GH4 same issue? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10140/jitterchoppy-playback-solution-gh4-same-issue Fri, 11 Apr 2014 07:42:08 +0000 cogumelo 10140@/talks/discussions I'm still having trouble to playback MOV 1080 60p footage from my GH3 on my macs (a macbook retina displays and a MacPro 8core 24GB Ram). Those files playback normally on the camera, but it's quite choppy or jittery on my computer, specially on pan movements. Does it has a solution? conversion or transcoding? Is it a mac problem? a codec problem? or GH3 problem? I also got jitter recoding on all setting of 1080 60p, using my other camera, NEX 5N, that also records 1080 60p AVCHD I got no problems at all, the files playbacks just right, but I also think the NEX footage is 59,94i converted on camera to 60p or 59,94p... I don't now... I think if maybe the gh3 were capable to records 60i in MOV mode it wouldn't happen.... I think the problem is due the progressive fields, or YUV to RGB conversion problem....I don't know... because when I transcode the files using 5dtoRGB software, it gets better, less jitter, but they still there! If we're having trouble to playback 1080p 60p, can you imagine what gonna happen with the 4k files? I've pre-order a GH4, but I'm thinking twice if it's worth to... I don't want more headache with playback issues... I'm thinking to move to Sony A7s.... That's SAD!!! Anyone knows the real reason why we can't playback those files??? what should I say to my clients that got choppy footage? my camera is rubbish! or your computer is rubbish!??? WTF? That's just sad!

Batch automation for 5DtoRGB on Windows? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8139/batch-automation-for-5dtorgb-on-windows Tue, 17 Sep 2013 05:15:12 +0000 Yosh 8139@/talks/discussions Has anyone managed to get 5DtoRGB on Windows working with a batch function? I have Paolo Rudelli's 5dtoRGB Batch Gui software but it only recognises Movs not MTS. Someone mentioned 'editing the code' so that it recognises MTS but I have no idea how to do something like that.

Can anyone help? Surely someone out there is working on windows and needs to process large numbers of files through 5DtoRGB? I'd be willing to pay/donate for an MTS-adapted version of the above BatchGUI or something similar.

FYI I'm taking GH2 footage into Avid at DNXHD185x using 5DtoRGB. It works great, but not being able to batch process is a nightmare.

Fracking Feature Documentary Shot w/ GH2 Driftwood 88mbs — Is GH2 Fit For Documentaries? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4762/fracking-feature-documentary-shot-w-gh2-driftwood-88mbs-is-gh2-fit-for-documentaries- Sat, 29 Sep 2012 16:25:02 +0000 jbpribanic 4762@/talks/discussions Trailer & intro to feature length documentary shot on GH2 driftwood hack (88mbs), transcoded w/ 5DtoRGB, edited in FCP, and color graded w/ CC3way:

Looking for any thoughts on color grading, or general impressions; and for anyone who is familiar with fracking to help us spread the word about the film. I'm also curios about whether people think the GH2 is fit for documentary productions?

Triple Divide » A Synopsis

Triple Divide attempts to answer the question, “How are state regulations and industry handling impacts from fracking?”

Actor Mark Ruffalo co-narrates this 18-month cradle-to-grave investigation by Public Herald, an investigative news nonprofit co-founded by journalists Joshua Pribanic and Melissa Troutman. Triple Divide features never before seen interviews with industry giants and advocates, exclusive reports with impacted landowners, uncovered state documents, and expert testimonies.

The film reveals how water contamination is being covered up by the industry and the state, essentially rewriting the history of water quality in Pennsylvania by dismissing predrill tests. Meanwhile, state regulators are using compliance as a means of regulating without enforcing the law, abandoning the public in the wake of shale gas development.

Triple Divide’s title represents one of only four Triple Continental Divides in North America, a place that provides drinking water to millions of Americans and feeds rivers that reach three separate sides of the continent, signaling to the audience that everything, and everyone, is downstream from shale gas extraction.

5dtoRGB and GH3 transcoding https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7401/5dtorgb-and-gh3-transcoding Mon, 01 Jul 2013 11:24:08 +0000 mastroiani 7401@/talks/discussions I just purchazed 5dtoRGB Batch version of the software and wanted to transcode some IPB .MOV files form my GH3 camera. I used Full Range Luminance setting (screenshot attached). However, the resulting file is identical to the original .MOV file. I thought I was supposed to get a "flatter" image with some recovered highlights, perhaps? In fact, I might be wrong, but the resulting file has ever so slightly increased contrast. It's almost imperceptible and I might be wrong. I'll try to add screenshots to this posting.

In any case, I don't see any changes in the new transcoded file.

I also ran some MTS files from my hacked GH2 and the results are there! I get flat image from GH2 files, but not from GH3.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thank you all in advance.

Grading MTS vs. ProRes converted files on OS X: is there a concensus? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7298/grading-mts-vs.-prores-converted-files-on-os-x-is-there-a-concensus Wed, 19 Jun 2013 11:14:14 +0000 Alienhead 7298@/talks/discussions I just started grading my footage with Premiere CS6 after using Final Cut Pro for a long time. I had been converting all my files to ProRes using 5D to RGB, which was the original recommendation of Andrew Reid on EOSHD. Then more recently he said it wasn't necessary to do that anymore because there's a fix in Premiere where you increase input and output levels to 15 and 235 respectively http://www.eoshd.com/content/8612/mac-avchd-gamma-issues-the-fix

In an AVCHD timeline in Premiere Pro CS6, I imported two clips, one the original MTS and the other a converted ProRes of that clip. But the result was not fixed by only 15 and 235 input/output adjustment, it required something closer to 40 and 215. And that did not mean that the result was the same, there was still more blue in the highlights and shadows in the MTS vs. the ProRes. Further adjustment would be needed, but the ProRes conversion was more balanced.

This was just my first test, and I'm no expert in this, but it seems like conversion to ProRes still makes sense. What are other people's take on this?

Macro-blocking on AVCHD but not on MJPEG ? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7129/macro-blocking-on-avchd-but-not-on-mjpeg- Sat, 01 Jun 2013 13:21:59 +0000 TruHype 7129@/talks/discussions Hi, I've discovered that there was Macro-blocking on AVCHD 24p video (even when transcoded with 5d2RGB), but not with MJPEG ! I was using the 'Apocalypse now Cluster v7 DREWNET 444 Soft Matrix' (MJPEG 2k and changed 30p to 24p with ptools).

How do I get rid of it ?

5DtoRGB batch Windows help https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5598/5dtorgb-batch-windows-help Fri, 28 Dec 2012 05:49:23 +0000 Yosh 5598@/talks/discussions I use 5DtoRGB to convert to DNXHD for post in Avid. Desperate to find some way to batch convert and leave overnight.

Paolo Rudelli's Batch software AFAIK is only useful for dealing with MOV files you have already created using 5DtoRGB. It's no use for batch converting original MTS rushes - or am I missing a trick?

Someone who has a good Windows 5DtoRGB GH2 workflow - please help! (I'm using Flowmotion 100Mb btw) Thanks so much

Commercial / promo for Sagene, Oslo, Norway - flow motion hack https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4840/commercial-promo-for-sagene-oslo-norway-flow-motion-hack Mon, 08 Oct 2012 11:55:27 +0000 cekrem 4840@/talks/discussions http://vimeo.com/welterwerk/sagene

Welterwerk Filmkompani recently shot this short promo for Sagene, a district of Oslo, Norway. Shot exclusively on our hacked GH2. Zeiss glass! :) Time was short, and the budget was ridiculously low - but we’re quite happy with the result.

The rain-like, diagonal noise showed up in quite a few shots, but disappeared when transcoding in 5DtoRGB. Weird! Other than that, the GH2 - and the hack - performed like expected: top notch!

Enjoy! And if you haven’t already, check out Welterwerks own promo video: http://vimeo.com/welterwerk/welterwerk

Automator App to rename .MTS and generate .THM files for 5DtoRGB https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2714/automator-app-to-rename-.mts-and-generate-.thm-files-for-5dtorgb Wed, 28 Mar 2012 13:27:34 +0000 simonstar66 2714@/talks/discussions Hi everyone

I had some workflow troubles because the .MTS files often have identical names and there is no timecode in the Quicktimes when I generate them with 5DtoRGB.

I wrote a short Automator app, which adds the creation time to the .MTS filename and generates a .THM file with the creation date and time as EXIF data.

For it to work you need ExifTool: http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/

And the file template.THM has to be in /Applications/THM creator/

When you convert these files with 5DtoRGB (Batch) it will add timecode to the Quicktimes.

Feel free to use it or change and improve it if you have more ideas. For example I wanted to create the .THM file as a real thumbnail from the .MTS. But didn't manage. Will be very useful for me as I'll not run into the annoying situation anymore when there are files with identical names and timecodes. Hopefully it is useful for some of you, too.

Cheers
