Techart, the Chinese adapter manufacturer who has previously launched the first Contax G autofocus adapter for Sony E cameras, has unveiled the world’s first Autofocus adapter for Manual Lenses named ‘Techart PRO’. The Techart PRO adapter is able to drive the manual Leica M lenses to reach focus by using the focusing system in Sony A7II and Sony A7RII, giving an unprecedented new user experience for all Leica M lenses owners.

Techart PRO has adopted the z-shift technology where the Leica M bayonet is able to extend and retract. The distance between the lens and the camera sensor is hereby changed in order to reach the focus. The mechanism is quite similar to Contax AX system where the flange distance is changed for autofocusing. Techart PRO has electronic contacts to communicate with the Sony A7II and Sony A7RII and uses its PDAF system to measure focus. The built-in motor will then drive the bayonet forward by a maximum of 4.5mm and reach the focus point for shooting.

Techart PRO is super light and powerful. The adaptor weighs only 133g and is able to drive a lens system as heavy as 700g. Apart from pairing up with the Leica M lenses, users can also further adapt lenses with longer flange distance (e.g. Leica R, CY, PK, MD, etc) with add-on adapters and enjoy the autofocusing experience with other manual lenses. Techart PRO supports both AF-S and AF-C modes and it can also serve as a close focusing adapter which can reduce the minimal focusing distance of the lenses.

A complimentary mobile app will be available for users to save 10 sets of lens data to the adapter and perform firmware upgrade via bluetooth.

Techart PRO is an evolutional product which can give users a completely new experience with their manual lenses. The fast and precise focusing allows users to take quick and sharp photos with their favourite manual lenses. More product information and testing videos can now be found via our official website http://www.techartpro.com

Pricing and Availability

The Techart PRO Autofocus Leica M Adapter for Sony E cameras is currently available for pre-order at our official website (http://www.techartpro.com). The recommended retail price is USD 349/pc. Free shipping will be provided during the promotion period. Delivery will commence from March onwards and will be shipped from our US/UK/Hong Kong warehouse. 1-year warranty is included.

Adapting very old sigma canon lens to Sony a6500? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/17173/adapting-very-old-sigma-canon-lens-to-sony-a6500 Sat, 17 Jun 2017 11:31:47 +0000 fatpig 17173@/talks/discussions I recently snatched the Sigma High Speed Wide ASPHERICAL 28mm 1.8 for a very good price. It is made for old canon cameras from the analog age. Tried adapting it to my a6500 with the viltrox adapter. No electronic connection. Will now try a non-focal-reducing adapter by commlite. Are there any other speedbooster options out there except for metabones? maybe one with a built in aperture?

thanks guys!

Laowa Magic Format - adapt your FF lenses to medium format https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/17001/laowa-magic-format-adapt-your-ff-lenses-to-medium-format Wed, 24 May 2017 02:49:09 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 17001@/talks/discussions image

Venus Optics, the camera lenses manufacturer who had previously launched a number of unique Laowa camera lenses, is proud to announce the Laowa Magic Format Converter (MFC), the world’s first Fujifilm GFX adapter with optics for Canon/Nikon Full Frame lenses. The patented optics system inside the MFC will enlarge the image circle of any full frame lenses and fit it onto the relatively larger Fujifilm GFX- 50s camera sensors. It has a focal length multiplier of 1.4x and reduces the maximum aperture by 1-stop.

The Laowa Magic Format Converter (MFC) is different from the simple GFX adapter existing in the market. The GFX adapter currently available in the market simply adapts the Canon/Nikon lenses onto the Fujifilm G-mount body with no resizing on the image circle. However, due to the relatively smaller image circle of Canon/Nikon full frame lenses, most of the them are not able to completely fill the Fujifilm GFX sensors, resulting in a vignetting (Dark Corners) or heavily degraded peripheral sharpness in the images.

Our Magic Format Converter (MFC) took advantage of the short flange distance of mirrorless cameras and incorporated a patented optics system to expand the image circle of the lens without compromising the image quality. The enlarged image also corrects the vignetting and maintains the optical performance of your lens in the medium format system.

The Magic Format Converter (MFC) is particularly useful for ultra-wide angle lenses. Vignetting tends to be stronger when we adapt an ultra-wide angle full frame lenses onto the GFX sensors. By using the MFC, GFX users will be able to enjoy an ultra-wide angle of view without the need to crop away all unusable corners of the images. When the MFC is used with our Laowa 12mm f/2.8 Zero-D lens, it will become a roughly 17mm f/4 lens in GFX-50S. The angle of view will be around 116° (equivalent to appr. 13mm lens in 35mm format), making it one of the widest lens available for the GFX system. The MFC opens up a lot more ultra-wide angle lens options for the new Fujifilm GFX camera and increases the compatibility of full frame lenses to the Medium Format cameras.

Availability

The Laowa Magic Format Converter (MFC) will come with 2 variants, Canon EF to Fujifilm G & Nikon AI to Fujifilm G. They are expected to start shipping in July 2017. Pricing will be announced later. More sample images in RAW and JPEG format can be found in the dedicated page of our official website.

Looking how to adapt some older lenses to the GH4 https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16892/looking-how-to-adapt-some-older-lenses-to-the-gh4- Tue, 09 May 2017 22:08:29 +0000 ForrestGray 16892@/talks/discussions Hello!

I recently purchased a Helios 44-2 58mm lens as well as a Jupiter 12 35mm lens. I did a little research and purchased I believed to be the correct adapters to use the lenses on my Panasonic Lumix GH4. Sadly, I've grabbed a 'Keycay L39 to M4/3' and a Fotasy L39 to M4/3 neither which allowed me to focus the lens once secured to the camera.

Im also wondering what kind of adapter would allow me to use the Jupiter lens, as well.

Any input is appreciated!

2017 Variable ND discussion https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16685/2017-variable-nd-discussion Mon, 03 Apr 2017 22:02:38 +0000 webarchitect 16685@/talks/discussions Read through results for search "Variable ND" on this forum, and plenty of other Googling. New products and specific concerns prompt this thread.

Sensors seem to be a factor when considering variable ND, IRND, or stacking. For the purpose here I'm using a GH4 (GH5 will come soon) for video. Maybe that doesn't matter, maybe it does?

There's a fair amount of acknowledgment that variable NDs cause a loss of sharpness in telephoto lenses. I often use the 35-100 2.8 Panny at the long end and have observed as much using the Fotga variable ND. I'm looking for something better.

There appears to be a recent set of arrivals from China touting Schott glass that some find to be solid performers while others dismiss. This would be appealing if they are any good.

Pricing. I don't have an unlimited budget but am willing to spend money to solve problems (like sharpness and color cast). Spending 2x the money for 10% improvement is beyond what I'm willing to do, however.

Thanks to all who contribute here. I read a ton, comment little. I look forward to your thoughts and experiences on this topic.

I want to built a 4/3 to m4/3 speedbooster, to use my 4/3-lenses on my BMPCC and reduce the crop factor. The Metabones is the only one with electronic contacts, on all other adapters the glas element is to large to fit the contacts besides it.

BUT, as I don't know if that really works and I don't want to spend $600+ for an uncertain experiment (the adapter gets heavily modified/milled), I'm looking for a damaged adapter costing not much more than shipping.

Kipon Lens Turbo for Medium Format Lenses https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15468/kipon-lens-turbo-for-medium-format-lenses Thu, 04 Aug 2016 04:32:31 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 15468@/talks/discussions image

Kipon Baveyes introduces a series of three of the world's first lens adapters that bring the famous medium format Hasselblad V mount optics to Sony A7, Leica SL and Leica M 35mm full frame cameras, virtually eliminating any crop factor image loss and maintaining diagonal angle of view. Your favorite outstanding Carl Zeiss lenses, from wide angle to telephoto, ingeniously compress to a full-frame image, performing just like they were 35mm format full frame optics. The transformation results in a 0.7x factor to the original lens focal length with a gain of one stop in lens speed. Foremost in the advanced adapters, is the custom designed five element multicoated formula by German optics research institution IB/E OPTICS, with the ability to use full frame SLR lenses on crop sensor camera bodies and mirrorless cameras. The Baveyes tele-centric formula is exclusively designed by IB/E Optics in Germany to only the utmost precision and quality. Hasselblad lenses by Carl Zeiss are legendary for contrast, flare resistance, color saturation, bokeh and are in a class of their own compared to even the best 35mm format glass. And the Sony and Leica image sensors, in the heart of their robust camera bodies, give new life to the Hasselblad/Zeiss heritage.

4x4 ND filters: fixed set, or double polarizers as variable ND? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4806/4x4-nd-filters-fixed-set-or-double-polarizers-as-variable-nd Wed, 03 Oct 2012 23:58:34 +0000 Sangye 4806@/talks/discussions I dropped my 77mm L.C.W Fader Mark II variable ND filter last night, shattering it. Bummer, but I had been meaning to replace it anyway. Why? Well, mainly bokeh striation. What is bokeh striation? I'm not exactly sure, but this is what it looks like:
(note the "scratchiness" inside the COCs, particularly in the brightest OOF areas). I do know that this is caused by the L.C.W variable ND filter. I don't know if other higher quality variable NDs cause similar issues, but I know that it's unacceptable for my work.

So, I am looking at my options for neutral density, utilizing my recently-acquired Cinematics matte box. I have decided on Schneider optics as my brand, regardless of which type I buy.

The question I have is, does doubling up polarizers (one circular + one linear in the rotating tray, as a make-shift variable neutral density filter) cause any detriment to image quality, compared to a set of high quality ND filters? Specifically, will I risk bokeh striation as I did with the L.C.W Fader Mark II?

I really like the convenience of a variable ND filter. I can handle a slight loss of sharpness, or even a slightly (but only slightly) uneven distribution of ND filtering across the frame, but I cannot handle bokeh striation. It's so offensive to the eyes!
