Zacuto released an interesting camera accessory: the Coldshoe to NATO Cube. As its name suggests, this accessory attaches to any cold shoe mounting point and gives you a four-way NATO rail. So, let’s take a closer look at it! Chicago-based camera accessories manufacturer Zacuto is well-known for their Z-Finders and EVF, as well as their cages and rigging solutions. The company recently started making more smartphone-oriented products, such as the Smart Z-Finder for iPhones, which we discussed with Steve Weiss from Zacuto. This compact, lightweight audio boom attaches to your camera via a NATO rail. However, what if you’re shooting with a “naked” camera that has no cage/NATO rail? To install it, slide it in place, and tighten it via the 1/4″-20 top screw. That screw ensures that the cube won’t go anywhere. Indeed, coldshoe mounts are not the most rock-solid kind of mounting point, so extra tension is much welcomed.
