I need some help by experts on this topic. I know that a lot of people think that CUDA works best because it was supported already a long time ago but my question is since Adobe supports OpenCL acceleration in newer version which is the way to go for editing. Open CL becomes more and more influencial and supported and AMD Cards generally are better in it (and how will future HBM memory bandwidth in R9 300 cards affect the game?)

Thank you!

Asking advice: laptop computer for Post-production https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/19887/asking-advice-laptop-computer-for-post-production Fri, 15 Jun 2018 09:41:05 +0000 RoadsidePicnic 19887@/talks/discussions Hi people, I'm needing to go mobile and considering buying a laptop. Already own a FX 6300 + R7 260x desktop, will be selling it after that.

I have a $1000 cap. I'm outside U.S. so, Dell would be better because of support here. Also need to buy on Amazon. So, find those two computers:

Dell G3 - 8th gen i7 six-cores, GTX 1050ti 4GB, two fan slim chassis; or Dell 7000 - 7th gen i7 quad-core, GTX 1060 6GB, better cooling and chassis.

Both have thunderbolt and have same price. Other things are identical or not relevant.

Application will be primary Adobe CC and Davinci, but plans use it to learn Nuke, Flame, Vegas and game development things (Godox, Unity, Unreal, Maya).

What do you think?

Read - large miners and corporations. Cards can be even not available for normal end users in retail stores, at least in any visible amount.
Proper way to interpret this - AMD want to maximize profits as cutting out end users allow to rise prices, plus it seems like 7nm tech problems are much more pronounced.

> precision has also changed, with modern Pascal GPUs focusing primarily on FP32 (short of going GP100). The 780 Ti and its GK110 GPU support FP64 on a 1:24 ratio (1x FP64 enabled core, effectively, for every 24x FP32 cores).

> 780 Ti GPU hosts 2880 CUDA cores with a reference Boost 2.0 clock of 928MHz. Modern datapath optimization, clock-gating, and compression tech (like advancements in color compression) mean modern architectures are vastly more efficient.

> GTX 780 Ti include a 7Gbps memory clock – a bit slower than most modern devices – with 3GB of GDDR5 memory. This is on a 384-bit memory interface. The TDP of the reference card is 250W, about 70W higher than today’s significantly more powerful GTX 1080.

as I see that even 4K monitors can be cheap and every year there is a load of new monitors I totally lost overview. Is there a 27" panel from say a couple of years ago that you would recommend so I can snatch it on ebay for peanuts? Dont need 4K, 1440p would be more than enough. Or has display tech come so far in the last 3 years that you would recommend buying new? I do have a 10bit color grading monitor. So color accuracy is no main spec requirement.

What 802.11ax WiFi brings? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/18956/what-802.11ax-wifi-brings Wed, 07 Feb 2018 11:47:41 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 18956@/talks/discussions

First generation 11ax chipsets will have:

  • 125KHz subcarrier spacing, so 256 subcarriers per 20MHz channel.
  • 13.6uS symbol time, with 0.8uS guard interval time.
  • 1024QAM modulation
  • 26, 52, 106, and 242 subcarrier Resource Units (RUs), which equates roughly to 2MHz, 4MHz, 8MHz, and 20MHz channels.
  • UL & DL OFDMA with Buffer Status Reports (BSRs)
  • Mandatory use of Low Density Parity Checking (LDPC)
  • MCS10 and MCS11 options
  • 4 new PHY frame formats for 11ax
  • Target Wake Time (TWT) for enhanced power save operation

This may cause some confusion at times because someone may ask the question, “what’s my data rate?” The answer depends on which RU you’re using during that 200, 357, or 421ms TxOP. In a nutshell, your 11ax data rate is changing constantly, both in the UL and DL directions, depending on what RU the AP assigns to your client.

11ax APs will not, in any way, help the performance or range of your legacy (11a/b/g/n/ac) clients. 11ax APs will not be more sensitive, and if they were, that would be a bad thing.

Today, we’re sharing initial details on a new product that does exactly that, reducing the usual silicon footprint to less than half that of standard discrete components on a motherboard. That’s more freedom for OEMs to be creative and deliver innovative thin and light designs with improved thermal dissipation. It also delivers space to add new features, create new board layouts, explore new cooling solutions or increase battery life.

The new product, which will be part of our 8th Gen Intel Core family, brings together our high-performing Intel Core H-series processor, second generation High Bandwidth Memory (HBM2) and a custom-to-Intel third-party discrete graphics chip from AMD’s Radeon Technologies Group* – all in a single processor package.

It’s a prime example of hardware and software innovations intersecting to create something amazing that fills a unique market gap. Helping to deliver on our vision for this new class of product, we worked with the team at AMD’s Radeon Technologies Group. In close collaboration, we designed a new semi-custom graphics chip, which means this is also a great example of how we can compete and work together, ultimately delivering innovation that is good for consumers.

If I find something super awesome floating out among the interwebs, I tend to keep them to myself until I've made sure I've had my fill. Having said that, I actually bit the bullet (since I already had 2 very solid ips panels, 1 decent ultrawide ips, and one super cheap ips panel), and bought myself the 25" B6000. If you can find the B7000 in stock somewhere, good for you. I'm always searching for stuff, so I always find all this random stuff on places like Gearbest, or Lightinthebox, or Banggood. Most of it is untested and have little to no reviews, but for certain things I'm willing to be the guinea pig. In the case of the HKC B6000, the sleekness and alleged specs seemed way too awesome for the price. enter image description here

After some painstaking Google Translate and tons of research, I managed to find some fantastic reviews of the monitor. They were all in a foreign language (which to me is pretty much anything that isn't English), but after translating the pages made me believe that this may actually be a fantastic purchase. Yes you can find 2k ips monitors for cheaper than this, but not sleeker. This is actually a giant chunk of metal. I've had the monitor for about 3 weeks now and my un-technical review is the following: I definitely plan on picking up a spydercolor elite or something to calibrate the monitor. That being said, according to the specs page and many reviews (which I'll post below this blurb), this is a 10bit monitor with 99% Adobe RGB. From what I've seen, the display is amazing and the color is fantastic, but at the same time since I haven't calibrated my monitors, I'm not sure which colors are off. Once I do that, I'll have a better review. In terms of bezel, this thing actually has picture-accurate thin bezel. I thought the bezel on the Viewsonic VX2370SMH was very good, but this is much thinner. As I mentioned before, this is one seamless piece of metal, so it is not a light monitor in any fashion. It also tends to run hotter than monitors in plastic housings, but I haven't run into any overheating issues yet and I don't think it's an issue. The menu does come in Chinese, I believe. No disrespect, I just don't know the differences between those languages and I don't mean to insult anyone with my ignorance on the topic. You can change the language to English. If I missed anything, please feel free to comment and I'll try to respond in a reasonable time. In the meantime, enjoy these reviews and images. Most of these contain detailed color analysis of the monitors. Again, none of these reviews are in English, so translate if necessary.
