  • @theusualeditor The reason for the shakiness handheld is the lack of IBIS, and maybe the form factor, including the need for a big external battery, which is attached to the camera bottom.

The second issue is the very dim, fixed screen. This shortcoming is overcome with the Pro version, which is even larger.

Here is a similar video shot with the Sony fx3, which is far more stable:

  • @markr041 Having tested so many other models, do you have an opinion on the strongest downsides of the Blackmagic 6K camera?

For example, Looking at the product images , I am still not sold on the form factor when handheld, since I use a lot of old photo lenses and they tend to be sturdy and heavy. It seems to me that most lenses would unbalance the camera, making it front heavy. From the last sample you posted, I see a lot of wiggle movement all the way to the sides. Could the form factor be the cause? Thanks again

  • @theusualeditor The Blackmagic reds used to be a bit orange as well, and that is corrected.

I do not work for any store or camera manufacturer. And I am not an "influencer" who gets free stuff from manufacturers to flog their products (while of course claiming they are unbiased...).

  • Thanks for yet another sample @markr041 it does resolve a lot more detail that I was expecting. I also like that the blacks are black.. The tell-tale of Blackmagic cameras used to be Blue-ish tint in the blacks.

Do you happen to work for B&H/Adorama or similar store? Going through your channel, you have access to a wealth of cameras that the rest of us can only dream about.

  • Generation 5 Color Science is also instituted in the BMPCC6K (not just the PRO version) with the latest firmware update. And it is not just an improvement in skin tones:

  • This is a serious camera, so only serious videos, please (e.g.,videos walking behind girlfriends at the beach at dusk, shots of the sun shining through tree leaves, handheld shaky videos in dark nightclubs, with extra grain, anorexic models with blank stares, decolorized shots of gas stations and automobiles). Otherwise, a waste of 6K.

  • 5.7K 30p and 60p video uploaded in 5.7K:

60p for slow motion. Can be played in 5K on YouTube.

  • Audio test, or, just jazz if you don't care (Washington Square Park, NYC, and the only live music with a live audience is outdoors).

  • Camera Control 1.0.3

  • @sammy

Even if they had new camera, they will postpone it at least by six months.

  • hmm maybe a new camera is coming , they usually do that

  • Blackmagic Design today announced a new lower price for the popular Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K of US$1,995. This is a reduction of $500 which will help make this camera more affordable for users working on digital film as well as live production with the new ATEM Mini switchers. With the current demand for multi camera live streaming from home broadcast studios, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K makes a perfect studio camera when combined with the recent studio camera software update!

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K is available immediately from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide for US$1,995.

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera now works as a studio camera for live production when used with ATEM Mini. Video and control is via the HDMI connection, which is available as soon as customers plug the cameras in. The record light becomes a tally light so customers can see which camera is on air. The ATEM Software Control camera page has a camera control unit (CCU) style interface for adjusting and matching their cameras. Move the CCU control vertically for iris and left to right to adjust black level. It's the same as a broadcast CCU. There are also controls for color tint to balance camera as well as focus, gain and shutter speed. Customers can even ISO record Blackmagic RAW in the camera for editing later.

The elegant design of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera packs an incredible number of high end digital film features into a miniaturized, handheld design. Made from lightweight carbon fiber polycarbonate composite, the camera features a multifunction handgrip with all controls for recording, ISO, WB and shutter angle right at their fingertips.

Featuring a larger 6144 x 3456 Super 35 sensor and EF lens mount, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K model lets customers use larger EF photographic lenses to create cinematic images with shallower depth of field, allowing creative defocussed backgrounds and gorgeous bokeh effects.

  • Blackmagic , ursa 4.6k sensor is close to arri alexa sensor in terms of over all match, having both of them i can say its about 1.5 to 2 stops of dynamic range, better colors on the arri , and more useful look at low light. With that said I do sometimes finding my self thinking these things are close, like 8 out of 10 close..the next camera that replaces the 4.6k sensor might be one to look out for

  • ^ Really trying to get the point of that guy's video ^ @MikeLinn . It's not very comparative. That tunnel shot is in no way like the shot where the guy walks into the work room. It works better as a "ooh, look what an Alexa can do!" video.

  • Blackmagic Camera Setup 6.8

    • Improved camera startup time.
    • Improved USB PTP control performance.
    • Fixed issue with the slow mounting of media containing a large number of clips.
    • Fixed issue where EF lens stabilization cannot be turned on if the camera is started with lens IS turned off.
