Companies closing 360 and VR departments and projects https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/24545/companies-closing-360-and-vr-departments-and-projects Sun, 04 Oct 2020 06:55:30 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 24545@/talks/discussions Samsung closed quite big department that worked on CR and 360 videos and apps for VR.

Google recently closed DreamVR and fired bunch of people responsible for VR related activities.

Facebook cut staff working on their VR gaming and hardware apps, rumors are that next 20% cuts will follow in January.

Some developers at Apple who worked on software and hardware for internal VR headset and apps had been fired or transferred to their AR project.

Xiaomi stopped making VR products and dismantled small department responsible for some design and working with actual manufacturers who amde product for company.

Around 30-35% of independent companies and studios specializing on VR games and apps closed in last 12 months.

Insta360 and few remaining hardware companies are feeling so-so, sales continue to fall as most of them had been made by customers going on tours or holidays.

Companies that are feeling quite good are one that make virtual tours for selling homes, but they are also very worried as market started to show signs of problems. Some of clients rejected their offers and preferred cheap 2d photos sometimes with fast gimbal run instead.

Sales reduced by 6.7%, next year IDC that always want to please their buyers predicts sudden 46% surge.

In reality 2020 year could be 4-5x times worse if not isolation, as big amount of sales came from VR home sales tours, VR tourist tours and alikes, both for headsets and cameras.

Samsung will slowly shut down its XR service applications over the next few months until they’re completely gone by September 30th. The tech giant says it’s ending the service, because it’s “rethinking its immersive video distribution” method, “especially given that Gear VR is no longer available.” The tech giant has already suspended 360-degree video uploads and premium video purchases, and it won’t be rolling out any further updates. Oculus devices will no longer support the Samsung VR Video app starting on June 30th.

It is expected that Samsung fully cut VR group inside, including both hardware (windows headsets) and software.

Most companies going out of VR as prospects of fast and easy profits never realised.

VR Headsets have issues with sales https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16975/vr-headsets-have-issues-with-sales Sat, 20 May 2017 08:03:21 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 16975@/talks/discussions

Virtual reality was supposed to be the next big thing, but headsets haven’t exactly been flying off the shelves. The question is, why?

There were $1.48 billion in VR hardware sales in 2016, according to SuperData Research. That is far from the $12.65 billion the research firm is forecasting for 2020. That estimate has come down, and there is still reason to question whether VR will get there.

In March, digital marketing research firm Thrive Analytics asked the question to internet users who weren’t interested in owning a VR headset. The survey, as summarized by eMarketer, showed many of the expected reasons: the headsets were too expensive, lack of virtual reality content and poor quality of what was out there, and fear of motion sickness.

The biggest chunk, some 53%, said they were “just not interested.” Perhaps actual reality is difficult enough.

Rylo bought by VSCO, no more 360 cameras https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23227/rylo-bought-by-vsco-no-more-360-cameras Tue, 10 Dec 2019 10:04:16 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 23227@/talks/discussions

We’re excited to announce the acquisition of Rylo, the makers of a compact camera with powerful video stabilization technology. We know demand for video editing is only growing across the industry and it is no different on VSCO. This acquisition not only enables us to further accelerate the delivery of innovative video editing features for our community, but reinforces how important video will be for VSCO’s growth and future.

In just the past year, we’ve seen video editing double on VSCO, and DSCO our GIF creation tool remains one of our most popular features. It’s clear that our users want more video tools and new ways to tell their stories through creative self-expression. Though Rylo is most well-known for manufacturing compact cameras, over the past several months the Rylo team has been exclusively working on mobile video editing tools. Building high-end video editing capability on mobile is no small feat and we believe our combined technology and focus on video will help pave new innovation for video editing tools. We can’t wait to make these new tools available to the VSCO community next year.

We are also incredibly excited to bring on board an impressive team from Rylo that includes co-founders, Alex Karpenko and Chris Cunningham. The entire team brings deep experience in developing and shipping video technology at scale, including co-creating Instagram’s timelapse and direct messaging features and iPhoto for iOS.

From the first meeting with Alex and Chris, I felt an immediate alignment around how we could help people connect with and invest in their creativity. This is probably what excites me the most about Rylo joining VSCO — we have acquired not only some of the best video editing technology available today, but an incredibly talented and humble team who share our desire to help unlock creativity for everyone.

We’re excited to welcome the Rylo team to our Oakland headquarters this week and look forward to building the next generation of mobile-first video editing tools together.

Jan. 9, 2018 – Humaneyes Technologies today at CES 2018 announced the launch of its next-generation VR, 3D 360 camera, the Vuze+ VR Camera. Targeted toward prosumers for $1,199, the Vuze+ VR Camera is the first camera to give VR content creators, filmmakers, and video and production industry pros the full suite of tools needed for capturing, producing and sharing VR content, all within one eco-system. The camera includes sophisticated capture functionality, such as live broadcasting and custom lenses for improved image quality, and is accompanied by Vuze VR Studio editing software, as well as access to Humaneyes Zone, an industry-first VR platform enabling users to host, stream and share VR content with anyone via a simple hyperlink.

“The VR camera market has steadily grown, but only few camera options allow users to shoot in true VR with 3D video. Additionally, once a video is shot and produced, many users don’t have a way to easily share their VR stories, which has been the key missing component in helping drive VR adoption,” said Humaneyes Technologies’ CEO, Shahar Bin-Nun. “The Vuze+ VR Camera addresses this issue and expands the VR ecosystem from true VR capture to production to consumption, allowing anyone to create and share truly immersive VR experiences.”

The Vuze+ VR Camera features:

  • Live broadcasting, allowing anyone to live preview a scene while they are shooting video, as well as broadcast live 3D 360 4K video to Facebook, YouTube, Periscope and any RTMP platform. Live broadcasting capabilities can also be added to the original Vuze VR Camera for $199. Available now on PC, with Mac availability coming later this year.
  • Enhanced capture features, including enhanced optics with custom lenses and improved audio with spatial audio output. IP65 capabilities, with higher water and dust protection, enabling users to shoot in heavier rain or while they’re participating in watersports.
  • A sturdier body and enhanced user interface.

New software features available for both the Vuze+ and original Vuze VR Camera are:

  • The Vuze Camera App, which now enables full manual control and live preview, additional capture mode with 60 fps for 2D 360 videos, time lapse capabilities, new exposure settings, photo stitching from within the app and the ability to share a VR photo from the app directly to social networks such as Facebook and Instagram. Now available on Android, with iOS availability coming soon.
  • Production features, including the Vuze VR Studio software, touting horizon stabilization, enhanced editing capabilities and more output formats. Five licenses are included with each camera.
  • Sharing features, including the new Humaneyes Zone, an industry-first VR publishing and sharing platform based on VR website technology.

The Humaneyes Zone Enables New and Easy VR Storytelling

The Humaneyes Zone is an industry-first open platform, which takes VR storytelling to the next level, providing an end-to-end solution for prosumers. The site enables anyone, without a need for a technical or programming knowledge, to quickly and easily create a VR website to showcase their VR content. On the webpage, users can incorporate images, videos and text, plus additional pages and interlink them, just like a regular website, allowing anyone to tell a story in VR, whether it’s a tour of an apartment, a training session, a wedding or just showcasing a vacation. With a simple hyperlink, users can easily share a VR website with anyone. The viewer can simply click a link and view the content in any browser, and for the best viewing experience, can use a VR headset with their phone.

A free Humaneyes Zone branded website is available for any VR user for their first two months of use, and hosts up to 15 GB of content. After that, a user can sign-up for a Basic plan for $9.99/month or $99/year, which includes 5 GB of content with the Humaneyes branded domain; a Premium plan for $14.95/month or $149/year, which includes 15 GB of content and the Humaneyes branded domain; or a Pro plan for $19.95/month or $199/year which includes 30 GB of content and a custom branded domain.

The Vuze+ VR Camera and new enhancements announced today will be available for demo at CES in LVCC South Hall 1 at the Humaneyes Technologies booth #21018. In addition, visitors can sit back and enjoy the Vuze Theatre, a lounge environment featuring ongoing screening of short VR films focusing on storytelling; walk-through the Vuze Experience Zone, an open environment taking each visitor through the entire Vuze journey of content creation, production and sharing; as well as hear from experts throughout the day on how to make money in VR with real use cases presented.
