Is there software for a particular kind of frame repair? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10261/is-there-software-for-a-particular-kind-of-frame-repair Sat, 26 Apr 2014 18:43:54 +0000 Brian_Siano 10261@/talks/discussions I'm editing a project where, in some of the footage, the cameraperson seems to have left their auto-focus on. As a result, there are occasional moments where the footage goes slightly out of focus for a few frames. (Also, there are single-frame gaps where the cameras' *.MTS files don't quite sync up.)

Basically speaking, I have a situation where I may want to insert frames that are generated from the surrounding frames. For example, if I have a one-frame gap between 00001.MTS and 00002.MTS, I'd like to generate that frame from the last frame of 00001 and the first frame of 00002. Or, perhaps I could find those moments when the camera goes out of focus, snip those frames out, and generate new replacement frames.

I'm sure there's software that does this that might be affordable. It may even be in After Effects, for all I know, and I'll go check that package out. But does anyone have any knowledge of such a thing?

help with slo-mo technique https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10132/help-with-slo-mo-technique- Thu, 10 Apr 2014 05:42:09 +0000 TheLoneRoger 10132@/talks/discussions I'm shooting a music video in which I want to use a subtle slo-mo effect. The artists will be miming to a sped-up version of the song @ around 0.8 time stretch. We'll be shooting under lights in a studio.

I've done some experiments using variable frame rate (32 fps) at 1080/25p on my AF101, but had problems with light flicker and/or motion blur. In a 50Hz country only 25 or 50 fps seem to work without any light flicker, and obviously neither is of any use.

So instead of using VFR, I've tried shooting in 1080/50p using a relatively high shutter speed (around 250th) and slowing it down down in post, using Optical Flow in FCPX, which looks OK, but there's still some jerkiness in the faster movements. I just can't seem to find the right balance between blur, jitter or light flicker - any suggestions?

Reading around I've seen conflicting info - some say always stick to the 180d rule, others say shoot with as high a shutter speed as possible if you're going to slow down in post (i.e. not shooting with VFR). I'm shooting the day after tomorrow, so any help much appreciated!

It would essentially take a 3d model from say - Maya, then animate the wings, then change the size depending on the Z-axis values.

I've found that I can export of the video as a series of transparent PNGs that can be imported into Motion and FCPx It cost me £69.95. I'm going to use it to combine 3D elements in Motion for titling and concept animation sequences.

Good Support from MotionVFX https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9314/good-support-from-motionvfx Fri, 10 Jan 2014 11:15:05 +0000 andyharris 9314@/talks/discussions I've bought three 'projects' from this company. For my last purchase I bought a theme in red and I needed it in blue to match the team colours.

I applied HS filters to the elements but found that transparency failed on embedded clips of flare - not in Motion but in FCPx. Furthermore, dropzones were working differently.

These projects are not very expensive so I didn't expect too much when I put a support email in. I was pleasantly surprised by the response.

First Clips in DropZones work differently in FCPx 10.1 - my bad I should have done a little more research (Now the position of the playhead at the point of application is used rather than the beginning of the selection) .

Transparency in Motion and the way that video is inherited into the dropzone in FCPx is quite complex where there is another transparent video clip in the project. The upshot is that if you apply a HS filter to a group of elements then the transparent clip in that element has the equal and opposite HS filter applied.

Jakub Jaroszek of MotionVFX send me a screenshot of his Motion project with all the elements expanded and an explanation of what to do where.

I thought this was worthy of a note on PV.

Is there a software or plugin to reposition, sync and link two panoramic movements? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8726/is-there-a-software-or-plugin-to-reposition-sync-and-link-two-panoramic-movements Sun, 10 Nov 2013 04:57:41 +0000 apefos 8726@/talks/discussions The camera is on tripod, so I shoot one pan from left to right exposed to the sky. And then I shoot a second pan from left to right exposed to the shadows. My goal is to combine these two pans in post to increase dynamic range. I do not have a motorized tripod head, and the pans will be made by my hand moving the tripod head... So, is there a software to adjust each frame position to match one pan with the other? Some kind of similar effect used to make titles moves togheter with the image movement... Any suggestion? Thanks.

Extended whip pans without camera op in video? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8698/extended-whip-pans-without-camera-op-in-video Thu, 07 Nov 2013 09:29:26 +0000 dracore 8698@/talks/discussions Does anyone know how to do long-duration whip pans without getting the camera operator in the shot? I've seen some videos (sorry, I don't remember where.. probably in some wedding vids and others) where the camera can seemingly spin around 360-degree on it's vertical axis and the camera op does not appear in the shot. I guess you could say that you can put the camera on a tripod and have the operator duck below the lens... but it was most likely filmed on a steadi/glidecam stabilization platform.... so no where for op to hide from lens :)

I've seen filters to simulate whip pans but it does not appear to be the same thing. Usually a whippan filter motion blurs the video horizontally as it transitions from one shot to another to simulate the whip pan effect. But this is not the effect I saw in the video.

From what I can remember, the video was original shot on a wide lens as I remember there was barrel distortion. As the camera was whip panning, there was definitely streaking and motion blur as the camera went around. The barrel distortion was still there during the whip pan so it was like as though no filter effect was used at all.

What do you call this effect and how do you do it? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8671/what-do-you-call-this-effect-and-how-do-you-do-it Tue, 05 Nov 2013 07:30:43 +0000 svart 8671@/talks/discussions

There is a behind the scenes:

Obviously they use multiple cameras and some kind of sequencing. I figure it's like the "bullet time" matrix stuff, but I need to know what exactly this is called so I can find the software or hardware I need to do this.

Essentially I have a client who wants this exact effect on part of a music video and I need to figure out how to make it happen.

  • Need to demonstrate examples of complex motion graphics work, including animated vector illustrations...
  • Although complex is required, it is only an entry level position.

I have basic skills in After Effects ( nulls, wiggler, write on etc ) and have played around with taking the vector paths from Illustrator extruding 3d shapes.

Wondering if anyone has any of their own work or examples they could point me to that contain current motion graphics techniques that would be considered necessary for 'high end fast turnaround productions for large corporate clients and on TV commercials'.

My background is in video so I was thinking of doing x5 5second videos that I can lay the graphics over. Each with a different theme and technique.

Any help would be great, tutorials, show reels, advice whatever!!

Thanks :)

Chroma key experiences, workflow, tips, etc https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5153/chroma-key-experiences-workflowtips-etc Fri, 09 Nov 2012 13:58:12 +0000 virgilr 5153@/talks/discussions So I've trawled and searched for GH2 user experiences for chroma key work here at PV, and it seems to be spattered and scattered around the boards. I have access to a GH2 that will be used on some upcoming projects, and I'm putting this here for anybody to share their best patch - workflow - tips in terms of pulling the best keys possible using the GH2.

Obviously lighting and setup are critical to pulling good keys, and I know that many may be tempted to say "try it and see"- which I'm definitely willing to do! I'm just trying to shortcut a bit to the best possible starting point I can before delving into the process on my own.

Any sample footage would also be greatly appreciated!
