Tons of banding/blotchiness, general low resolution, etc (Even when playing in 1080 on YouTube). I was using H.264, 12 Mbps for Target Bit Rate, and 40 Mbps for Max Bit Rate, High Profile 5.1, and checking lower box for rendering at max quality. 3 minute video was 253 MB. I guess YouTube has changed their ways they compress/encode etc. Last year this export looked great...now it's horrible!

What's everybody using for their export settings these days for YouTube? (and Vimeo for those interested there too)

It's all about relation chips or layers and layers and layers http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15068/its-all-about-relation-chips-or-layers-and-layers-and-layers Tue, 10 May 2016 21:10:33 +0000 maxr 15068@/talks/discussions image

Hi there PV's folks and folkatrinas

What's this thread about?
Easy, preferable AUDIO-VISUAL content that's inspiring, deep (layered/rich in relations/emotionally/etc.), that triggers something, that connects to you, that helps to understand, to appreciate, that humbles, that provokes thunders onto your cones. Personally and as in language I'm also very interested in the possible relations within the image itself, with following images, in a group.

At the risk of maybe sounding snob - but on the other hand I'm already used to going solo and don't really give an oxter - I'ld much prefer if things posted here have a kind of personal "attitude" towards them and are not simply copy pasted from some rainbow making web bordello... nuthin wrong with those. That doesn't mean "intelligent" stuff, or intellectual... more like felt, lived, alive!! =)

I'm a huge fan of Bresson, not only he embodied stories with tremendous scope and never undermined the audience; on the contrary nurturing their capabilities of putting together a whole; but he used film language in a very clever, clear and rich way, also brilliant close ups. In the second part of this video there's some examples regarding his Pickpocket. BTW people producing essays should be more respectful of the film's original title or titles, as it is the case with A Man Scaped... the originals titles are Un condamné à mort s'est échappé ou Le vent souffle où il veut loosely translated as A Man Escaped or The wind blows where it wills =)

720p 60p GH2 hack: an attempt to improve the quality, stability and reliability. http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10650/720p-60p-gh2-hack-an-attempt-to-improve-the-quality-stability-and-reliability. Sat, 21 Jun 2014 17:03:43 +0000 apefos 10650@/talks/discussions I am trying to improve the quality of 720p 60p in GH2.

I did some research in the forum about PTools settings but I did not find the answers I need...

What happens is:

Only GOP which works good for 720p 60p are GOP 30 and GOP 3, all other GOP gives diagonal pattern (rain) in computer monitor. But the GOP 3 in 720p always stops recording and it seems the card is not the problem, I am using Sandisk 45mbps and other people says the Sandisk 95mbps also stops recording in 720p hacks... The GOP 6, 12 and 15 works for some shoots, but they are unstable (sometimes stops recording) and gives diagonal pattern (rain) in computer monitor. GOP 3 stops recording all the time, no matter the bitrate (I tested GOP 3 from 40 to 200mbps). So GOP 30 is the only option.

Problem is: when using the GOP 30 the camera encoder always keeps the bitrate very low when the camera is quiet, when there is no motion in the image, and this gives lots of macroblocking and texture lost in low light. Even when I set the bitrate to 48mbps or 64mbps in PTools the camera does not record 48mbps or 64mbps, StreamParser shows only around 23mbps... (for static low light shoots)

The auto quantizer all to motion or all to details did not make any difference. So I did some try to change settings in TESTER options of PTools. I fount the TOP and BOTTOM bitrate limits and I enabled it with 48000 and 42000 for top and bottom 720p, but this makes no effects in encoding, bitrate is still very low for static shots no matter the bitrate I type in PTools...

Only thing I found to make the bitrate encoding keep high is the GOP 3, but camera stops recording in all 720p shoots, the GOP 3 just works for 1080p.

So I am wondering if there is a way to keep the bitrate high using GOP 30 in 720p...

Any suggestion welcome, thanks.

Shotgun mics directly to the GH2 with the 448kbps hack. Choices and Advise http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10692/shotgun-mics-directly-to-the-gh2-with-the-448kbps-hack.-choices-and-advise Mon, 30 Jun 2014 04:35:08 +0000 hexagonal 10692@/talks/discussions Hi everyone,

I accidentally started a conversation on the Driftwood patches thread on audio straight into the GH2 with the 448kbps audio patch.

I am a documentary photographer and recently joined the PV forum after deciding that a GH2 is the tool to have for my work.

I had two queries regarding spanning and in-camera playback and they both have been answered in the Driftwood patch thread: 64GB SD Sandisk Extreme Pro 95mb/s is the only card that spans with Moon T7 reliably and the 448kbps audio patch will make any clip non playable in camera.

Now, to the reason of this thread.

My needs are to simplify the gear I carry with me. I used to work with Rode Videomics plugged to my 5DII and that was that. The audio from them wasn't great.

Now, with the 448kpbs hack, the GH2 can be a great audio recorder without the need for an external recorder like an Edirol or a Zoom.

The conversation as left in the Driftwood patch forum relates to these two tests I found for shotgun mics (most of which can be plugged straight to the GH2) which are outdoors and at two distances.

The distance from where I work and from where the mics would be to my subjects is in between those two tests, both indoors and outdoors.

So far, through my DT770 32ohm which is fed by a Dragonfly, the MKE600 is a bit bassy but very good and the AT897 and the MKH 416 perform similarly at a distance. Close up, the differences are far more obvious.

Also, there has been a suggestion of using an ISK CM 60 which is battery powered:

http://www.swamp.net.au/isk-cm-60-battery-powered-condensor-microphone.html

However, I am unable to find a sample from it. @oto02 said he is getting one and getting ready to test it.

Also, @Jim_Simon mentions that the GH2 can record really good audio so I have hopes that I can work out this rather simple rig for documentary work (TV, festivals)

Many thanks for all contributions in advance.

EDIT: I just heard the tests again with my Sony V6 and still, the AT and the 416 sound roughly similar on both. I am not sure if the MKE 600 equalized would be similar to the 416 raw or if one can up the bass a bit on the AT and make it sound less flat. Both, At and 416, sound crisp.

Chips and Scratches on Lens Glass & Its Real Effects on Image Quality http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9728/chips-and-scratches-on-lens-glass-its-real-effects-on-image-quality Thu, 27 Feb 2014 15:17:50 +0000 fosterchen 9728@/talks/discussions Everybody wants to keep their lens glass in top shape right?
But what is the real world effects of having scratches and chips in the glass? Does it really show up in the image or is it merely cosmetic? I'm sure there is some psychological reasoning to wanting to have immaculate glass all the time, and having such scratches and even chips would rub most of us the wrong way, hence wanting to sell and replace the lens altogether.

I just bought a really nice lens for a very good price due to the fact it has a few chips and scratches on the front glass.
However, the seller states it has no effect on the image quality.
So I received the lens (a Canon FD 85mm F1.2 L), and initial tests do not show any signs of the chips or scratches, which is a win for me.

Does focal range matter concerning if the chip or scratch will show up in the image? I'm sure for macro lenses it would affect, but telephoto lenses might be more forgiving.

Anyone's thoughts and experiences in using chipped or scratched lenses, please provide!

Shootout between Sony A65 vs GH2 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1789/shootout-between-sony-a65-vs-gh2 Mon, 19 Dec 2011 19:53:36 +0000 EOSHD 1789@/talks/discussions
Essentially the Sony A65 is the same for image quality in video mode as the NEX 7 and A77. It has a superior sensor to the GH2 but doesn't do a very good job scaling and codec wise - so the GH2 resolves a cleaner looking image with more detail and less aliasing and moire.

However where I feel the A65 wins is...

- CHEAP!! £699 in the UK compared to £1300 for the A77, but same great OLED viewfinder, same sensor, same image processor, 95% of the same features but a plastic body
- Internal stabilisation - Your cheap £50 300mm Minolta becomes as good as an OIS Canon lens. Your £100 fast 50mm F1.8 gets stabilisation for free. Not bad!!
- Handling. I prefer the bigger body to the NEX 5N really
- 1080/50p and 25p in PAL land
- MF peaking, great EVF and 920k LCD

I am also going to be testing a Nikon J1 soon. I feel this is prime for a good hacking Sir @Vitaliy_Kiselev. The sensor may be on the small side but Expeed 3 does a great job of scaling the image... nice clean, sharp resolution and a pretty fast LSI considering the price point. Maybe if the firmware is not encrypted it could be your next conquest :) If you want a body say so and I will whip round for donations on EOSHD for a J1 body to be sent.]]>
Enlarge a photos using screen capture http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6956/enlarge-a-photos-using-screen-capture Mon, 13 May 2013 20:59:37 +0000 tinbeo 6956@/talks/discussions I accidentally set pictures size in smallest size with lumix lx7. All pictures is now in small size : 2x3, resolution 70.

Did any one experienced about enlarge a photos using screen capture. What are the necessary steps. Using retina macbook pro, I previewed the photos, zoom in then using command+shift+4 to capture . Look like it do the trick, but I was not sure.

Your inputs would be appreciated.
