Essentially the Sony A65 is the same for image quality in video mode as the NEX 7 and A77. It has a superior sensor to the GH2 but doesn't do a very good job scaling and codec wise - so the GH2 resolves a cleaner looking image with more detail and less aliasing and moire.

However where I feel the A65 wins is...

- CHEAP!! £699 in the UK compared to £1300 for the A77, but same great OLED viewfinder, same sensor, same image processor, 95% of the same features but a plastic body
- Internal stabilisation - Your cheap £50 300mm Minolta becomes as good as an OIS Canon lens. Your £100 fast 50mm F1.8 gets stabilisation for free. Not bad!!
- Handling. I prefer the bigger body to the NEX 5N really
- 1080/50p and 25p in PAL land
- MF peaking, great EVF and 920k LCD

I am also going to be testing a Nikon J1 soon. I feel this is prime for a good hacking Sir @Vitaliy_Kiselev. The sensor may be on the small side but Expeed 3 does a great job of scaling the image... nice clean, sharp resolution and a pretty fast LSI considering the price point. Maybe if the firmware is not encrypted it could be your next conquest :) If you want a body say so and I will whip round for donations on EOSHD for a J1 body to be sent.]]>

GH1 vs GH2 vs GH3 Latitude Test http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6251/gh1-vs-gh2-vs-gh3-latitude-test Mon, 25 Feb 2013 12:20:36 +0000 mintcheerios 6251@/talks/discussions

I just got my GH3 today, and of course the first thing I had to do was this test. I threw the GH1 in there out of curiosity since I had one lying around. It looks like the GH series hasn't had much progress in the highlights, but the shadow detail has gotten much better. The GH1 and GH2 were hacked while the GH3 was using the stock 50mbps IPB setting. I chose this over the Intra because of reports that it held up better due to a more efficient compression algorithm (I don't know though since I've only had the camera for a day).

I used the cameras' spot meters on the big square gray patch (which is supposedly 18% gray), but I think the GH1 was a little hotter than the other two cameras when correctly exposed. Base ISO was used on all three cameras to achieve maximum DR. In post, I raised or lowered each image by one stop increments with Colorista II to compensate for the increased or lowered exposure levels. Hope someone finds this as useful as I have!

I believe know why Coppola chose the GH2 at Zacuto Revenge Shootout 2012 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5136/i-believe-know-why-coppola-chose-the-gh2-at-zacuto-revenge-shootout-2012 Wed, 07 Nov 2012 22:33:23 +0000 Manu4Vendetta 5136@/talks/discussions I watch some movies I subtracted master Coppola, including an excellent thriller 'The Conversation' of his early years. My first reaction just came out the first pictures is that it looks like when you combine the GH2 or GH1 with old lenses for its look and color, but the texture of the film different though but not as radical.

I think what Coppola to see shots of the GH2 was somewhat familiar with this movie great unknown but which he felt so proud. I'd love to ask him about it, but that is almost impossible.

Excuse me if this thread its trivial and offtopic, but wanted to share this impression.

And I recommend to all screenwriters and directors see this movie frugal, sometimes with limited resources and without a very complex story, but well told and surprising elements can do a good job in this case is a masterpiece.

Attached some pictures of it.

PS: Sorry for my poor English.

Part 3, Revenge of the Great Camera Shootout http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4257/part-3-revenge-of-the-great-camera-shootout Wed, 15 Aug 2012 20:09:06 +0000 karl 4257@/talks/discussions Now that you've probably seen part 3 - any comments?

To me it was the most interesting part (except for the boring interviews, of course), as it finally allowed to really see the technical camera differences. And still, the GH2 was IMHO pretty good for its low price point, especially in the "wall shot".

BTW: At 00h:27m:44s, "Nancy Schreiber" looks kind of ... unexpected. ;-)

Zacuto 'Revenge of Great Camera Shootout,' featuring GH2 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2835/zacuto-revenge-of-great-camera-shootout-featuring-gh2 Wed, 11 Apr 2012 11:45:34 +0000 Tron 2835@/talks/discussions Ran a quick topic search, but did not see this news as having already been posted -

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/zacuto-announces-release-of-revenge-of-great-camera-shootout-2012-04-10

The cameras involved are:

  1. Sony F65 -- Sony Representatives
  2. ARRI Alexa -- Rodney Charters, ASC
  3. RED Epic -- Ryan Walters
  4. Sony FS100 -- Den Lennie & Mick Jones
  5. Sony F3 w/slog -- Nancy Schreiber, ASC
  6. Canon C300 -- Polly Morgan
  7. Canon 7D with Technicolor settings -- Michael Negrin, ASC
  8. Panasonic GH2 (hacked and non-hacked) -- Jonny Zeller & Colt Seman

"'Revenge' is unlike any other camera test that I've ever been involved with," says Zacuto producer, Scott Lynch. "I believe that the tools available to us are all capable of creating great looking images, but only if you know how to use them. The big challenge for us was creating a test that would bring out the real world differences between these cameras. You can shoot charts which will give you scientific results, but that environment is not the real world. What we wanted to know was how cinematographers creatively solve the limitations of their camera. There are going to be some great discussions when this test gets released. People are going to be blown away."

They ahve some problems with independence claims (as it was paid comparison).

But watching spectrums and color accuracy is interesting.

Look at video at http://www.zacuto.com/the-great-camera-shootout-2011/episode-one

I, personally, do not like both selection, approach and procedure of this shootout.
But it is interesting to watch.]]>
