Get GH4 with Olympus 12-40 OR Panasonic 12-35? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10678/get-gh4-with-olympus-12-40-or-panasonic-12-35 Fri, 27 Jun 2014 23:26:00 +0000 Azo 10678@/talks/discussions I sold my Panny 14mm & 20mm primes as I really didn't care for those lenses. I really want to buy at least one decent native M/43 zoom lens. I would really appreciate some advice in regards to the pro's and con's of each lens on the GH4. So those of you that have the GH4 with either lens please chime in with your thoughts.

I am leaning towards the Olympus due to the build quality and manual focus mechanism but want to make sure I have all the facts first before purchasing this lens.

I have some questions for those that may have both lenses.

Olympus lens questions:

  1. When shooting stills and video on the GH4 with the Olympus 12-40 lens does the GH4 correct for distortion, chromatic aberration, etc.
  2. Is there a major difference in color rendition from the Olympus 12-40 compared to Panasonic lenses?
  3. How does the manual focus feel on the Olympus in comparison to the Panasonic?

Panasonic lens questions:

  1. When shooting video on the GH4 with the Panasonic 12-35 does the GH4 correct for distortion, chromatic aberration, etc.
  2. Is there a significant difference in focus speed in comparison to the Olympus 12-40?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Just picked up an Olympus LS100 for my GH1. http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9808/just-picked-up-an-olympus-ls100-for-my-gh1. Fri, 07 Mar 2014 14:19:21 +0000 MisterAO 9808@/talks/discussions I'd like to reduced my work flow to zero post. Can I plug my Olympus LS100 "Ear" to my GH1 "Mic" or will I get shit sound quality? Is that even recommended? Cannot try it right now because I do not have a 3.5mm-to-2.5mm adapter. But, generally speaking, is this a good idea or will I need to suck it up and record my audio externally with the LS100 and sync it in post? Please help a newbie.

Note: I bought the GH1 to record a baby shower coming up so it's gonna be in a big hall, dj, loud music and all that so I believe the mic will perform in these conditions. I will mount the LS100 onto a rig and do all the production myself. The GH1 is no hacked so I'm not sure if the AGC will affect anything. I don't even know if the GH1 has AGC. I looked into getting a JuicedLink but the LS100 was a complete steal so I'm going to try and stick to this setup as much as possible.

The LS100 has Left & Right XLR mic input with phantom power do if I need to upgrade to a better mic than the internal LS100 mic, I can, but again, I prefer not to.

I just want a simple rig, LS100 & GH1 and some wires to connect the two and get pro audio. Am open to other suggestions as far as attenuator cables and maybe a mic upgrade but this is going to be my primary rig.

Thanks in advance!

Apparently they aren't quite harmless as they can be pests to oaks and hardwoods. Who knew. I guess they eat the leaves and the tree can die. State parks here in Wisconsin have problems with them from time to time.

The Sphinx moth is just beautiful. It's about as big as a hummingbird and just as fluttery. I got 3 or 4 pics out of about 50 that were in focus. Not very common in this region. They emigrate south every year. They have a super long proboscis for nectar. It was very interested in the petunias.

The older one does not come with the silkypix cd or a neck strap. First one to order gets a free spare non oem battery, but the bat's only good for a half hour, then it goes from full to 1/3 full then it starts to flash red quick. The older one also has these markings on the back LCD cover. They look like scratches, but they don't feel like scratches. It's smooth. EDIT: also discolorations on the older manual are light food stains, sorry. >_< http://www.imagebam.com/image/c32da2269962521 Also the rubber eyecup has a little hole/tear: http://www.imagebam.com/image/55f96d269962536

GH2 : $550 http://www.imagebam.com/image/4db272269962608 The only problem is the LCD has three small dots on the lower right corner, they look like smudges, but when I tried to clean it off, they wouldn't come out. Only visible when dark, under normal use, can't see em. I only noticed them when I started looking the camera over to sell it. I tried to take a picture of them, but I couldn't get them to show.

Former Olympus CEO Michael Woodford has launched a scathing attack on the company, following his removal from his post. Olympus had said Woodford was removed from his post over a difference in strategic direction between him and the rest of the Board of Directors. In a frank interview with the Financial Times, Woodford calls this 'utter nonsense' and states his belief that his removal relates to an investigation he had commissioned, into unusual payments and his suggestion that the board's Chairman and Vice Chairman should stand down over the issue. In response to suggestions that Olympus may try to prosecute him for disclosing this information, Woodford says: 'Bring it on.'

I wondered if there was any chance to find a "hacked" firmware letting me set it that way, and wandering around stumbled couple of times in Vitaliy's name. :D I hope this is an "allowed" topic and, if the case, anybody could help me!

Thanks anyone and everyone! ;)

Olympus 75mm 1.8 manual focus grinding sound on GH3 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6366/olympus-75mm-1.8-manual-focus-grinding-sound-on-gh3 Sat, 09 Mar 2013 19:25:16 +0000 cinevoyeur 6366@/talks/discussions I just got this lens the other day and noticed that it makes a vey quiet, yet noticeable grinding sound when focusing manually. Is that normal? It also makes a noise when focusing automatically. I have the panasonic shotgun mic attached to the GH3 for audio recording and it definitely picks up the sound. Is my lens defective or is this normal for this lens? I don't notice it on my 17mm or 45mm, but haven't tested.

Would love some direction on this. You can hear it in this video at around the three second mark - small clicking sounds.
