Mergers: Syrp life inside Vitec is not really good
  • Syrp was built from a foundation of filmmaking, photography, and innovation. Starting in 2012 from Kickstarter we set out to re-think motion control from the ground up developing the Genie for motion video and timelapse; we brought smooth motion control to the masses with a focus on design and portability.

Fast forward 10 years and we’ve continued along this path expanding our motion control line releasing sliders, mobile apps and accessories to create a full ecosystem of products for today’s creators all the while rigorously iterating from feedback from our internal and external film team.

In 2019 our journey went a step further as we joined the Vitec Group, working alongside leading video and photographic brands such as Manfrotto, Lowepro, Gitzo and JOBY to expand our footprint and invest further into R&D.

Now as we approach 2022, we are taking our next step in this evolution as we continue to intertwine our internal content team with our R&D team to create a unique approach for innovation and product development.

In 2022, we will become Syrp Lab. A center for innovation and content creation, expanding our team and working closely together to create the next generation of tools for creators, plugging in our ideas and R&D expertise into the brands that make up Vitec Imaging Solutions. Our team will not only focus on product development but also educating creators about how to use tools to create the absolute best content in the form of a dedicated YouTube channel and accompanying education website.

With this new approach we will emerge with a greater focus and energy on creating new disruptive tools, hyper-focused on user-centered design and best-in-class products for the end user. As a result, over the coming months you will notice our logo changing to Syrp Lab with a refined brand, website and social channels coupled with an all-new education channel.

So what does this mean for you as an existing Syrp customer?

As part of this journey and re-brand to Syrp Lab, our products will transition to be under the Manfrotto umbrella from both a branding and purchasing point of view, in order for us to be fully focused on the new Syrp Lab vision. Syrp products will become a part of the Manfrotto Move ecosystem, a series of supports, motion control and stabilizers that seamlessly work together to enable you to create faster than ever before. The Syrp app will also transition to Manfrotto in order to create a unified end user experience across all products.

Going forward Syrp products will still be developed and supported by exactly the same team based in Auckland, New Zealand led by the same founders, and we will continue to be available through support and other channels in order to bring you the best motion tools on the planet.

If you are an existing owner of Syrp products your warranty will automatically be transferred to Manfrotto. Furthermore, you will have access to an expanded and localized support team globally making it much easier to get hold of support and accessories when required.
