However, yesterday I have left my ND and I was forced to shoot with my GH1 using HIGH SHUTTER and WIDE Aperture (50mm 1.7/ 2.8) with sunlight -about 5 PM, Italy is a very sunny land;)..I was struck by the results: they were closer to the 60's aesthetic than my shots with ND filter...I was wandering if high shutter was employed in cinema in the 60's...or shutter HAS ALWAYS EVER BEEN 50?

How to setup Dell U2410 wide gamut monitor for color grading in CS6 and Resolve? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6793/how-to-setup-dell-u2410-wide-gamut-monitor-for-color-grading-in-cs6-and-resolve Wed, 24 Apr 2013 04:57:21 -0400 inqb8tr 6793@/talks/discussions As my main monitor I use Dell U2410 connected via DVI to a hackintosh OSX ML. Since Premiere CS6 is not color managed as far as I know, I usually switch to sRGB profile of the monitor to get normal color saturation. It is a simulation of sRGB color space, but it is somehow "mushy". If I leave it at AdobeRGB preset mode that I use for everything else, colors of the video are over saturated, like any other non managed srgb content on a wide gamut monitor.

I need some advice here, can I somehow adapt my workflow to stay in AdobeRGB profile of the Dell monitor, and to have an accurate representation of colors in my editing and grading software (resolve)?

I don't have an external grading monitor, nor I plan to get one anytime soon. I don't need absolute accuracy here, only some decent reference point.

For Sale: Tamron SP 17mm f3.5 Ultra wide angle lens, OM mount. http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4739/for-sale-tamron-sp-17mm-f3.5-ultra-wide-angle-lens-om-mount. Thu, 27 Sep 2012 15:55:28 -0400 rrsduncan 4739@/talks/discussions As sad as it is to say, I'm selling my lovely Tamron SP 17mm f3.5 lens.

It's an adaptall 2 lens so fits any camera you would care to think about and Tamron made an adaptor for but I'm selling it with and Olympus OM mount.

It's a brilliant ultrawide angle lens that is a solid chunk of metal. Tack sharp and difficult to get hold of these days. No hood but comes with caps all for £180.

In excellent condition with no scratches or fungus.

Importantly with for the GH2 it has quite remarkably low distortion for being 17mm so it works as a really nice 35mm lens.

Pics to follow.

Thanks for looking.

Old wide angle lenses (24mm, 28mm) on m43 ? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1664/old-wide-angle-lenses-24mm-28mm-on-m43- Wed, 07 Dec 2011 07:17:17 -0500 lenuisible 1664@/talks/discussions
I read that wider than 35mm RF (Leica) lenses doesn't perform well on m43 (for some optical reasons), does anyone have a wide reflex lens that works well ? I'm looking for a cheaper alternative to the Nokton for a friend, and was wondering if a canon fd 24mm 1.4 would be a good purchase for around 400€.]]>

7-14mm Panasonic or 9-18mm Olympus http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5238/7-14mm-panasonic-or-9-18mm-olympus- Mon, 19 Nov 2012 08:00:37 -0500 chocobanana 5238@/talks/discussions Hi there,

I'm really interested in a rectilinear Ultra Wide Angle lens for my GH2 but can't decide between these two. I intend to do video and long exposures with it in all conditions (including bright daylight), that's why I'm interested in the ability to fit filters. On the other hand, the idea of going for a wide angle lens is to get that massive perspective, I'm really fond of it for architectural shots.

These two lens seem to be those that offer the widest rectilinear perspectives for the M4/3. I'm not interested in a fish-eye because I would like to shoot 1080p/i without loosing quality after de-fishing. If you aren't already familiar with these two lenses, I would sum up the plus and cons that really matter to me like so:

Panasonic 7-14mm (+ widest reach) (- can't fit filters)

Olympus 9-18mm (+ can fit filters) (- doesn't go as wide)

Price, constant aperture, small quality differences don't really matter to me.

In summary, as far as it goes in terms of what matters to me, what one has the other doesn't. That's why it's so hard to choose for me. Yes, I already researched this comparison thoroughly but never saw it applied particularly to video. Perhaps someone here faced the same dillema and managed to make a decision or could provide a recommendation based on something I'm unable to see here.

Lumix 14mm + Wide Converter vs. Tokina 11-16mm Comparison http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5431/lumix-14mm-wide-converter-vs.-tokina-11-16mm-comparison Mon, 10 Dec 2012 01:10:35 -0500 mintcheerios 5431@/talks/discussions I got the Tokina 11-16mm (Mark I) because I wanted a wide lens I could use on both the GH3 and BMCC (if it ever comes out). I just sold the 14mm with converter on Craigslist and I thought I should do a quick test before the dude comes and picks it up. The converter is the official Panasonic DMW-GWC1 designed for the 14mm pancake.

I did three comparisons each with the lenses at f/2.8 and f/5.6. The uncropped shots are resized, but I only wanted to demonstrate the barrel distortion and vignetting with those. There are also 100% crops of each. All shots were done with the wide converter on the 14mm (sorry, forgot label it properly), and with the Tokina at it's widest setting. I used RAW on the GH2 for all shots.

As expected, the Panny combo had worse vignetting and barrel distortion than the Tokina. The GH2 corrects the distortion for the 14mm, but it can't do anything about the wide converter. At F/2.8, the Panny combo was clearly sharper than the Tokina which had some noticeable coma. At F/5.6, the sharpness is about even in the center, but the Tokina slightly beats out the Panny combo at the edges. You can also notice the purple fringing is pretty bad on the Tokina at the edge of that white book.

I purchased this last Fall and have used it with my GH2. Its a very good, affordable way to shoot at this focal length. The focus ring moves very smoothly and fluidly. This is a unique lens in that it has three built-in filters: Y2 (yellow), R60 (red) and 81B (warm). Of course, shooting with the lens on normal is an option too. The adapter fits solidly on the GH2 and had no wiggle room or "play" like other Fotodiox adapters I've used.

I'm asking $200 for everything plus shipping (from USA). PM me if you're interested. Thanks!

I've seen that they are very cheap, you can get it for 40$...I have in mind to attach one of this converter to my canon fd 28 f 2.8 in order to achieve a 25-mm-like FoV for my video (I use gh1 and gf1)...what about its performance (vivitar or other cheap wide converter in general)? A friend of mine has told me that 28 2.8 fd + vivitar wide converter 0.45x is pretty similar to the panny 14mm as lumonosity (but it's really less sharp)

Searches yield no results, other than I need a 58-77mm step up ring to do this without vignetting. I can't be alone in this issue! I am constantly battling flares and lighting artifacts whenever the sun hits it. This is my glidecam lens and its becoming very problematic to shoot with. For instance, my T2i glidecam setup had a 17-50mm and has zero issues with flares. Is this more than a hood issue, could it be a lens coating issue?

Panasonic 7-14mm F4 - about $1000
Very sharp, highly recommended lens. Not fast.

Panasonic 14mm F2.5 - about $350
Also not very fast for prime lens. Sharpness is average, corners are quite soft wide open.

Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 - about $700
Very highly regarded lens. Good compliment to longer 2.8 zoom.

Samyang 14mm F2.8 - about $400
Very sharp, quite large lens. Has quite complex distortion, unfortunately.

0.6x wide angle converter http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3275/0.6x-wide-angle-converter Sat, 19 May 2012 21:30:44 -0400 stonebat 3275@/talks/discussions I found a set of 14, 20, 30, 50mm lenses is good. See http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/comment/63058#Comment_63058

I have 14mm 2.5, 20mm 1.7, and Ai-s 50mm 1.4. Definitely not interested in Sigma 30mm 2.8.

@shian used 0.7x converter on his Ai-s 50mm 1.4 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/comment/61642#Comment_61642 Smart idea. Less # of lenses. Easier color grading.

I'm looking for 0.6x converter to turn Ai-s 50mm 1.4 into 30mm 1.7 if one third stop light loss.

Calvision has 3 different flavors for 0.6x converter. No idea which one will work if it works. http://www.cavision.com/optics/industrial/adapters.htm

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

A wide dilema (with added cashback for UK folks) http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2682/a-wide-dilema-with-added-cashback-for-uk-folks- Sun, 25 Mar 2012 06:16:05 -0400 matthere 2682@/talks/discussions I have had the 12mm 1.6 on order from fotokonijnenberg since mid January, thinking that it may arrive by April 3rd when I'm off to California for a bit of a road trip, now they tell me delivery is due mid April! So anyway I am looking for a wide lens, thought about the upcoming Panasonic wide adapter.. that is also now April release.. (you can see a theme here!) So the Olympus 12mm f2 has been on my radar for a while.. except for the price.. but when looking more closely Olympus has a deal on at the mo in the UK.. can get £185 cash back for the 12mm and also Amazon offers another £30 voucher with the 12mm f2 which means £390 / $620 aprox.

Now I really do like the look of the 12mm 1.6 (flare I could get used to) and I like the 12mm f2 apart from the fact that it is so very sharp.. I like the rendering of fd lenses through my experiments. I just wondered about other's experiences with either the 12mm (f2 or 1.6) or other alternative wide options? Has anyone tried the 12mm f2 with Sedna C or blackmist?

Interested in any wide thoughts :)

UK users maybe interested in the olympus cash back deals on lenses and cameras: http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/02/uk-electronics/shops/olympus/PEN_Lens_Accessory_Cashback_Mar12.V138174725.pdf

PS. The 45mm 1.8 is currently £260 with £70 back! - Not affiliated in any way.

UPDATE - On closer inspection the cashback for lenses is only if you've bought a camera... Back to the drawing board! Still interested in peoples thoughts on wide angle for the GH2 :)

Using a wide angle adapter with the 25mm Voigtlander? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2119/using-a-wide-angle-adapter-with-the-25mm-voigtlander Thu, 26 Jan 2012 20:05:34 -0500 alienmode 2119@/talks/discussions My budget for lenses isn't much more than $1200... I love the look of the Nokton along with the fact that it'll fare well in low light, but I want to get a decently fast wide lens as well. Is there any reason why I couldn't just plop a .45x adapter on the end of this lens and have myself a 50mm and 22.5mm equivalent in one lens...
