Quite a progress, as for --- (all shipped!) you get quite good camera base, handel, five rods, thumbscrews are all metal.
Normally around $80 is lowest price for this baseplate only.

Link removed, as it is not actual.

Btw GreatPhoto ebay seller, is just bitch full of lies. Never buy anything from him.

If you want one and only first rig, I still think advanced rig from our deals is better, as it is offset and handles are much better.

Questions about camera rig bases. https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4135/questions-about-camera-rig-bases. Thu, 02 Aug 2012 22:34:41 +0000 Hunter5117 4135@/talks/discussions I am building my first rig and had ordered a Lanparte base through an Ebay supplier from China. Unfortunately it arrived damaged so today I sent it back. Now I am looking for another. Liked the Lanparte fine except was disappointed that the camera QR base would not accept Manfrotto camera plates. So I am looking at alternatives, mainly the Tilta. Question, will it accept the Manfrotto plates? Failing that, is there a base unit out there that is as rugged and flexible that does accept these plates, other than modding one with a Manfrotto QR base unit? Also, what is the group opinion on the Tilta vs the Lanparte?

Another question I have about the Tilta is the fastening mechanism for the cage arms to the base. All the pics I have seen show some sort of slotted fingers on the arms the fit into the base. How rugged is this connection, any chance of it coming apart and dropping your rig if you are holding by the top handle? Thanks.

Continio Cage for the BMD Cinema Camera https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4061/continio-cage-for-the-bmd-cinema-camera Fri, 27 Jul 2012 18:33:26 +0000 kavadni 4061@/talks/discussions I have decided to preorder the Continio Cage http://www.viewfactor.net/products/blackmagic/contineo-bmc.html

Here is View Factor's blog announcement. http://www.viewfactor.net/products/blackmagic/contineo-bmc.html

I'll review when I get it.

It's $299 and for the cage and the rail block you see at the bottom. An additional rail block is $99 .. top rods.

I have had email discussion with the makers about attaching the BMD handles (which I have ordered) to the bottom of the rail block .. while the holes in the rail block are threaded, there is not a hole specifically for the guide pin on the handles. They said if they had put the guide pin hole in then you'd loose one of the mounting holes .. they may have an option for that. I can live with it if they can't provide a solution .. if it's on my full rig then I'll use the Lanparte handles .. also am not sure I'd want the BMD handles poking out the side if I'm on the tripod or using my DP6 .. I tend to need the handles under the camera when carrying a lot of weight.

I have been told it gives a perfect 85mm lens height from the rods. The BMCC itself appears to have the lens at it's dead centre. The Contigio is also symetrical so the a second rail block will give a perfect 170mm top rails to bottom rails.

I am hoping they will come up with a top handle, and I hope it will attach to both the top of the cage itself or to the top of their rod block.

And $10 to have your name engraved on it .. I trying to get that added to my order.

It is probably the sleekest cage I ever seen. I've spent a lot of time thinking about what a BMD cage should be .. it's so clever the way they have avoided adding any width .. I nver thought of that.

I am not concerned about protecting the camera, only with holding rigid.

A strap that will just go through the holes on each side of the camera? With the normal strap mounts they flap about and make a lot of sound, they also look very cheap. Ideally I think I'd need a a strap with a loop hole but I can't find one so I was wondering if anyone else is in the same situation?

I am very happy with it, great quality for the price, for those who were doubting if the base can be mounted on a tripod, answer is yes it does as long as you do not need to adjust hight of the camera, a future you can do with the base out of the tripod. Since I plan to use it with the "matte box for beginners" from the same manufacturer and I can adjust the hight of the matte box they go perfect together. Everything looks very sturdy, all metal, shoulder pad very confortable but not as handsome as the rest of the rig. In fact the only plastic part is the top of the shoulder pad, but it looks durable. Here a pic with my "matte box for beginners" sorry for the bad picture.

It may be a Redrock Micro and if so, what make/model is it? They don't have anything like it on their website at the moment.

Also, if anyone knows of similar rigs where the main rod can be adjusted and set below the shoulder (seems most of them being made are simply straight rods parallel to the shoulder). I also like that the handles are closer together rather than so far apart as is the case with most models.

Thanks!

GH3/GH2/GH1 Cage CNC Solid Block Aluminium Development https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3250/gh3gh2gh1-cage-cnc-solid-block-aluminium-development- Fri, 18 May 2012 06:07:12 +0000 jakef 3250@/talks/discussions Firstly I would like to thank everyone's input regarding the GH2 as well as details about cage requirements throughout Personal View. VK I like that you say things as it is... also all developers thank you and well done with the "The Great Camera Shootout" results!

I'm currently finalising Cad drawings for the Cage, my idea is to make a cage that would complement the GH2 visually as well as being practical in a profesional environment.

I know we would like all bells and wistles (anything can be made or added) but please keep in mind that i need to keep the cost down as so far machining time looks to be around one hour per cage plus black hard anodising plus included accesories ie; HDMI clamp . Saying that i would like to price it realistically. So far i'm very exited, the Cage looks very professional. I will attach pics as soon as i finish drawings sometime next week. If all goes well we could have a batch of 25 in a 2-3 weeks.

A bit about me, I've enjoyed building film equipment as much as i have using a camera. Thus far i've build and tweaked various rigs ie; stabliser, motorised timelapse slider, follow focus rig. I've also played around with converting bolex lenses for Micro 43, some 8mm lenses do work with the GH2 EX Tele Conv Mode with great results. I started using the GF1 when the hack talks was still on another forum, and i'm now using a GH2. I am passionate about seeing professional equipment becoming more accessible for all filmakers to focus on creativity to tell their stories.

I am based near Richmond in the UK where the cage will be made.

I appreciate any input regarding this venture.

What is the quality like?

I'm looking to put together a straight-through shoulder rig for my GH2 that has the same footprint as a traditional shoulder cam (think VariCam). I want to be able to build it with a mic pre-amp and a couple of radio receivers on the back and a matte box on the front to go straight from my shoulder to sticks. I'm using Canon FD lenses which are fairly heavy so I will probably need to counterweight at the back with either weights or eventually a power system. Oh yeah, and I want to keep the cost down which puts the Lanparte and other big names out of range for me. I was hoping to keep the cost below $300 (I already have the matte box and don't need follow focus). Any advice? ( I know - dangerous question on a forum, hah).
