Short narrative in black/white and documentary about Eastern European author http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6773/short-narrative-in-blackwhite-and-documentary-about-eastern-european-author Mon, 22 Apr 2013 11:51:19 +0000 t_robson 6773@/talks/discussions Thought of sharing my first project as a writer/director with the fellow forum members here. It's a small personal film I shot December last year. I tried to use as little resources as possible and focus on the emotional side.

The second short came about when I first saw the author Ivan Dimitrov, during a literary reading called "The Homeless on Sunday" held at a hostel in Sofia, Bulgaria. He seemed to live on his own terms and I hope I made at least a bit interesting character-driven documentary.

If you have any questions I'll be glad to answer. Any feedback will be much appreciated as well.

Here is my latest work, a trailer for an Alternate Reality Game taking place in my hometown (Metz, France). This trailer was made to let the players feel the mood of the game. As a student, I did this during 3/4 months, on my spare time. I did the maximum tasks I could handle : storyboard, scouting, directing, camera, grade, cut, very limited "vfx", sound design (enjoyed a lot this part). I learned a lot during this project, and can't wait to start another one !

I hope you'll enjoy it ! Feel free to comment ;)

Thanks to @Vitaliy_Kiselev and @driftwood for their work !

PS : I don't have Plus Vimeo Account, I'll put a 1080p DL link soon !

Borrow/rent equipment for a short film in April (South England) http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6501/borrowrent-equipment-for-a-short-film-in-april-south-england Mon, 25 Mar 2013 21:35:47 +0000 glebnagorny 6501@/talks/discussions Hi all,

I am planning to make a short film in the beginning of April (about 3-5 filming days). My main locations are in Guildford, Surrey, UK. Basically I am looking for Panasonic GH2 equipment, so perhaps someone local would be interested to help with that.

Most importantly I am looking for fast Voigtlander lenses (17.5mm, 25mm) and SLR Magic (12mm). I only found 25mm. If there any other rental website with a bigger choice of lenses, please let me know. Also I am looking for a small power generator for outside filming, lighting (LEDs, spotlights), slider and a strong wind shield for a microphone (record exterior dialogue on the hill). If someone has GH3, that would be quite an interesting option as well!

Please PM me, if you can help with something. I can provide more information about the film if needed.

Best,

Gleb

These are the first shots from a longer short we're trying to put in some festivals. Thought I'd just post some stand-alone edits of quick scenes to see how it's playing to people. Not really much to it yet, but I just wanted to post up some bits as we go along. Thanks for watching!

I will record the final wide shot because I dont like the look, this last shot was with the Panix 14mm 2.5, I'll have to find an old wide lens or try some filter.

I put it in private because if the result is good would like to see if you are admitted to a festival and some do not allow work already exhibited.

These lenses are so sharp, crystal clear and well built with smooth focusing so for an almost giveaway price you should really consider looking into them. A must buy if you are on a budget.

This was made in 3 weeks including devising a storyline and pre-production. All comments are appreciated and I will answer any questions you have.

Thanks, Aaron.

This was our fun winter project, its in german (no subs), but one can get the meaning anyways I guess. ;-)

Technical details

Camera:

  • GH3 (unhacked since no hacks available itm)

Lenses:

  • 12mm 1.6 SLR Magic (should not have passed quality control at SLR Magic as you might see)
  • 25mm 0.95 Nokton
  • 35mm 1.4 Samyang
  • 40mm 1.8 Hexanon
  • 50mm 1.7 Pentax K
  • 85mm 1.4 Samyang (what a nice portrait lens for this money!)

Post:

  • Premiere
  • After Effects
  • bunch of plugins
  • bunch of people
  • a little time

Additonal Comments: The GH3 is a nice little cam and dids its job very well. I did not really recognize the difference in latitude, but had no direct comparision anyways. Moire did hit us once pretty hard. Until its hacked I prefer GH2 since 72 Mbit is just not enough for Intra.

Any kind of feedback is very welcome.

(edit: Markup preview and final view if completly different!)

But i like council for this.

In April or May I will codirecting and making of DP in a short i wrote with a friend. The story have some common elements with the novel 'The tunel' of Ernesto Sabato. Its a psychological drama, with elements of noir cinema, thriller, etc. its dark. My intentions aesthetic are closer to the tenebrism of the painter Caravaggio, films like The Godfather, Stay, Gattaca, etc. Palette with predominantly brown-ochre, black and some of red.

I have this gear in the Panix with TerraQuake: Two cards SanDisk Extreme 16 GB @ 30MB/S Class 10. Lenses FD: 50mm f1.8, 35mm f2, 28mm f2, 80-210 f3.8 & 135mm 2.8. M4/3 glases: Pancake 14mm f2.5 and kit 14-42. But i think need to acquire the pancake 20mm f1.7 have a soft look.

Silent Short Film - Assumptions Killed Her Love http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4729/silent-short-film-assumptions-killed-her-love Thu, 27 Sep 2012 06:06:22 +0000 jasonkkchan 4729@/talks/discussions This is my latest short film - silent genre - shot on an unhacked GH2. Though I love the hack - sometimes I hack it back for efficiency of workflow. Played the music on my MIDI keyboard and recorded directly into Garage Band - which worked flawlessly - a great simple scoring software. I didn't know there was a scoring project function in Garage Band - similar to how Soundtrack Pro used to work - with the movie playing whilst you score or record live. Lenses used - 14mm pancake, 40mm Konica 1.8, Pentax 25mm c-mount 1.4.

Anyway, it's a fun little short - please check it out and let me know what you think.

Support a Lovecraftian horror short I've co-written and DPing on 16mm! http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4692/support-a-lovecraftian-horror-short-ive-co-written-and-dping-on-16mm Mon, 24 Sep 2012 09:42:58 +0000 Gabel 4692@/talks/discussions Hello everybody!

I'm posting here to promote my short horror film, called Insane Madness. It's a short film, inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft and films like Evil Dead that I've helped co-write. The film plays with human mind, never knowing what's real and what's a dream. It's a period piece, set in the 80s, which we will shoot using time correct techniques in effects (all make up here) and visually. As such, the best way to do it is to shoot it on 16mm, especially as it's soon too late!

So my post here is to essentially spread the word, hoping both to get some donators (if you like the idea) and also hoping for people to share it, to spread the word. We've managed to raise $205 in the first 24 hours, plus we've got over 80 likes on our Facebook page in the same time (including Harold Skinner, gaffer for the majority of Fincher's movies). Short Film Projects Tech. http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4320/short-film-projects-tech.- Tue, 21 Aug 2012 11:01:29 +0000 samberg123 4320@/talks/discussions Please bare with me as i'm not too technically proficient...

I need some help...I want to shoot 3-4 Short Films with my newly purchased Panasonic GH2 and I am constantly amazed at the results that the hacks produced through this forum have reached.

I need a little guidance as to which patch is best for me and how I can apply the hacks to my camera?

I want as close to a standard Motion Picture look as I can get (without sounding patronising). I know a lot is in the colour grading but if I could be able to shoot raw footage that complements skin tones, looks perfectly clear and sharp and shoots at 24fps with a beautiful rendering close to any "Hollywood," standard footage for Short Film Drama use produces then i'd be an extremely happy filmmaker.

Continue the good work guys and gals it's all looking brilliant!

Viva the GH2 Revolution! :)

This film I shot late last year and my sole purpose of the film was to test the ability of the GH1 @ a low end patch, this was approx 50mbps. It went to a few festivals but I think that it should be notable enough that with an extremely low budget, a few hacks and limited equipment (cheap glass, no mechanical tools and strictly handheld) this still impresses me today. Only one issue, and it will forever be there.... shame. Let me know what you think. I shot this late last year during a 2 week break from film school, this year I plan to do big things with the GH2 and/or soon to be GH3.
