How many axis for stabilizer? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9482/how-many-axis-for-stabilizer Wed, 29 Jan 2014 04:55:43 +0000 Sk0gr 9482@/talks/discussions Hi, since the E-M10 has 3 axis only, but otherwise looks ok, I wonder if 5-axis is needed or 3-axis is sufficient for video.

I never used one of these electronic gyroscopes that stabilize video cameras, as they are too expensive, but is it so that they often feature 3-axis stabilization?

I watched IMPRESSIVE footage from the E-M1 regarding stabilization, but it is too expensive when considering landscape dynamic range and ISO performance. So hence the question: what to expect regarding stabilization for video use in the E-M10?

Steadycam for Low Mode - Baby and Kid's Hunting https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3763/steadycam-for-low-mode-baby-and-kids-hunting Tue, 03 Jul 2012 07:28:45 +0000 tida 3763@/talks/discussions Please give some suggestions for other DIY ideas or commercial steadycams useful for low mode.

I mainly use my GH2 for kid's hunting. As soon as they start crawling it's not easy to keep track on them and I decided to build a DIY steadycam just for low mode applications. The design is very unusual but in my opinion one of the most convenient arrangements for a right handed person. Total weight is 2.7 kg. The gimbal is very simple but due to it's small size you feel the mass inertia between your fingers. In some of the pictures below you can see that the gimbal consists of one very small ball bearing as well as a small metal cardan joint. I use the 20mm with a x0.70 Sony converter which gives also a reasonable in-door light performance. Frame parts are based on holders for flower boxes.

Following footage should give an idea what can be expected:

For a gh3, what's a reasonable setup that will work? What's appropriate, movi-type or steady cam type of setup?

Thanks!

So any affordable solutions for remote pan/tilt head + remote focus/zoom for DSLR? DIY?? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7595/so-any-affordable-solutions-for-remote-pantilt-head-remote-focuszoom-for-dslr-diy Wed, 24 Jul 2013 19:38:53 +0000 Palanza87 7595@/talks/discussions I've been toying with the idea of being able to setup 3 DSLR's at my weddings and operate them all entirely remotely from a little booth setup. I've found this website, http://sennavideoequipment.com/webshop/ and for about 6k I can get a motorized head/focus/zoom. Unfortunately thats 18k for three. Would be awesome to do it for like, 2k a piece. Does anyone have some DIY links for building these? I built my own motorized slider before so I'm somewhat experienced and I bet its possible to build this sort of thing for WAY less than 6k.

Edit: Seems like http://www.servocity.com/html/mpt1100-ss_pan___tilt_system.html that system is a good start for pan/tilt. The remote focus/zoom control seems fairly simple to rig up as well. The problem is making it all wireless it would seem!

Short Review of the Varavon Slider (Lite 600) and Motorroid https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7758/short-review-of-the-varavon-slider-lite-600-and-motorroid- Mon, 12 Aug 2013 10:12:09 +0000 donniewagner 7758@/talks/discussions
For ~$500 I am very happy with the combo of the Lite 600 slider and Motorroid unit found here http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1029/catchit-deals-varavon-day#Item_1

My battery is giving me problems but I bought a cheap one off ebay so not at all the fault of Varavon. (if anyone has a suggestion for a decent and right priced battery let me know.)

One suggestion to Varavon is to have the Motorroid unit attach to the slider with more than one screw. If it were attached with two screws on each end, rather than one, I believe it would be more resistant to loosening. This wasn't a major issue, but was something I noticed.

Above is the first video I did with the slider and it added a ton of production value to the short film. I probably overused the slider because I was excited about adding that slow, steady, cinematic motion to my shots. Combined with a 90 degree plate I was able to get nice looking pseudo-jib shots (the camera moving vertically instead of horizontally) in the garage and over the stone wall. I'd also suggest getting a good ball head to go between the camera and the slider to quickly be able to level up any shot. Huge benefit. The best part of using the motorroid is its ability to slide the camera very slowly, and very steadily. When I use the slider without the Motorroid, I cannot move the camera as slowly and steadily, and the "high production value" look is lost.

Just my 2 cents.

And changes bottom weights so they can be adjusted to any position.

I am not sure that it'll be working good. And legs seem to have only one big weight.

It will be a 2 axis head on a linear slider with zoom and focus controls.

I have no plans to include 3D camera path export, due to the build level of the rig, but it should work for repeating the same move perfectly many times and for time lapses.
