I've made my own fake update server in python (oly_http.py) and captured the usb communication from update tool in virtualbox windows with wireshark (update.usb.dump, use filter: (scsi.sbc.opcode >= 0xc0 || scsi.spc.opcode >= 0xc0) && !(scsi.status == 0x00)). Protocol dissection is in proto.odt. Custom scsi commands are used, sg3_utils package can be used to send those. oly_scsi.py handles initial reads (serial no. and other info) and works ok. I didn't attempt yet to do the writes, since there are still some open questions.

Let me know if there is interest in more info.

This will be the first professional PEN with weather-sealing and professional body. New sensor design and revolutionary viewfinder are rumored as well. I hope it is a good rival for the Fuji, as I want to stay in the MFT system.

I wish Olympus would do a 20mm lens. http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16275/i-wish-olympus-would-do-a-20mm-lens.- Wed, 04 Jan 2017 21:01:13 +0000 suresure123 16275@/talks/discussions I love the 25mm 1.8 olympus, its compact, sharp, great bokeh, cheap etc but for video its just a little bit narrow for my tastes, doesn't really open up a scene when inside. On the other hand the Olympus 17mm is a little bit wide and distorts faces. I know I could get the Panasonic 20mm but its not cheap and it has a different look than Olympus, I prefer to use the same lens brand and have a consistent look between shots.

Anyone heard rumour of Olympus plugging this gap?

Firmware version 4.0 for the E-M1 will significantly transform the camera’s video-recording, macro photography and stealth shooting capabilities. Version 2.0 for the E-M5 Mark II introduces video specific enhancements for professional use.

The fourth iteration of the E-M1 camera firmware (v4.0) introduces an extensive number of new or improved features that significantly broaden its imaging capabilities. For video recording, 24 and 25P frame rates have been added to the camera’s existing Full HD video recording capability. The video stabilisation algorithm has been completely revised to deliver a much higher level of dynamic image stability in handheld operations. Two powerful new focus stacking and focus bracketing modes assist to improve depth of field for close-up imaging. A new silent electronic shutter mode provides stealth shooting operation in delicate wildlife, concert and stage photography environments. Other new feature highlights include 4K time-lapsed video recording, and a simulated optical viewfinder mode that uses high-dynamic range technology for a traditional SLR viewfinder experience.

The E-M5 Mark II’s firmware v2.0 introduces a new flat picture mode that helps to facilitate higher quality video colour grading during post-production. Linear PCM sound synchronisation with the Olympus LS-100 professional digital audio recorder (via USB) is a new feature. On-board video sound recording quality has been further improved with a new digital noise filter.

In line with the camera firmware updates for both cameras, firmware for all Olympus M.Zuiko PRO and Premium series lenses will be updated at the same time.

Olympus’ Capture software, used to enable tethered imaging with both the E-M1 and E-M5 Mark II cameras, will also receive feature updates and performance enhancements in its new version, 1.1. An important highlight is faster data transfer speeds between camera and host computer in studio usage. For still life and product photography, a new keystone compensation feature enables digital perspective correction directly within the application. The popular quickset Super Control Panel interface from the camera’s on-board menu will also be available from within the Capture software interface to improve camera control and usability.

The availability of the new firmware for the E-M1 (v4.0), E-M5 Mark II (v2.0), PRO and Premium lenses, as well as software v1.1 update for Olympus Capture app will be in November 2015. Exact availability dates will be subsequently announced.

    [big table of new features]

    Updates Highlights

Declicking Olympus OM Lens - how to remove ring? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13445/declicking-olympus-om-lens-how-to-remove-ring Thu, 23 Jul 2015 09:44:37 +0000 demonboy 13445@/talks/discussions Hi all,

My first post on this forum - recently it kept popping up whilst researching legacy lenses for m43 so I figured there may be a few experts in here who could help me out.

I'd like to declick my OM primes (28 and 50) and whilst the procedure looks straightforward enough I'm having a problem at the first hurdle: taking the ring off. I've tried using a mini flat-headed screwdriver and pushing into the engraved lettering; I've tried pushing down on alternate sides and then around the ring; I've even put on some rubber gloves to get some purchase, but it won't budge.

Does anyone have any other tips that may help?

    Now comes the BUT:
As you can see on the picture this thing is huuge. And heavy. I bought the original Olympus adapter, but still the lense has about 4 mm play at the front. (XY.. not Z ;)

As soon as you touch follow focus things become shaky. I already phoned Oly if there was some kind of clamp to fix it to the rig... but nothing. The cam is mounted in cage, but this lense is simply so long and heave that its to much for the mount i guess.

Any ideas who makes such clamp for a specific diameter? I don´t want to do DIY on this, it should match as bought.

    PS:
If you think this would suit better into an existing topic let me know.

360 degree recording & projection http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2601/360-degree-recording-projection Sat, 17 Mar 2012 10:23:55 +0000 driftwood 2601@/talks/discussions A few years back, the troubled Japanese company, Olympus, showed off a 360-degree HD camera and projector system - the first 360-degree, 1080i camera and projection solution.

Utilizing a proprietary system based around an "axisymmetric free-form-surface lens," the camera could shoot video at horizontal and vertical viewing angles of 360-and-50-degrees, respectively; the images could then be projected in the same range by a separate unit.

That was back in 2007 and nothing has ever materialised from them.

I am trying to help a company involved in the events sector to seek and find a current solution where they could offer a walk-in 360 arena (tent or whatever) and immersive world for an audience to view a dramatic show utilising 360 degree projected switchable backgrounds.

Does anyone know of where this technology is going (is it doomed?) or of any other viable solutions that could be made and put together using today's technology?

Olympus' tactic of playing down the optical performance of this lens need not be necessary. Even though this lens only costs £90 and is little more than a body cap with some glass in it, it is still capable of delivering decent quality images. Those who fancy experimenting with the fisheye look but don't relish the thought of forking out proper fisheye money, this lens is ideal.

Overall, this lens is fun to use, thanks to its compact size and fuss-free operation.
