GH2 Strange trails/ghosting

HI all,

Scary development: I've hacked my GH2 about two weeks ago, shot a bunch of stuff and was very happy with the results. Then yesterday out of nowhere I get really pronounced trails, or ghosting in my LCD, sort of like shooting on a slow shutter speed, but different in a way that's difficult to explain. But I can assure you I am not shooting slow shutter, I've done the test at many different shutter speeds. It's also strange that the effect is less pronounced in the viewfinder and even less so in the recorded image, although there is a jagged motion in recorded image. It doesn't look smooth or fluid.

This is of course very worrying so I went back to the official Panasonic firmware, and the problem persisted, so I reset the cam to all default factory setting, refreshed the pixels, cleaned the sensor, and still the problem persits! I would really appreciate help in diagnosing this problem, as I have really no idea what is causing or what to do! Has anyone heard or seen anything like this?

Help! I can't hack my 2nd GH2

I hacked my 1st GH2 few weeks ago; and we I decided to hack the 2nd it didn't work. I copied the GH2__V11.bin file into my SDcard, and when I turn on the camera and press the play button nothing happens besides the message the there are no files. did anyone had the same problem? and if YES how did you solve it? by the way the battery is genuine and fully charged.

Hack help - can no longer adjust f -stop

I am a complete newbie to the hack world, as can probably be gleamed from my question. However, I have attempted to hack my GH2 and though I had just about managed it but then when I went to adjust lens, (Panasonic 20mm) I could not longer adjust f-stop.

Am I missing something really simple? or forgotten something?

A question regarding ISO during recording

I'm aware that during the recording you cannot change the ISO value, you have to set it before pressing the record button. However what I don't understand is whether this is due to the ISO limit removal within the hack or if this is just how the camera was designed? If I removed the ISO limit removal from the hack would I be able to change the ISO during recording? Or is it completely not an option regardless of whether I have a hack on the camera or not?

Sorry if this has been asked before, I've searched the web and I see so many different answers which confuse me lol

idk if this topic is appropriate for this forum, because I haven't been on this site for long, but I was wondering, how come only Canon and Panasonic have hacks for their cameras? How come Nikon, Sony, etc doesn't have hacks? Is this due to a type programming limitation? It is because of the manufacturers? Is it hardware limitations?

GH2 Stalin Quantum V.5 vs. GH13 75Mbps

My brother got me a GH2 for the holidays (yeah, he's the best), and seeing as how I had been using a hacked GH1 since hacking was even possible, I figured a small comparison would be fun.

Not Scientific, but both pixel peeping screen grabs are shot using the fantastic Voigtlander 25mm f0.95. The GH2 was patched with Quantum v.5 ( @driftwood , @Vitaliy_Kiselev you guys are rock stars), and the GH13 was patched long ago with 75Mbps variant (one, I've always been happy with).

(EDIT) Both grabs are f4.0 shutter 1/50 ISO 400

My initial impressions were confirmed when I transcoded the MTS files using 5dtoRGB, and brought the files into FCP7 and brought up the mids using the 3-way color corrector - the hacked GH2 is hiding tons of detail, and the difference is in the numbers - gh2 is at 145Mbps, the GH13 is at 34Mbps. I honestly couldn't believe my eyes. The GH2 noise structure is so much finer than the blocking that occurs on the GH13, and it resembles film grain in my humble point of view.

GH2 Patch for slow motion

Hi

I hope to be getting a GH2 soon and I've seen great progress and amazing results from 1080p @ 24p. However, since I use a lot of 60p @ 720p for slow motion shots I was wondering if there are any good patches that will achieve the amazing results of 1080p for the 720p slow motion? Ideally I'd like a high bit rate which produces really nice sharp slow motion, the kind of sharp image you get from 1080p.

Therefore are there any good patches for 720p at 60p? If there isn't any patches could I possibly change the bitrate and GOP myself and still achieve better 720p than the stock firmware? I will be using a Sandisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s.

newb ptool no letter is turning green!

Working on a PC because it has a card reader...

Ptool3d, gh1_132 from panasonic, and setb from blackout all in one folder on my desktop.
I open ptool, load the 132 firmware and not one letter towards the bottom of ptool becomes green.

very frustrated, at a stand still, ready to donate when I get the hack working.

Hacked GH1 - AVCHD transcoding...wont go above 15mbps

Hey all, finally managed to get some tests done with my hacked gh1. I have played around with the 75mbps Peak Reliability patch ahd the 100mbps max lat patch. I have shot a range of subjects from grassing fields/trees/test patterns, and at a range of isos, apatures and shutterspeeds. However once I bring them into FCP 6 and transcode them...i end up with clips that will not go over 15mbps. Am I trancoding wrongly? or has the patch not worked properly? (I have yet to have my camera freeze up on me).

GH-2 PTool3.63d can be installed over v1.1

I'm posting this just in case someone out there is having problem installing PTool3.63d firmware on "newer" GH-2 bodies.
I just received my brand new GH-2 from Amazon yesterday. The body had original firmware v1.0; I tried to install the hack firmware several times but the camera never detect the hacked firmware on the SD card after "play" button was pushed (thus, did not give me the option to update).
I decided to install Panasonic's newest (12/7/11) firmware v1.1.
As expected, my GH-2 detects Panasonic v1.1 firmware immediately and updated successfully, first try.
After playing around with Pana v1.1 firmware for few minutes, I decided to go back and install the hacked firmware that I could not do before.
To my surprise, it worked! So now I have v1.0 (hacked) on my GH-2.

I just got a GH1 and wanted to know if there is a list of the most stable high quality patches? There's so much info, but I haven't seen where the patches are collected and listed with some kind of rating system for reliability and quality.

This is the continuation of Color Grading thread I posted, but I thought it was worth separating the two.

I shot this video at the end of July with a GH13 and a Red Mx. All of the body mounted shots that you see of the artist running around in were done with the GH13.

The concept of the video was inspired by graphic novels, and a bleeding of reality with dynamic illustrations. As a result I attempted to give the footage an HDR, almost drawn-in look. Enjoy!

I really have a hard time seeing the difference from the vimeo plus two pass 1080p encode and the 55mbit

Need to edit 720 X 576 movs on fcp without motion blur...

After hack - buttons acting strange

Well I finally hacked my own GH2 mix and installed it. Looking very nice at a 55high, 42avg, 35low setting for average stuff and a higher 75mbit top for very high detail. Working well with no stops or freezes so far on a new transcend class 10 32 gb card.

Odd thing is though, suddenly my white balance button and and iso button don't work and go to focus set up when I hit them, even though I have everything set to manual... I can change the other hard function buttons but I can't seem to get the white balance button to work as it should (go to white balnce menu) nor the iso hard button. I am having to use the touch screen which I don't care for.

Anyone on how I fix this?

50mm 1:1.2 Fujinon lens (AX Fujica mount) on Panny GH1... it's possible.

Warning:

1) Don't try it at home unless you know what you are doing.
2) The base for that hack is the Kiwi MFT <--> AX adapter. Except that it does not work, mine does (after the little modding).
3) This is REAL 1:1.2 lens, not the... Tomioka which is only NOMINALLY 1:1.2 (did you notice that the back of Tommy Miau Oka is manually cut?)
4) Did not try it yet against the wal texture, just did it today. Actually, my car mechanic did it.

GH1 stable 720p AVCHD settings

For any folks still using the GH1, I did a lot of testing to develop a set of stable patch settings for 720p AVCHD shooting. The existing patch settings, it seems, had zero testing in 720p or totally missed several key points.

I will simply outline my findings, so that you can create your own patch settings to suit your needs:

* Increasing the overall bitrate will decrease reliability while doing nothing to improve video quality or increase the recorded bit rate. Just leave it at the default 18 Mbps.
* SH and H modes are equivalent. Feel free to program them with different bit rates and switch between them.
* The GH1 codec accumulates errors over the length of the GOP. Thus you need to keep the GOP somewhat short, under 12 frames or so, to keep the errors from becoming visible. Shortening the GOP increases the recorded bit rate and decreases reliability. I settled on 10 frames.
* Using a GOP 10 frames long: no failures with the bit rate set below 27 Mbps; failures were produced with great difficulty at 27 Mbps; failures occurred infrequently at 30 Mbps, and easily at 33 Mbps. I settled on SH=27 and H=25.
* No differences in reliability were observed between a Transcend class-6 card, a SanDisk Extreme HD Video UHS 30 MB/sec card, and a SanDisk Extreme 30 MB/s Edition card. It would seem that the bottleneck is not the card, even though failures are shown with a card write failure message.
* Changing the overall bitrate 2 or video buffer size produced no change in reliability, recorded bit rate, or video quality.

On the GH1, 720p remains my favorite shooting mode due to this camera's lack of 30 fps in 1080p, and because there is much less jello effect in 720p.

iDynamic Range possible to hack?

Okay, so I've recently been very impressed with the "iDynamic" setting on the GH2, and the results it can achieve. It is a phenomenal feature to have, and is pretty unique out of all the video recording devices out there.

Do you reckon that it might be possible to change the threshold of the iDynamic setting, or perhaps enable some kind of manual settings (an "always on" thing would be sufficient in my book), to give the shooter more control, and stop it from requiring fair underexposure to activate it?

I've attached two pictures that REALLY show what iDynamic is capable of, and how many creative and technical opportunities it opens. Unfortunately, I wanted the interior to be brighter, but when I increased the exposure, iDynamic decided that it didn't have to do its job anymore, and turned off. :\

Shooting Olive Trees Documentary

Hi,

shortly I will start shooting my olive trees documentary, I was considering to use the some of the hack patches if is stable enough, so far I have been tried 720p50 patch at 38Mbps with B-frames, and it crashes every time, is there any patch that could handle that much details, for now I think I will go with standard built in 24p settings, but would like also to have some setting for the 720p50 settings with B-frames, or some low GOP 24p patch any advices?

Modify Panasonic FT3 Firmware?

Is there any chance this awesome tool could modify the firmware of the FT3 as well? I'm desperatly trying to get "manual" control over the camera - setting shutter/aperture/iso on my own ... or can anyone provide any hints on how to get started with such a project?
