250,000 kilograms of ice and 250,000 kilograms of snow will be used to represent the fairytales of Little Red Riding Hood, Puss in Boots, Cinderella and Rumpelstiltskin, making it the single biggest ice sculpture festival in Europe.

This winter will see Zwolle’s city centre dominated by the Grimm brothers and their famous fairytales. Dozens of Dutch and international ice artists will be creating ice sculptures on the Rodetorenplein square, showing off their personal interpretation of the Grimm tales.

Lumix 14mm + Wide Converter vs. Tokina 11-16mm Comparison http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5431/lumix-14mm-wide-converter-vs.-tokina-11-16mm-comparison Mon, 10 Dec 2012 01:10:35 +0000 mintcheerios 5431@/talks/discussions I got the Tokina 11-16mm (Mark I) because I wanted a wide lens I could use on both the GH3 and BMCC (if it ever comes out). I just sold the 14mm with converter on Craigslist and I thought I should do a quick test before the dude comes and picks it up. The converter is the official Panasonic DMW-GWC1 designed for the 14mm pancake.

I did three comparisons each with the lenses at f/2.8 and f/5.6. The uncropped shots are resized, but I only wanted to demonstrate the barrel distortion and vignetting with those. There are also 100% crops of each. All shots were done with the wide converter on the 14mm (sorry, forgot label it properly), and with the Tokina at it's widest setting. I used RAW on the GH2 for all shots.

As expected, the Panny combo had worse vignetting and barrel distortion than the Tokina. The GH2 corrects the distortion for the 14mm, but it can't do anything about the wide converter. At F/2.8, the Panny combo was clearly sharper than the Tokina which had some noticeable coma. At F/5.6, the sharpness is about even in the center, but the Tokina slightly beats out the Panny combo at the edges. You can also notice the purple fringing is pretty bad on the Tokina at the edge of that white book.

Hesitations between two lenses to complete my kit http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4383/hesitations-between-two-lenses-to-complete-my-kit Mon, 27 Aug 2012 07:57:10 +0000 krotal 4383@/talks/discussions Hi guys, I know it will sound weird/stupid but I'm trying to decide which lens between Tokina 11-16 and Voigtlander 25 Nokton f.95 will better fit my needs and complete my kit... Theses two pieces of glass are totally different but both have pros that seduce me. I own a nikkor 35 f1.8 and nikkor 40 f2.8 macro. Here why I'm hesitating :

The tokina produces wide shots with a relatively fast aperture, but I'm not sure it will mix well with 35mm (transition between Tokina wide shots and nikkor "close-up" shots will be hard)

The Voigtlander's focal length fits better my actual kit, the super fast aperture gives a dreamy look that I love (I mostly shoot experimental stuffs, fictionnal shorts), this lens seems to be extremely polyvalent, some says it's a workhorse for the GH2. OTOH it's not that wide...

So I'd like to know if you guys think (considering my actual kit) it's better to go for a wide lens or for a more "versatile" lens like the voigtlander.

Thanks in advance

Shot in the Paimpont forest (said to be the Arthurian Brocéliande) and near Mont Saint-Michel. A timelapse at the golden hour before darkness.

Just for fun to play with my new wide lens. No special grading.

Locations: Paimpont forest, sometimes said to be the Arthurian Brocéliande, is in the French commune of Paimpont, near the city of Rennes in Brittany. As Brocéliande it had a reputation in the Medieval imagination as a place of magic and mystery. It is the setting of a number of adventures in Arthurian legend, notably Chrétien de Troyes's Yvain, the Knight of the Lion, and locals[citation needed] claim the tree in which the Lady of the Lake supposedly imprisoned Merlin can still be seen today.

Mont Saint-Michel (Saint Michael's Mount) is a rocky tidal island and a commune in Normandy, France. It is located approximately one kilometre (just over half a mile) off the country's north-western coast, at the mouth of the Couesnon River near Avranches. The population of the island is 41, as of 2006. The Mont-Saint-Michel and its bay are part of the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

So, some of the better look jobs with the GH2 generally come with this glass (Musgo for example).

I think Tokina wold come to the M4/3 bandwagon and manufacture this optical to work fully with our cameras.

As usual for Tokina AT-X this lens is build like a tank.
Not sharpnest wide open for photo, but for video it is pretty ok.
I have one for Pentax, and despite rarely using it do not intend to sell.

Lens seems to be in good state.
Seller also includes three 77mm Tiffen filters (including Tiffen UV and Tiffen CPL).

Price: $100 auction, $175 BIN (BIN for such lens with good filters is really low).

Other question is - why AT-X (reserved for top Tokina lenses) mark on ultrazoom? Are they nuts?

I'll provide you some answers :-)

First. It is best ultrazoom, considering build quality. Solid aluminium barrel. A bit large, but feels perfect on camera.
Second. This is parfocal ultrazoom, only one that I know of. It means that it maintains focus during zooming.
Do you want to focus pricisely in 24mm? Zoom all the way in, focus and zoom back :-)
This is main reason why it holds AT-X mark.

One of the downsides is very short focus throw and small focus ring.
One of pluses - normal and handy aperture ring.
