Pentax thoughts https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3966/pentax-thoughts Thu, 19 Jul 2012 03:32:43 +0000 haute 3966@/talks/discussions Hello, I wanted to revive the forum with the intention to progress more in the Hack of the pentax.

All this came the need of a friend downgrade a firmware 1.13 to 1.12 In a Pentax K-5 by problems in focus with tungsten light.

I did some research with a Pentax K-7 and its firmware and discovered several things. But the most important and which I think is the cause of the hack of the pentax has not been made possible, I have managed to introduce several ways firmware modified. I'm pretty sure that works in K5, Kx and Kr as well, but I dare say that in older models and new models too like K-30

I want people who have contributed much in this thread, . to renew their illusions. Publish their progress.

The first thing you would need is a good disassembly of any of these models (very similar). I have Ida Pro 5.5, but my knowledge of assembler are rather poor and I can not get to disassemble the code well.

If I can today, will try to test this in a K-5.

I leave you a snapshot of a small text change in the firmware of a K7, which is the model that has left me a friend.

A great

Samsung NX system - future hacks considerable? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3506/samsung-nx-system-future-hacks-considerable Fri, 08 Jun 2012 05:44:27 +0000 MountainKing 3506@/talks/discussions Hi,

I don't know. Maybe this isn't the right place for posting such a question (please place it in the right forum then).

Probably this question can be answered with a really short answer - yes or no. But if "maybe" is the answer then I'd be glad for a few more informations. So my questions:

Are there any plans on hacks for Samsung NX cameras? Is it even "considerable"?

How would you compare the NX video capabilities in comparison to Pana's G/GF/GH/GX video performance (at least the Samsung NX200 comes with full HD features 1080p60 AFAIK)?

I find this a really neat little system with an amount of GREAT little pancake lenses that are quite affordable. So to ME it seems really interesting but of course it would be better having hacks that would improve video performances. I'm curious about the answer(s).

Cheers Jens

Things that I like is the VGA OLED screen.
They also have 1.44Mp viewfinder (ala GH1). 1920 x 1080 30fps and 24 fps using H.264

Now you can use your tablet or smartphone as viewfinder (monitor) via Wi-Fi and also adjust camera parameters using it.

SEVEN Reasons to add a Pentax K-01 to your GH2 kit https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3273/seven-reasons-to-add-a-pentax-k-01-to-your-gh2-kit Sat, 19 May 2012 18:30:54 +0000 bubba 3273@/talks/discussions I love the Pentax mirrorless K-01, really love it! I also think it works well with the Hacked GH2 (thanks VK) system, each camera system adding to the other.

Each camera has major strong points...

The GH2, as hacked, is much better for video, but the GH2 has just a few weaknesses, ...all of which are addressed by the addition of the equally cheap Pentax camera.

1.) The K-01 is both a good video and a great stills camera. I much prefer the K-01 for stills.

2.) The K-01 is way better at high iso (video and stills) than the GH2 ...useful when there is no alternative to shooting -in low light: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1036&message=41548437&changemode=1 http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1036&message=41559032

3.) The K-01 is a fast panning bandit...no rolling shutter issues -likely due to the K-01's internal IS ...and blazing card write speeds.

4.) ALL Pentax lenses, all of them, work great on both cameras. Pentax lenses on GH2/K-01: http://whatblogisthis.blogspot.com/

5.) There are some (selected) shots just better with APS-C size sensors... The IQ can just be so much better!

6.) The faster, newer rendering engine on the K-01 takes full advantage of fast SDXC UHS-1 cards

7.) The K-01 is not a Nikon, Canon, or a Sony!

The New Samsung NX series (NX20, 210, 1000) https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3034/the-new-samsung-nx-series-nx20-210-1000- Fri, 27 Apr 2012 20:23:49 +0000 JayB38 3034@/talks/discussions Here's some info one of Samsung's DSLR lineup. http://www.dpreview.com/articles/4755461255/samsung-nx20-first-impressions

I'm afraid it's too early to tell, with all the new features of 20.x MP APS-C sensor, it's Video Mode 1920 x 1080 (30 fps), 1920 x 810 (24 fps) 1280 x 720 (30 fps), 640 x 480 (30 fps), 320 x 240 (30 fps) with Multi-motion recording : x0.25 (640, 320 only), x0.5 (1280, 640, 320 only), x5, x10, x20... it may be a hit or miss without input on being it NTSC or PAL and such.

I wanted to share this info...

K-01 Datarate during video..here it is https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2470/k-01-datarate-during-video..here-it-is Sat, 03 Mar 2012 11:37:55 +0000 chrischtili 2470@/talks/discussions Hi, i wrote an email to Pentax Support and asked them about the Mbps. Here is the original answer:

"Sehr geehrter Herr/Frau,

At least better than 17. But never heard of 21. I know Sony does 24/28. But what is 21 Mbps?
