Firstly, the latest and the better generation of fifties - Minolta MD. Not a Rokkor - it should be plain MD, aka Minolta New MD, Minolta MD III etc.

Secondary, 5 lenses detailed reviewed in this line:

Minolta MD 50mm F1.2

Minolta MD 50mm F1.4

Minolta MD 50mm F1.7

Minolta MD 50mm F2.0

Minolta MD 50mm F3.5 MACRO - still hasn't special review

Finally: All Minolta MD 50mm lenses comparison

And one more: Minolta MC 58mm F1.2 bokeh legend vs. underrated fresh blood Minolta MD 50mm F1.2

Is the MINOLTA MD 28mm f3.5 a bad lens? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12402/is-the-minolta-md-28mm-f3.5-a-bad-lens Tue, 17 Feb 2015 00:52:59 +0000 danny832 12402@/talks/discussions Hi everyone, recently bought a Panasonic GH2 for a great price and wanted to try out some vintage lenses with it for video. Was scrolling through eBay late the other night and purchased a hardly used Minolta MD 28mm f3.5 lens in excellent condition THINKING it was a f2.8!! (Will teach me to read things properly in future) ... anyway it only cost around £30 with postage and it should be here in a few days, but just wanted to find out a few opinions on this version because i couldn't find much information on it.

Ive done quite a bit of research on the f2.8 version and really like some of the images it produces on the GH2, will this f3.5 version be considerably bad compared?

The few posts I've found online have said its nowhere near as good as the f2.8 and on this lens survey site: http://www.photozone.de/active/survey/querylenstxt.jsp?filter=%22brand='Minolta%20MD'%22 it shows quite low ratings compared to the f2.8 model and mentions a 'slightly warm' colour balance.

Just wondering if anyone has had personal experience with this lens and if its worth selling it on and getting the 2.8 instead? (they are practically the same price on UK eBay for both versions) or just sticking with it?

I guess il just test it out myself when it arrives and find out... but would like to get a few opinions on this lens before it does, If anyone has any. I've had no experience with minolta lenses Id just seen the video samples people was getting from the same setup as id ordered and researched the 28mm f2.8 only.

Also as a last thing if it helps: The lens is the last MD version produced by Minolta (quite sure anyway, might be wrong!) and has no 'W.Rokkor' stamped on the front like a lot of them do, not sure if that makes a difference. Here are some images of the exact lens I've ordered: http://addieleman.smugmug.com/Lenses/Minolta/MD-28mm-135/i-K4nT78V

If anyone can share any info id be very grateful!

FEEDBACK ASKED: Working as a camerawoman and editor on music videos http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11911/feedback-asked-working-as-a-camerawoman-and-editor-on-music-videos Sat, 06 Dec 2014 17:40:12 +0000 dlzn 11911@/talks/discussions I'm currently working as a videographer for like 10 months right now. Mostly 'specialized' in doing guerrilla style music videos. My goal is to achieve the high budget look, with the low budget costs (don't we all).

Gear used on both videos:

  • Panasonic GH2 cam with flowmotion hack
  • Two Minolta MD lenses, 28mm F1.8 and 50mm F.17
  • Sigma 19mm F2.8
  • Mostly shot with: a rig, tripod, table slider and handheld

My goal is to eventually work more with commercial artists and especially to learn as much as possible about cinematography and cinematic aspects used in music videos.

Would love to receive some feedback on both videos!

Cheers,

Vintage Lenses Recommendation (Contax Yashica, Canon FD, Minolta MD / Rokkor) http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15280/vintage-lenses-recommendation-contax-yashica-canon-fd-minolta-md-rokkor Sat, 25 Jun 2016 11:52:51 +0000 VortekShow 15280@/talks/discussions Hello camera nerds,

I need your help. I want to build a lens set from affordable but superb vintage lenses for cinematography. These 3 brands would be adapted via an passive adapter onto my Samsung NX1.

Focal lengths I am generally interested in: 24 or 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm

I'll need some experts opinion on which brand to go for. I don't know wether to go for Contax Yashica, Canon FD or Minolta vintage lenses so hit me up with your knowledge and recommendation. It is much appreciated.

I am planning to buy my first (manual) analog camera and trying to decide which one to buy. I have done a little research and discovered these two. I have a propositions of

RICOH KR-10 + RICOH XR RIKENON 1:2 f=50mm L

or minolta X-300s Minolta 3.5 28mm

When it comes to X-300s Minolta I also have a possibility to choose one of those lenses: MD ROKKOR 45/2 or MD Tokina 28/2,8.

Which one would you recommend? I am just starting my adventure with the analog photography and I need a good and easy gear I can get to know really well and appreciate extensively during (especially ) this year and the years to come.

Thank you for your thoughts and opinions !!!!

Ask me for video samples. I last used it on a two cam corporate video shoot for a major Pharma company and for a broadcast commercial. Its been the B-Cam companion to my GH2 for the last 8 months but I am wanting a second GH2.

I am throwing in an assortment of vintage lenses along with their m4/3 lens adapters! The highly sought after Minolta MD Rokkor-X 24mm f2.8 AND the Minolta MD Rokkor - X 45mm F2 Konica Hexanon AR 28mm f3.5 Brand New in Box New Old Stock never used Kalimar 28mm f2.8! Konica Hexanon AR 50mm f1.4 Konica Hexanon 57mm f1.8 (needs work) Konica Zoom Hexanon 65-135mm f4 (needs cleaning).

I also have a spare Chinar 28mm f2.8 I'll throw in as well if you need more than one 28mm or need an extra 28mm prime for a second camera. This is a ton of glass all in very good shape. Im only asking for $350 for all of the above and not really interested in selling just one lens for 50 bucks. I really need to clean out my camera bag and raise some cash to get another GH2. Anyone have a GH2 and willing to trade for all the above...that would be nice too!

FS: Marantz PMD661 professional audio field recorder and 35mm Minolta MC Rokkor f1.8 lens http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10270/fs-marantz-pmd661-professional-audio-field-recorder-and-35mm-minolta-mc-rokkor-f1.8-lens Mon, 28 Apr 2014 12:09:03 +0000 Psyco 10270@/talks/discussions Hi everybody,

I have a Marantz PDM661 solid state audio field recoder and a 35mm Minolta MC W. Rokkor - HH f1.8 lens for sale.

1) Marantz PMD661:

The quality of the internal electronics is so high, that you don't need a preamp (see an input noise ranking of many field recorders here: http://www.audiotranskription.de/mikrofoneingangsrauschen , scroll down to about the middle of the page).

Its a 2 channel recorder with phantom powered XLR inputs. For more info try the internet (or ask me via PM). Its a very solid built (e.g. metal housing) and it is in "like new" condition.

Included is the recorder, DC adapter, 2GB SD card (not in the picture), shoulder strap, manual, software CD, original box.

Asking 400 EUR (or best offer) + shipping from Germany.

2) 35mm Minolta MC Rokkor f1.8:

This was one of the best lensen available at its time. Its fast and renders a beautyfull boke. Its sharp and gets rid of the "electronic look" on all digital cameras. It really shines when used for portrait and beauty shots. And because of its metall body and smooth mechanics, the lens has a very nice feel when used.

The lens has a Minolta standart mount and a 55mm filter thread. Its focal length is 35mm and the iris can be opend up to f1.8. Focus distance is marked in meters and feet and close focus limit is about 30cm/1.0ft. (angle of view: 64° , optics: 8 lenses in 6 groups)

The lens is in nearly mint conditions (see picture, can send more just PM me). The only flaw it has, is a painting scratch on the bajonet mount, which was caused by an adapter. This scratch has no influence on functionallity and can't be seen when the lens is mounted to a camera. All lenses are scratch and dust(!) free. The iris is free of oil, all mechanical parts are working smooth and precise and the iris ring snapps in firmly. At all time the lens was handled with great care and stored accordingly.

Included is the lens and front+rear caps.

Asking 250 EUR (or best offer) + shipping from Germany.

Last Day to Help GH2 User Win Song Contest! http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8606/last-day-to-help-gh2-user-win-song-contest Wed, 30 Oct 2013 15:36:57 +0000 thepalalias 8606@/talks/discussions UPDATE: The contest ends on November 8th, so please help by clicking the link, watching the music video and sharing it if you like it!

http://songwriter.revimage.com/channels/JoannaStClaire

If the music video wins for Joanna, it means a chance to work with Don Was (one of the most prolific and acclaimed producers out there) and money to help create additional music. She spent years on the album this video comes from and is an incredibly warm and talented person, so your help would be really appreciated by both of us.

Now here's some more text for everyone else about a project I worked on at various points from 2007 to last week. :)

Quick intro: I'm Per Lichtman, the guy that found the audio settings values now used in the majority of modern GH2 hacked settings, thanks to @Vitaliy_Kiselev making it possible to test and modify them. I've also participated in a lot settings comparison tests and talked way too much over the years. :)

Last year I directed a music video for a song I also worked heavily on the music side with. It was called "Listen to the Sound" by Joanna St. Claire and it finally got put up at http://songwriter.revimage.com/channels/JoannaStClaire in conjunction with a contest Joanna St. Claire recently entered. I wanted to help her out in the contest and share some of my experiences with the GH2 community at the same time.

The video is shot using a mixture of GH2 with the Driftwood Canis Majoris Night settings, as well as a RED Scarlet and Cooke lens courtesy of OnTheMarkMedia.net. There are also one or two shots with a Canon HV30.

The grading was done by Dimitrios Papagiannis ( @Bueller) in DaVinci Resolve using the Cineform codec as a digital intermediate. Ashley Nunn and Karla Usagi provided additional support carrying things as well as behind the scenes photography for one or two of the days. In other words, shooting often consisted of just me and the artist.

The shoot was done entirely using natural light, without reflectors or any other aids, on an extremely tight schedule and filmed almost entirely around sunset over the course of multiple days. The shots featuring water were done in a region where there is not normally a body of water: it was there for the first time in about a decade due to unusually high level of precipitation. The lake evaporated in a matter of weeks.

The lenses used on the GH2 were a Rokkor Minolta-mount 58mm f/1.4 and a Tokina 28mm Minolta-mount f/2.8. Various Tiffen contrast filters were used at certain point on the GH2. To the best of my memory, no filters were used on the Cooke lens for the Scarlet.

I will be posting more information (such as which shots are which) depending on what the interest level warrants.

The re-mastered album that the video goes with is "Stream HD Master", which we recently released in full-fidelity 96 KHz at 24-bit depth dynamic range. You can find it at https://joannastclaire.bandcamp.com/

It's been one of my favorite musical experiences so far. It also one of the ones were I've worn the most hats (recording engineer, mixing engineer, mastering engineer, creative consultant, album cover photographer, music video director, editor, etc.) that I can think of so far. :)

Festival Bumper filmed with the GH2 and Minolta Rokkor prime lenses. http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8076/festival-bumper-filmed-with-the-gh2-and-minolta-rokkor-prime-lenses. Thu, 12 Sep 2013 07:26:35 +0000 fredfred27 8076@/talks/discussions This is a 45 second bumper that I made for the Fantastic Fest 2013 Film Festival. It is a horror, sci-fi and other genre film festival put on by the Alamo Drafthouse here in Austin, Texas.

Below is the Vimeo upload with titles indicating the lenses that were used and in case you would like to download the original file for critical inspection. With this post comes a shameful plug for a contest, please go to http://frenzy4.badassdigest.com/entry/alamo-one/ and click the Facebook “like” button above the embedded video if you actually like the video. It is their voting system. Please help the GH2 cause.

It was filmed with a Panasonic GH2 using the Intravenous v2 – Cinema Smooth hack at 24p. (Thanks @Vitaliy_Kiselev @driftwood @cbrandin). I used the Standard Profile with -2,-2,-2,-2. I have been collecting a full set of Minolta Rokkor manual focus lenses (thanks @nomad @aljimenez ) for the last six months and finally got a chance to use them. Here are the lenses used in this bumper:

16/2.8 MC (2nd Gen) Fish-Eye Rokkor-OK

17/4 MD (1st Gen) W.Rokkor-X

24/2.8 MD (1st Gen) W.Rokkor-X

28/2 MC (3rd Gen) W.Rokkor-X

35/1.8 MC (3rd Gen) W.Rokkor-X

100/4 MC (3rd Gen) Macro Rokkor-X

All were used wide open (except for the 17/4 was at 5.6. I also used Optics Compensation with this lens). I used Adobe After Effects to work on each shot and edited in Premiere Pro. Neat Video’s Reduce Noise, an Unsharp Mask, the MBR Color Corrector and the Curves filter were used. I used the ColorGHear “Simply Cooler” preset for the final look (Thanks @shian). I added a BCC Film Grain filter in the end which helped hold down the banding on the flat grey surfaces when encoding to H.264 mp4. The 3D effects were created in Lightwave v11. I am a bit of a dilettante when it comes to these, but I feel OK with them. The flying rig was built in my backyard by stringing wire rope and pulleys in the trees. Not for the weak hearted! The set was made of wood and only the left 2/3rds was built. The right seat was filmed separately and flipped horizontally. In the case of the wide shots, the two sides were composited.

I have learned so much from this site and would like to reciprocate. If anyone has questions, feel free to ask.

And again, please go to http://frenzy4.badassdigest.com/entry/alamo-one/ and click the Facebook “like” button above the embedded video if you actually like the video. Share the link if you are feeling generous, I would appreciate the help!

Thanks, Maury Jacks (@fredfred27)

Music video for Argentinian synthpop band (with lyrics in English!) http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4868/music-video-for-argentinian-synthpop-band-with-lyrics-in-english Thu, 11 Oct 2012 15:56:12 +0000 charlie_orozco 4868@/talks/discussions Hi! This is the first material I share here. I shot it completely at 720p50 (I wanted 60p, but the band couldn't keep up, they had to play too fast!), with the GH2 of course. The hack was 88Mbps, but the 50p footage wasn't up to par, and ended up showing compression artifacts I had to get rid of.

This was the first work I made with the GH2, only 4 days after it arrived! It was crazy. I used the kit lens for the few wide angle shots there are (the 14-42mm), the 20mm f1.7 and a Minolta MD Rokkor-X 50mm f1.7, which I still have and love it (although I want to get a PG f1.4).

The video was shot in a single day, kind of in a hurry. I actually like narrative stuff, just didn't have the chance to do it here, but I'll be showing a couple more videos I made that actually tell a story later.

Please tell me what you think!

Selling 3 Lens Adapters for Micro Four Thrids http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1119/selling-3-lens-adapters-for-micro-four-thrids Thu, 06 Oct 2011 17:30:08 +0000 OSGondar 1119@/talks/discussions Kipon Minolta MD adapter 50$
Nikon - takes just about any Nikon lens + it has Aperture Control 25$

The kipon mounts get pretty expensive look them up at adorama or ebay i think i got the canon one on ebay for over 100 plus shipping but i'm flexible if my guess is too high. It would be perfect to sell all 3 to the same person for an easy ship. I know you can find cheaper stuff but these are quality! As a result try to be fair with your offers ? i'm open to best offer on them =)

All 3 - $150 shipped ?]]>
