ProRes intra codecs seem unnecessarily overweight at 4K resolution and will probably not be offered by Canon, Sony, Panasonic and JVC for internal acquisition (prosumer class). I'd be OK with a long-GOP HEVC codec seeing as how the new GPUs all seem to support hardware decode/encode capability.

Would 200 Mbps be a reasonable bit rate to expect for next-gen cameras like the GH5 if they support internal 10 bit? Any opinions on whether companies like Blackmagic or Atomos will eventually offer a recorder with HEVC option that's easier on storage media? Anyone currently working with10 bit HEVC delivery pipelines? Thanks.

It removes noise, banding and rough colors and the result is like 10bit video in 8bit screen. I use Potplayer but I think there is bedanding filter in other players too. I have one sample frame. Look the smooth gradients and still very sharp details. The effect is even better in playing video. The trick is to use that filter in player so that the re-compression is not removing dithering effect.

I had no story board as basis for a timeline just rough ideas of my clients so I had to review all the clips and started to work natively in PremierePro to create a story line. I am quite happy with Premiere and native mts files but there was some grading neccessary and I had to hand over the project to a colorist. It doesnt work with mts files.

I could have converted all files to QT ProRes before starting editing but it's needless to mention that the huge amount of data is hard to deal with and converting is time consuming too. How could I do it better next time?

XAVC-S vs MP4 Recording Formats https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14713/xavc-s-vs-mp4-recording-formats Sat, 05 Mar 2016 04:53:12 +0000 glenpinn 14713@/talks/discussions Hi everyone, i am in the market for a new 4k Video Camcorder, after dumping my FZ1000 last year as it just didn't suit my Run-n-Gun shooting style when mounted on my hand rig and my Flycam HD3000 stabilizer.

I have kind of short listed between the new Sony AX53 (1/2.5" sensor) and the AX100 (1" sensor) as it seems both Cams offer me everything i need for the type of shooting style.

That aside, both record 4k/25p and 1080/50p in the XAVC-S format @ 100Mbps, and my previous FZ1000 Bridge Camera recorded in MP4 @ 100Mbps, but back when i got the FZ1000 i had not really heard a lot about XAVC-S as i rushed into getting the FZ1000 because it was cheap.

so my question is, i have read some stuff about XAVC-S being a more efficient format than MP4, others just say that is not true, and i just can't seem to find anything definitive about how they both work, and if one is actually better than the other, for both 4k and 1080 modes.

My friend has a Panasonic VX870, and it shoot 4k/25p MP4 @ 72Mbps (it only averages 62 to 65 max so far) and the 4k seems to look ok, but i have seen some samples from an AX55 (ak AX53) and it just seems to look nicer for some reason XAVC-S at a higher bitrate maybe, better glass, better sensor, not sure)

If anyone can shed some light on XAVC-S vs MP4 i would appreciate some advice, or links to some useful information.

Cheers

I've converted my footage to 35mb XDCAM in vegas which works great but I lose quailty. Also I need help with my exporting to the web. I normally edit my footage nativity while its lagging like crazy then export out as Cineform.avi with 4:2:2 selected and Filmscan 1 then I convert it to H264 using mpegstreamclip but I lose a buttload of quailty. I've also tried virtualdub and converted to .avi x264 but doesnt work so well for me either neither does converting through Adobe's Media Encoder. I've also tried to export directly out of vegas as a .mp4 but even at two pass vbr 70-240mb. Like I know im supposed to lose some quality when uploading to the web but I tend to lose a whole lot! I see people that export at only like 10mbs and get much sharper footage than me! Also is there anyway to import a vegas project into after effects? I know FC7 or Avid can do it with automatic duck. Does vegas have anything like this or anyway to do this? But yeah I know im asking a lot but if anyone could help that would be great!

Once I have my raw footage into NLE (Adobe Premiere) whats it's the sequence order to apply the LUT?. I do the following procedure:

A) I put the footage in timeline. B) I apply a Filmconvert profile ( GH4 and Vlog) or Lumetri input tecnical LUT C) Then I open 'color' tab; I go to 'basic' tab and I do the necessary basic corrections, but I doesn't apply any input LUT. D) Finally, in Advanced tab, I make my 'creative' look and I apply a Output LUT.

It is correct this procedure? Thanks.

QUESTION - GH2 AVCHD Timecode Corruption on Import into FCPX https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5349/question-gh2-avchd-timecode-corruption-on-import-into-fcpx Sat, 01 Dec 2012 19:34:22 +0000 nyexcuse 5349@/talks/discussions So I have had this issue for a couple weeks now, and I don't know where else to turn.

I hacked my GH2 a few months ago and things have been pretty lovely so far. A couple weeks ago, however, as I was importing some AVCHD files from my SD card (64GB SanDisk Extreme) into Final Cut Pro X and some of them gave me this error upon import:

"Import Failed: The following clip encountered an error during import and is still referencing media on the camera: Clip Name: 2012-12-01 19:21:00 Event: X Original Name: Clip #X Volume: NO NAME"

After looking around, I noticed that the files that presented this issue had a strange timecode. Instead of displaying a normal start time of "00:00:00:00" they started with "23:27:41:06". Only some files are like this, and as far as I can tell it only happens to clips that used lenses that have been adapted to the camera (non-4/3 Panasonic lenses).. Other than that I don't know what's going on.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Cheers

What is the right ratio for anamorphic 4k gh4 footage? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13860/what-is-the-right-ratio-for-anamorphic-4k-gh4-footage Wed, 30 Sep 2015 13:07:30 +0000 tigerbengal2009 13860@/talks/discussions Hi sorry for this basic question but I am really confused about aspect ratios with the gh4, a friend of mine shot a video with his gh4 using an anamorphic attachment 1.75x, he was using 4k 3328x2496 in 4:3 anamorphic mode. with a regular camera that shot 16:9 I just multiply the width for the anamorphic number either 2x, 1.5 etc and the video looks fine, but gh4 4:3 mode I do not understand how to find the right ratio.

how to unsqueeze this on Premiere of FCPX?, I tried 1.78x 3328 but this is not the answer because of the 4:3, what is the logic/numbers to convert anamorphic 4:3 to proper ratio 2.39:1?

also he shot some pictures, I attached an example, which is the ratio to convert the picture to the correct size?

any help suggestions would be appreciated, thanks in advance

Looking for high dynamic range content for HDR experiments https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13746/looking-for-high-dynamic-range-content-for-hdr-experiments Sat, 19 Sep 2015 09:37:51 +0000 karl 13746@/talks/discussions Hi, I am looking for some sample video material which I could use to experiment with generating HDR videos compatible with contemporary TVs.

At http://www.demo-uhd3d.com/categorie.php?tag=hdr one can find only two commercial samples, that's all I could find anywhere.

I have been able to generate videos which my 4k OLED TV recognizes as "HDR" by using:

x265 --preset ultrafast --output-depth 10 --transfer smpte-st-2084 \ --master-display 'G(13200,34500)B(7500,3000)R(34000,16000)WP(15635,16450)L(10000000,1)' \ --max-cll '10000,400' input.y4m output.hevc

ffmpeg -i output.hevc -c copy final.mp4

When replaying "final.mp4", the TV switches into HDR mode, and the content is displayed with what appears to be very high contrast.

I haven't experimented much with the master-display and max-cll settings yet, but this wouldn't make much sense with the input videos that I currently have at hand, which simply are of "low dynamic range", and are only of 8bit per channel accuracy.

If you have some sample video material with a very high dynamic range (like shots of scenery with surfaces emitting 400 or more cd/m^2, like a mixed shot of dimly lit indoor stuff in one place and some brightly sunlit plants visible through a window outside), you could make me happy by making it available (in a format conveying at least 10 bits per color channel).

Actually, anyone with a Magic Lantern patched full frame camera (or an Arri Amira) at hand should easily be able to create such a sample shot.

I shoot with a hacked Panasonic GH2, mostly Flowmotion V2. My upload codecs are usually h264 .mp4 varying from 24fps to 50fps. Nothing too extreme. When rendered and exported everything is pretty much synced. But on Youtube they are off.

I work on a Macbook Pro Retina (late 2014) 2.2 Ghz Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM

Does anyone know why or how to fix this? Or is it just me and am I going crazy.

Longtime lurker here.

As part of my graduation project, I'm trying to develop a (web)tool which should make video encoding a lot easier and faster. It's actually a follow up to my previous research, in which a lot of (pro) participants stated that time is often a limit to quality. This tool should provide the best settings based on time and hardware, but it's possible to get settings without those parameters as well. After learning some basic PHP skills, I've completed the base code and I think I need to share it first, before I continue to develop the tool any further. Let me know what you think and most importantly: don't be gentle!

You can view the tool here: link and if you've got any spare time, please provide some feedback in this topic or at the form below the website.

I know there are some issues regarding 4K encoding advice (didn't properly implemented a VP9 algorithm yet), but please any feedback is welcome!

Thanks!
