

echo AVCHD Joining Complete.
pause

Just copy this code into a .txt and rename into .bat. Then you can just drag and drop the files, by selecting them and drag the first one on the .bat. You will then be prompted to input a destination path and name. You can merge a total of nine files into one this way.

Cheers!

Based on cages initially built by hand, this next generation cage will be CNC'd and even more feature-rich than the previous generations, as well as incredibly light weight and well-balanced!

While the design is nearly complete, I am still open to ideas and suggestions people here might have. We addressed many of the issues often experienced with other cages on the market and added a few extra features never before seen such as a relocatable grip option!

Sony F3 or BMCC (ended up with a Sony F35) https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5511/sony-f3-or-bmcc-ended-up-with-a-sony-f35 Mon, 17 Dec 2012 16:44:48 +0000 mlysbakken 5511@/talks/discussions I have been offered a used Sony F3 for only slightly more than what the Blackmagic Cinema Camera costs. I have long been intent on buying the Blackmagic, but now I'm unsure. I haven't tried any of these cameras personally, so any advice would be greatly appreciated! Which one produces the most attractive image to you? Does one handle motion better than the other? How about low-light and general usability? I'm also uncertain about the advantages of 12 bit RAW over 10 bit S-LOG, as well as 2.7k over 1080p. Will those aspects make a world of difference, and is it worth the hassle?

I guess it's a luxury problem. I've seen amazing stuff from both cameras!

JK Imaging Ltd., the worldwide licensee for KODAK PIXPRO Digital Cameras and Devices, today announced the next generation KODAK PIXPRO 4KVR360 Camera, a compact, single-body design to target the rapidly growing 360° VR video consumer market.

The 4KVR360 adopts a minimalist and stylish approach to an all-in-one 360° VR camera, with two 4K fixed focus lenses housed on either side of the futuristic camera body. Each lens is designed to work in tandem, to capture and automatically stitch full 360° 4K video* and easily upload 360° photos and videos to Facebook™ and 360° interactive videos to YouTube™ via the camera’s smart device app on the go.

“The 4KVR360 will join our award winning 360° VR camera line up and is the third 360° camera added to the KODAK PIXPRO portfolio,” said Mariame Cissé, Marketing Director for JK Imaging Ltd. in EMEA. “We are continuing to innovate and lead the interactive 360° VR camera market and are committed to providing multiple devices and options to not only consumers, but also to professional content creators when it comes to choosing a quality 360° VR camera based on their specific needs.”

JK Imaging is no latecomer to the 360° VR party and is considered one of the industry pioneers to bring one of the first 360° VR cameras to market over 2 years ago. As the VR market continues to take the tech sector by storm, JK Imaging is positioned as one of the leading companies to watch. Armed with world-class, hardware and software engineers, their dedicated product planning continues to push the envelope and evolve the 360° VR space.

Award winning hardware is not the company’s only strong suit. JK Imaging takes a very unique approach, by not only developing a streamlined process to capture and share VR videos directly to social media, but also offers value-add accessories and software with their cameras, which is another key differentiator from other companies in the VR camera space. All KODAK PIXPRO 360° cameras in the line include complimentary PIXPRO Editing and Stitching software for both Mac™ and PCs and include an assortment of useful camera accessories and mounts with each camera bundle at no extra cost.

With more and more consumers becoming increasingly tech savvy and personally engaging on a day-to-day basis with 360° videos on their social media feeds and more, they are looking for not only better video quality solutions, but also easier set up and simplified options to multi-camera rigs and countless hours of editing and stitching.

The 4KVR360 features two 20MP CMOS sensors and uses a Micro SD card (up to 128GB, class 10 or higher) to record 360° photos and videos. The 4KVR360 camera incorporates Wi-Fi® and NFC® compatibility for smart device apps to control and view the camera’s feed remotely. The 4KVR360 also features Bluetooth® compatibility in an optional remote control device that can be worn or mounted to the camera’s optional accessories for even easier control for the camera.

JK Imaging anticipates availability of the new 4KVR360 in the first quarter of 2017. The 4KVR360 base model will retail for 499€ and the company will continue to provide their customers with optional bundles that will include useful accessories and software designed to work in tandem with the 4KVR360 camera
