I think the problem is about the camera beeing on ver. 1.2, is there any way to downgrade to 1.1 again or a hack for 1.2? Im really dont know what to do at this point, please help.

DJI Lidar support for Lumix GH5M2 and GH6 with DJI RS3 Pro gimbal http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/27927/dji-lidar-support-for-lumix-gh5m2-and-gh6-with-dji-rs3-pro-gimbal Tue, 24 Oct 2023 11:29:03 +0000 EspenB 27927@/talks/discussions Great. But not.

So.... RS3 Pro is $900 and the Lidar module is $600, a whopping total of $1500. I have a few DJI gimbals, RS2 and RS3 Mini, which both can't support the Lidar module, so this is a toss. Also the RS3 Pro is a heavy and large gimbal which supports up to 4.5 kg payload. Overkill for most GHx cases. So, I can get the PDAF focus G9M2 in a few weeks for a few 100's more and use on my RS3 Mini and get the added benefits of the latest sensor performance and processing. As well as the more light weight gimbal. It really doesn't add up for me personally. And hoping for a GH7 announcement soon in any case.

This Lidar stuff would have been super like 5 years ago.

Undoubtedly someone which owns both the GH6 and the DJI RS3 Pro would find this more exiting news I would guess.

Control your GH3 from a Web Browser - Now with video ! http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6703/control-your-gh3-from-a-web-browser-now-with-video- Mon, 15 Apr 2013 20:56:17 +0000 lenuisible 6703@/talks/discussions end users post, for technical info see post 3 below

v0.4 is out. a Java player has been added for live view ! most commands are there

To test this :

  • download the attached zip file (last version is v0.4) , and decompress it wherever you want
  • for the live view to work, you need :
  • start the Wifi on your GH3, "new connection/remote shooting" (it works also if you connect through a Wifi AP, you just need to find the IP address of the GH3)
    • if you're using a direct connection you can launch the "Control.html" file after you connected your PC/MAC to the GH3 network
    • if you're using a Wifi access point, you have to find/replace all the "192.168.0.1" in the "requests.html" file with the IP address of the GH3 before launching the "Control.html" file
  • if you want to use the live view on a Windows PC launch control.bat instead of control.html (see above for Java installation). If you're using a MAC, you have to find a way to launch UDPServer with Java, I don't know if it works
  • play with the different settings and commands

  • To take a picture, use the shooting button (you can do continuous shooting with press&hold if the dial is in that mode)

  • To start a recording press "record"

  • manual focusing uses press&hold buttons with 2 speeds, you can play with the interval between 2 successive focusing actions with the input fields on top of the 4 focus buttons.

  • The zoom uses press&hold buttons, with 2 speeds (for PZ lenses of course)

Some commands will not work depending on the selected mode on the dial (ie focal in S mode)

The screen goes black quite often, just take a picture or half press the shutter button to turn it on again. But now that live view works (on Windows at least), you shouldn't have to look at the GH3 LCD anymore.

If the GH3 freeze, you may have to take the battery out (may happend if you use a feature non supported by the selected mode on the dials)

To properly interrupt the connection, just "terminate" it on the GH3 menu

You can stop the video recording using "playmode" (which is the command to display the photo on Lumix Link).I didn't look at the files generated when you do that, if someone could look at the integrity of the video file after this abrupt stop, it would be useful. You have to press "recmode" to control the gh3 again.

Clarification :

This is a PoC. I'm not a developer, and won't spend much time on future version. someone with some basic web dev skills will be able to do a much better job in no time; He just has to look at the code, and eventually ask me.

The Panasonic "PDAF" rant http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/27459/the-panasonic-pdaf-rant Thu, 05 Jan 2023 19:26:00 +0000 EspenB 27459@/talks/discussions So finally Panasonic caved in and the long rumours about phase AF turned out to be true. As I recall there was strong rumours about the GH6 getting phase AF as well from several sources, one person living in Japan in particular. Which only partially was true. No PDAF for GH6 after basically SIX years of developement, but PDAF was indeed running in the dark corners of Panasonic skunk works.

Alas, the GH6 released without PDAF and I quite frankly refused to get another Death from Defocus top model. And upgraded from the GH4 to the GH5M2 - which was a rather nice upgrade for sure after being financially challenged for the Panasonic IBIS days. A feature which also was long overdue on the Panasonic feature sheet at the time BTW.

As a long standing Lumix G / GH user today is "the day after" the glorious and extravagant full frame PDAF five day press junket release initiated in Japan in early december. And being under wraps until CES 2023 besides the usual leaks - intentional or not - to bring up the hype. And a nice press junket it seem be with a couple of dozen influencers (also previous DFD naysayers like iphonedo) which seems to carry home a new S5M2 camera and 6-7 lens selection as swag. Some have claimed that hardware will be returned, I'm not sure that's true. Here in Norway it's a financial burden to receive so much free stuff as a influencer / youtuber as you have to pay income tax on the retail value. I'll leave the junket and possible free stuff. After all envy is one of the seven deadly sins.

As a long standing Lumix G user whit no current plan to switch to the 35 mm sensor size the S5M2 launch was of course all about Panasonic implementing PDAF in a camera. Personally I don't find Lumix S to be the prefered «full frame» system of choise if such a investement should be made. Or perhaps divestment from Lumix G. The Lumix S lens range is rather limited to standard zooms at different price points. As well as five «videocentric» primes for the DOF crowd. There are currently no serious tele lenses, specialities like fisheye or ultra wide angle lenses in the lens map. Alas I find that the S5M2 or the whole Lumix S system for that matter is is basically the FF system for the causual kit zoom shooter.

Things may improve in the future, but heck for my personal needs I have wanted the glorious Sony G-master 12-24 mm f2.8 ever since it was released. If going FF.

Alas back to the junket and CES release. There does not seem to be any wording released on future cameras with PDAF. Not even a basic roadmap saying that PDAF will be in all new cameras from now on. Might be self explanary, but heck is a rather interesting thing for the crowd which does not crave for Pansonics new budget friendly «slow sensor» influencer FF piece.

Only the «micro four nerds» influencer @emilymaylowrey seems to have given the issue the proper exposure, stating that Panasonic engineers present at the junket in Japan declined to comment on the issue.

I really hope Panasonic is able to get a new premium Lumix G camera with PDAF out ASAP. A GH6M2. In the next six months. Or maybe Panasonic wants us all over to the glorious Lumix S line. I'm not taking the bait. Please give us long standing Lumix G users the real stuff. Preferably at CP+.

Lumix G9 firmware reverse engineering http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/24266/lumix-g9-firmware-reverse-engineering Fri, 14 Aug 2020 08:31:54 +0000 jverbeek 24266@/talks/discussions Hey there, I recently got myself a Lumix G9 and was keen to look into the firmware. I'm hitting a roadblock, but maybe somebody can help me :)

The .bin firmware you can download from Panasonic (https://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/share2/eww/com/dsc/fts/zip/G9___V22.zip) has the "UPD " magic, followed by 8 bytes I couldn't associate, and then what seems like a product identifier "MC471" (MC = mirrorless camera?)

The interesting stuff starts at 0x2EC, where something which looks like a partition table starts. This section is 4884 bytes long (including some padding I believe) and contains 48 partitions which I managed to reverse engineer:

// 92 bytes - index entry of the partition listing struct partitionIndexEntry { char name[12]; // 12 bytes - name of the partition int offsetFile; // 4 bytes - offset in the firmware file int size; // 4 bytes - size of the partition int offsetMemory; // 4 bytes - offset in the memory on the camera int encryption; // 4 bytes - whether the partition is encrypted (0x3) or not (0x2) char checksum[32]; // 32 bytes - SHA-256 checksum of unencrypted partitions? char key[16]; // 16 bytes - encryption key?, if encryption == 0x3 char padding[16]; // 16 bytes - padding };

Reading that in in my custom C tool I've written for this logs out 48 partitions with their offset (in the firmware file, the real data starts at 0x1600) and size. I added automatic dd'ing so I now got 48 .bin files which are the extracted partitions out of the big firmware file. Adding all the sizes of the partitions together is also exactly the size of the original .bin minus the 0x1600/5120 bytes at the beginning which are the headers and partition table. You can download the extracted partition files here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1P4681aZkRlCUuaiL10nH_En1g70iRLKS/view

Now, they obviously seem to be encrypted, and I haven't been able to figure out how. As you can see I was thinking whether the 16 byte long key in the partition index might be a key, because it's filled with zeros if encryption is 0x2.

This is my progress, I greatly appreciate any hints!

I'm hoping there is a simple HTTP command that can be issued to return the last photo number. The ideal solution would return Folder and FileNumber after issuing HTTP:///cam.cgi?mode=camcmd&value=capture. I'm think a second command would return the desired value as an XML result from the camera.

Any direction where to find the answer would be greatly appreciated.

GH5 froze during recording, resulting in unreadable mdt file http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16854/gh5-froze-during-recording-resulting-in-unreadable-mdt-file Thu, 04 May 2017 12:30:06 +0000 SuperTinyMagnet 16854@/talks/discussions Hey folks! I need help repairing a video file. The other day during a professional shoot, my new GH5 froze up when I hit the record button to stop recording at the end of a 23-minute (!!!) interview take. Even after flipping the power-off switch, the camera stayed on and frozen. I had to remove the battery pack. Now I have an unreadable/unfinished .mdt file that can't be read or played back. Has anyone run into this before?

I'm also wondering how I can prevent this from happening again. I was shooting 4K 10-bit 23.976fps using a Lexar U3 150 mb/s SD card with 128GB of storage (I had used 122gb by the end of the take, and had a few gigs to spare.) I was also using a 3rd party battery by Newmowa, but it had plenty of charge remaining.

Thanks for reading! Any leads at all would be hugely appreciated.

GH5 photojournalism in PARIS "Revolution" http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/22081/gh5-photojournalism-in-paris-revolution Sun, 19 May 2019 09:39:14 +0000 eurocameraman 22081@/talks/discussions Since 6 months, demonstration against government and neo-liberalim politics are taking place allover France every Saturday, know as Yellow vest protest.

This means 27 weeks of street demonstration with, violence from both sides and repression is now out of limits with new laws allowing abusive arrests and violence with hundreds of severely wounded protesters. However, protesters are not willing to give up.

I personally followed 14th of those events in Paris, as photojournalist. I own a wide range of cameras such as Nikon D750, Nikon D5500, Sony A7M2 and GH5.

After different test and try, I decided to stick to the GH5 as I can easily switch from photos to videos. Also, having more depth of field at wide aperture is an advantage in this kind of environment.

I just wanted to share some of my shots, to show what M43 can do in a difficult working surrounding.

I am using Lumix lenses : 7-14 mm f/4, 12-35 mm f/2.8, 35-100 mm f/2.8, 100 - 300 mm f/4-5.6

Wishes for the GH6 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/17968/wishes-for-the-gh6 Thu, 12 Oct 2017 00:05:54 +0000 AKED 17968@/talks/discussions Everybody is working and talking about the 2.0 and now 2.1 firmware update for the GH5.

But for sure the Panasonic engeneers are alreday working on the GH6. For Panasonic claims and has prooven, that they listen to the customers, let us tell them early in the process of the development, what features we would like to see in the GH6, that can not be implemented in the GH5 through firmware update.

Let me start with a wish for a 2nd screen:

I think it is great to have the controls like waveform, histogram, sound etc. to have all the settings in sight, but as we all know, they take up a lot of space and cover up the video picture on the screen.

So my idea is, to have a second screen on the body where the screen normally rests. So that, when the normal, video screen, is flipped in, they face each other.

I would call it a "service screen", where you can have and see all the helping tools without covering the screen with the picture. All other settings like aputure, ss, ISO etc could also be shown and maybe one can also change the settings of the camera on that screeen. As you like. One should be able to assign, what you want to see on that screen.

I would make it a touch screen as well, so that the camera would have a double touch-screen, so the you can move things to the video screen if you need it, for example when you do overhead work and can not see the service screen but need the wave or sound controls. Once you are back in normal use, you can push them out of the way to the service screen again. If you do not need it, you could switch it off to save battery.

Nowadays, screens are so thin, that I doubt that it would make the camera bigger.

I think this would be a great help to have all the controls in sight, without them covering the main video screen.

Also, NO other Mirrorless or DSLR camera has that feature which would really give Panasonic another advantage over his competitors.

One could also think about transmitting the information of the service screen maybe via bluetooth to a mobile device, so one can have it in sight if a look on the camera is difficult or a 2nd person can have a look or even adjust the settings, while the camera man takes care of the framing.

What do you think about this? Would that make sense and help?

GH3 Loose Hot Shoe (pictures) http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7535/gh3-loose-hot-shoe-pictures Tue, 16 Jul 2013 14:43:02 +0000 djhessler 7535@/talks/discussions I know there is a topic on this already, but Vitally please leave a thread for this, it's very important. As everyone knows already, the hotshoe becomes loose on the GH3, the sad news is that the screws come completely off. This weekend on a trip to San Francisco my hot shoe became really loose I had 2 wireless transmitters on it, so this morning I decided to open my gh3, yes I know very stupid!!!!!!!! Do not do this!!!!! it's not easy to do this and parts can easy break. After opening the camera I discovered that taking out the viewfinder is not easy, one bolt is blocked by the board and taking out the board was a bit too much for me, so there is one particular bolt that stayed out, yes .... I did not put it back because it is too difficult to put it back in without pulling out the board, so back to the hot shoe, the hot shoe seems to be screwed by two bolts on each side, incredibly both bolts came off, and the sad news is that one is probably inside my camera moving around because I only found one :-( so what I did is that I used a bolt from the outside of the body and put back two bolts on the hot shoe, but another sad thing I discovered is that this part of the camera is really weak, I honestly cannot see that much metal around here so my advice to people is: Do not put anything too heavy on there. Another sad thing is that yes the bolts that hold the hotshoe do not have locktite so that is why they come off so easily, all these small screws are not tight too much because if tightened too much they give out. Honestly it's sad to see such expensive camera made so flimsy in the inside, I have 2 GH3 and I hope they last me a good time cause I paid premium for these cams. The first picture has a red circle around the area where both bolts came off.

When pulling out the back plate, I broke a part of the chasis, I think I was suppose to take out the dial and take a screw out from there, so be aware if you simply pull the back as I did, you will brake this part too. The camera is back together and working, I tested it and all seems to be ok even though I did break some parts :-(

So there you have it guys, these hot shoes will come loose eventually unless panny fixed the issued on a different batch, I bought mine in November of 2012.

See pictures bellow.

  • Changing basic parameters like ISO, Aperture, and Shutter. Changes on camera get reflected to app, as current mode auto parameters.
  • Multiple cameras can be connected at once, for now need switching to see and control, but I plan split-screen and separate windows. You can connect cameras to common WiFi access point.

I wish to test it with Hololens. Should be cool watching liveview in any position.
