I've just hired a 45mm TSE lens for 48hrs, it cost me about £52 including the return postage. The 48hrs didn't include the delivery and return day. They box up the lens in a plastic tupperware style box and a very soft lens bag. The service seems quite pleasant.

Not used a TSE before, here are my experiments:

I am going to attempt to make an adapter for it, but as of right now the focal distance is almost 6 inches so I am going to need some sort of reducer lens assembly to get it closer to the sensor.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I could do this?

I have tried a macro step lens kit, tried taking out the rear assembly out of some old broken lenses to see if they would do the trick and unfortunately with them on it vignettes too much to use.

The closest thing I have found was a 50mm f4 development enlargement lens but still vignettes and obviously reduces that 1.2 to a much higher Fstop.

I would really appreciate some input from anyone who has attempted to make adapters themselves! This would make for the fastest wide angle ever!!

think 1.2 at 8.5mm

TASTY!

Fisheye for GH2 : Rokinon 7.5mm f3.5 OR Rokinon 8mm f2.8 with adapter ? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8798/fisheye-for-gh2-rokinon-7.5mm-f3.5-or-rokinon-8mm-f2.8-with-adapter- Sun, 17 Nov 2013 04:41:27 +0000 TruHype 8798@/talks/discussions Hello everyone,

I just recently wanted to buy a fisheye lens to filming skateboard videos, but I came across 2 different fisheyes :

  • The Rokinon 7.5mm f3.5 for Micro 4/3

Or

  • The Rokinon 8mm f2.8 for Sony E-mount (NEX-7, NEX-5, NEX-3...) + Adapter

The thing is I know the Rokinon for M4/3 is going to fit directly on my camera (tried it in a shop), but the Rokinon for Sony is much faster, but maybe a little less wide...

Can you please help me choose ?

Thank you.

Vintage Lenses https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8765/vintage-lenses Wed, 13 Nov 2013 06:47:20 +0000 Renovatio 8765@/talks/discussions First: Is there a place we can talk about this old world? Cause if it's, we can close this topic and apologize to all.

Second: if it isn't, i would like to discuss with you about the "bargain" sometimes i read we can do with this lenses. This bargain, is it real? I'm starting to look for some video solutions for me: Nikon d5200 or Bmpcc (it depends how much you want to spend). But it's not an individual problem, cause with mft mount (gh2-gh3-g6-bmpcc) you can use every lens, pratically, while nikon has always its "F" mount, and that's special: you could invest in some lens while you have aps-c sensor, knowing you could use the same lens on full frame.

So, which lens do you suggest? Wide and fast solutions? Thanks to all.

Here are some new stuff taken with my favorite light and sharp anamorphic combo. Tell me what you think ! Thanks for watching !

http://www.flickr.com/photos/43243778@N04/10688604023/

This movie has been shoot a week-end mid october in Bordeaux, and first week-end of november in the countryside. I'm glad to have now I think the perfect anamorphic set combination for my baby Hypergonar anamorphic lens. I bought few weeks ago a used Qioptiq C-mount lens, usually used in industry. This lens is very sharp, even at it's fastest aperture (f1.6) and this wide aperture is still usable with the anamorphic on it ! Some of the shot of the movie had been taken at f1.6.

The Filick'r album : flickr.com/photos/43243778@N04/sets/72157636631334626/

It was not possible to screw directly the anamorphic lens on the Qioptiq prime lens because the front barrel is turning when you focusing. So I ordered a special machined flat step up ring to attach the two lens. I've unscrewed the ring on the Qioptiq that is maintening the glass, and replace with the special machined flat ring. Then I screwed on it the original small Berthiot clamp that can align the anamorphic lens. Then I put the baby Berthiot hypergonar in it. The combination suits perfectly ! The weight of this anamorphic combo is quite light. The Hypergonar weight is 57 grams, the clamp maybe 20 grams, the Qioptiq is 210 gram, then the two filters (diopter + variable ND) and step up rings maybe 150 grams. So the total is around only 400 grams ! And finally using the OM-D with it's 5 axis stabilization system with an anamorphic combo is very useful !

2nd Samyang 16mm F2.0, again with problems... What is going on? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8604/2nd-samyang-16mm-f2.0-again-with-problems...-what-is-going-on- Wed, 30 Oct 2013 14:16:21 +0000 Stab 8604@/talks/discussions Last week I bought the Samyang 16mm F2.0. According to the reviews it is an excellent lens and super sharp at f2.0 throughout the whole frame, except for the far edges. 1 review even says that only the 'last pixels in the corners' are soft at F2.0. Well, my lens was nothing like that. It its more like the last hundreds of pixels were soft. On top of that, the left side of the screen was much softer than the right side.

I sent it back to the shop and got a new copy today. Went out to do some tests and... Well, the difference between the left side and the right side is improved (not 100%), but its still extremely soft towards the corners of the frame on all sides. Not even that far out of the center... At f8 these problems are pretty much gone, and very much usable at f4 - 5.6, but that's not what I paid this money for... The reviews clearly said sharp at F2.0 throughout the frame.

Well, I might be stupid or crazy, so I want to ask your opinion. The front element of the lens is 'rounded' and that's exactly how the 'sharp plane' looks like in my test shots. Like there is a 'circle of sharpness' in the middle of the screen.

Note that I use the Panasonic GH3 with an adapter (have tried 2 adapters btw). The lens has a Nikon mount. This shouldn't affect this problem, right? Take a look af the softness on the right and especially left sides.

All pics are shot at large apertures (f2.0 - f2.2) except for the last one, which was stopped down to f5.6 to correct the problem to show the difference. Did i get a faulty lens twice? Are the reviews false? Does this lens not work with an adapter? Camera's fault? Or is it just 'normal'?

Hope to hear your opinion. Thank you so much.

Why do mFT lenses focus SO close?? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8596/why-do-mft-lenses-focus-so-close Tue, 29 Oct 2013 19:00:20 +0000 theconformist 8596@/talks/discussions Given the "crop factor" and the fact that you will get more bokeh the closer the subject is to the minimum focus distance, why wouldn't the minimum focus distance be farther away? So you can have a subject (say for an interview) at comfortable distance with a 25-50mm (50-100mm eq)? Is this just not possible for some reason? Or are the lenses intentionally made to focus so close, as many manufacturers tout how close you can focus.. We're not all filming flowers...

Samyang announces the introduction of series of full frame lenses with Sony E-mount.

Krakow, October 16th 2013 - Samyang informs about the release of a new series of Samyang lenses for Sony E mount.

Within two months Samyang lenses, appreciated by both of professionals and amateur photographers, will be also available with Sony E-mount. High quality optics, that makes Korean products famous across the world, will please not only DSLR cameras owners, but also users of Sony NEX and Alpha family.

Series will be available with the following focal lengths:

  • Samyang 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC
  • Samyang 24mm f/1.4 ED AS IF UMC
  • Samyang T-S 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC
  • Samyang 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC
  • Samyang 85mm f/1.4 AS IF UMC

All lenses guarantee high quality image with simultaneously high aperture. Use of lenses made of special optical glass along with aspherical elements allow to effectively eliminate optical defects, together with care of the highest performance.

Samyang Sony E-mount series will allow all Sony NEX owners to fully experience high quality optics without additional adapters. Giving the fact, that lenses are prepared for 35mm format, they will perfectly work with not only APS-C cameras, such as Sony NEX 7, but also with the newest Sony Alpha 7R and Sony Alpha 7.

At the moment Samyang provides VDSLR series with Sony NEX mount, which has been designed especially for videomaking purposes:

  • Samyang 14mm T3.1 ED AS IF UMC
  • Samyang 24mm T1.5 ED AS IF UMC
  • Samyang 35mm T1.5 AS IF UMC
  • Samyang 85mm T1.5 AS IF UMC

All constructions mentioned above are not only the highest class of optics providing best quality image, but also casing and mechanics built in a view to filmmakers requirements. They can easily be used with popular DSLR cameras having the function of recording, and they are also available for Sony E cameras. This creates a chance to use them with Sony NEX-VG900, NEX-VG30, NEX FS100E or older types without additional adapters.

Interesting new technique for improving sharpness of lenses https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8260/interesting-new-technique-for-improving-sharpness-of-lenses Fri, 27 Sep 2013 16:08:24 +0000 ahbleza 8260@/talks/discussions http://www.cs.ubc.ca/labs/imager/tr/2013/SimpleLensImaging/

From the article:

Modern imaging optics are highly complex systems consisting of up to two dozen individual optical elements. This complexity is required in order to compensate for the geometric and chromatic aberrations of a single lens, including geometric distortion, field curvature, wavelength-dependent blur, and color fringing. In this paper, we propose a set of computational photography techniques that remove these artifacts, and thus allow for post-capture correction of images captured through uncompensated, simple optics which are lighter and significantly less expensive. Specifically, we estimate per-channel, spatially-varying point spread functions, and perform non-blind deconvolution with a novel cross-channel term that is designed to specifically eliminate color fringing.

Which 14-140 zoom? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8345/which-14-140-zoom Sat, 05 Oct 2013 18:55:25 +0000 wordsofpeace 8345@/talks/discussions This is my first post here, so thanks for looking. I am looking to buy a GH3 with a kit lens, budget is tight and I want the 14-140 newer version. But all the dealers in the UK only have the older version lens. When I ask them why, I am told it's a much better lens for video. I will be using the GH3 for video work mainly. Everything I have read about the new lens is good, so am I being given a story or what?

what kind of "spot" is inside this lens? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8297/what-kind-of-spot-is-inside-this-lens- Tue, 01 Oct 2013 15:35:15 +0000 peaceonearth 8297@/talks/discussions I bought a variogon 18-90 on ebay in mint condition. It arrivided and I wouldnt bescribe it as mint but still in a quite good condition. I am worried as there is "something" inside. It's in the center, it looks round, with a sharp egde, reflective in the outer circle and kind of tarnished in the center. I have no experience in lenses with fungus but I would expect it look different. I contact seller and he replied: Nothing to worry about the spot. It's internal filter / aperture, that enhances sharpness and contrast. It's factory inserted by default. Did someone ever hear about this kind oft filter??

Picture from seller, I did not realize the spot but at the auction but it is there too.

Unfortunately I dont have a c-mount adapter yet for test. What do you think?

thanks for your time

Olympus and Panasonic Lens compatibility w/ Black Magic Pocket Camera https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8309/olympus-and-panasonic-lens-compatibility-w-black-magic-pocket-camera Thu, 03 Oct 2013 02:24:11 +0000 Donnie88 8309@/talks/discussions Hi guys, thinking about replacing my GH2 with a Black Magic Pocket Camera.

Was wondering if these two lenses are compatible with the Pocket Cam without any adaptors:

  • Olympus Zuiko 45mm f/1.8
  • Panasonic pancake 20mm f/1.7

Cheers
