It does great, but sometimes I miss more dynamic range and more DOF, so I'm considering moving to an APS system. I mainly use my camera for video, but also need a cam that takes good pics.

Do you thing the A6000 with the 16-50, 35 1.8 and sigma 60 2.8 would be an improvement over my actual equipment? I have no rigs so stabilised lenses are a plus for video. Ideally I'll get a EM5 (II) but the video seems kinda lacking.

On the other side, 4k is very appealing, since I can get better 1080 and crop to stabilise clips, so I'm considering the NX500. I could get the NX500 with the 16-50, the 30 f2 and maybe the 45 1.8. Would this be a better choice, considering overall image quality?

What are your thoughts on lowlight video with this cameras? Does the APS sensor a better job than m4/3? Also any of those other lenses are comparable to the PanaLeica? I like how it renders everything. Which leads me to maybe even consider the G7 and keep the lenses, only the 25mm and then get the 14-42 kit.

Maybe that option makes more sense unless there's a considerable difference with any of the other combos.

I would love to get 120fps (i know the nx500 does it at 720) but the NX1 or GH4 are out of my range. So I'm even considering the new RX100 iv, since the zoom range works great for me, would that be a step back? Specially DR and lowlight performing or the SLOG is an advantage?

Please let me know your thoughts and experiences so I can clear up my mind!

Cheers

Some inexpensive Waterproof Underwater Housing Case for GX7? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13503/some-inexpensive-waterproof-underwater-housing-case-for-gx7 Tue, 04 Aug 2015 10:40:27 +0000 Manu4Vendetta 13503@/talks/discussions It is a mystery that manufacturers such as Neewer and Meikon (for poor man) which are available are gear for GM1, GH4, GF's, Sony A6000, A7 and not for the GX7 being this camera of similar dimensions to A6000 and very popular. Or Im making a bad search. Nauticam is not for me, too expensive.

External Audio - Small camera, no mic input (GX7 / LX100)? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12138/external-audio-small-camera-no-mic-input-gx7-lx100 Fri, 09 Jan 2015 05:17:33 +0000 sgreszcz 12138@/talks/discussions I'm looking at ways to augment the sound capabilities of my GX7 and LX100 cameras for run-and-gun event shooting. Neither of them have microphone input jacks, and both have hotshoes. I'm trying to find a small solution, since these are small cameras, to use with my benro video monopod. I already own a Zoom H1 recorder, but I'm wondering if a small shotgun mic would be more appropriate for directional sound recording.

Some of the ideas I've looked at:

Rode videmic go (£60) -> Zoom H1 (own it) or something like the new Tascam DR-10c (£200).

Shure Lenshopper VP83F with built-in recorder (£300).

Any experiences with small external-audio setups would be appreciated. The first project I'm going to use this for will be trying to video an outdoor winter bobsled/skeleton event at the end of January.

Japanese GX7 import is ntsc? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12261/japanese-gx7-import-is-ntsc Wed, 28 Jan 2015 05:49:07 +0000 Matt 12261@/talks/discussions I have an option of buying a GX7 that's been imported from Japan (though apparently it's all in English). Does this mean that the camera is essentially NTSC, offering 30p and 60p recording, rather than just 25p and 50p of the EU version? Thanks.

Shooting Sports + Slow Motion (LX100 and GX7) http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12116/shooting-sports-slow-motion-lx100-and-gx7 Tue, 06 Jan 2015 10:24:09 +0000 sgreszcz 12116@/talks/discussions Hi there,

I'm going to take some video of my brother when he races in the World Cup of Skeleton (where they throw themselves headfirst down an ice chute at up to 140 km/h). I own a Panasonic LX100 and a newly-purchased GX7. I'm planning on using the LX100 for the wider shots and when I want to rely on the detail that the 4k brings. I plan on using the GX7 with my longer u4/3 lenses (like P35-100/2.8) and hope to be able to use the DTC functionality as well.

I have a few questions about techniques and settings needed to shoot fast moving sport, using 50fps (in the GX7), and potentially getting more slow-motion with something like Twixtor to interpolate frames.

Normally, I try to follow the 180 degree shutter rule for motion blur, and until now I've only had a camera that shoots 24/25/30 fps so I've kept the shutter speed fixed at 1/50 especially when indoors with 50Hz lighting.

I would like to try to record some of the bobsled and skeleton starts with the intent of slowing them down in post. The GX7 has 50 fps. If I record in 50 fps, should I be setting the shutter at 1/125 or should I be using something higher for sharper image capture, especially if I intend on using something like twixtor to make it look like even slower motion?

As far as shooting at 50 fps on the GX7 (28 Mbps), is there any loss in image quality compared to shooting at 25 fps (20 Mbps). Is there any reason why I shouldn't always shoot at 50 fps just in case I want to slow anything down in the future?

Thank you for advise!

SWAP : G6 for GX7 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10749/swap-g6-for-gx7 Tue, 08 Jul 2014 11:50:28 +0000 Sph1nxster 10749@/talks/discussions I don't suppose anyone in the UK would be interested in swapping me their GX7 for a G6

Bit of a long shot but I managed to swap a GH2 for the G6 in the first place through here so why not try eh?

Comes in original box, works perfectly and in great condition. Has been a solid little performer.

Reasons:-

  • GX7 cuts better with GH3 (A Cam for me)
  • GX7 is smaller (I work with two cameras on a belt system, and this will make this easier)
  • I don't need mic input on G6, or swivel screen
  • G6 has 4:3 viewfinder, which I do not need for video work. Therefore GX7 will give me larger image on eye

GX7 live video out http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11158/gx7-live-video-out Fri, 29 Aug 2014 23:51:57 +0000 nufan 11158@/talks/discussions Good Day

I'm new to this forum. Have already done some research but havent found the information so far. i'm owning the panasonic lumix gx7 and i'm pretty happy so far. but one big dissapointment is, that there is no live video output during filming. it is not working on hdmi nor on the av out. dissapointed that panasonic does not mentoin that on their product specifications... anyway i wanted to ask if someone here is working on a hack on this camera which would enable live video output. i think it is "only" a firmware related limitation...?

thanks

For video: GX7 vs A6000 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10848/for-video-gx7-vs-a6000 Sun, 20 Jul 2014 22:30:38 +0000 Manu4Vendetta 10848@/talks/discussions we all know that Sony is actually the best manufacturer of sensors and has done wonderful work with the A6000 which provides a number of options that make it almost unbeatable in its price range, only the inclusion of a clean HDMI video output makes it a serious camera.

On paper the specifications and level of A6000 seems better. However in my experience with the NEX-5N even consider Sony in color reproduction is some steps below respect to M4/3 (in FF is another story), the A6000 has greatly improved with colors, but I dont have seen a video that me is convincing in paragraph colorful as offering GX7, which seems a kind of mini GH4, si I do not understand that the manufacturer block the HDMI output when recording video.

If you were to stay with one camera between these two, with which you stay?

GX7 / GM1 - Best Video Settings http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10320/gx7-gm1-best-video-settings Tue, 06 May 2014 08:50:11 +0000 MarcioK 10320@/talks/discussions Since some people showed interest in the GX7's thread sbout opening a Best Video Settings new thread, there it is. And since (in theory) the GM1 have almost the same internals, maybe the settings could work for both - if we discover that it is not the case, a separate thread could be made.

Feel free to share the settings that you are using and the results - unfortunately I did not have enough time myself to make some research yet :)

GX7 Hack Question http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10483/gx7-hack-question Thu, 29 May 2014 05:25:57 +0000 Lammy 10483@/talks/discussions Trying to drum up interest here. It costs half as much as the GH4, and it uses the same sensor as the GH4, and the 1080p quality is near identical. Maybe even the same processors too.

We know the priority is on the GH3 hacks right now - and the GH4 and GX7 haven't been de-crypted yet.

Hopefully possible to dump the firmware and coding onto the GX7 in the not too distant future? It could potentially be an even cheaper 4K power house!

The GX7 firmware: http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/download/fts/dl/gx7.html

The GH4 firmware: [still waiting]

Another thing interesting is that the mp4 bitrate on 24/25/30p is low compared to the AVCHD (averages 20Mbps vs 28Mbps), but the codec implementation of the mp4 and AVCHD is identical at 50/60P using 28Mbps. Hacking the bitrate higher on the mp4 mode would be ideal too.

Anyway just wanted to put it out there that this little camera is damn amazing and is worth a shot, because it's pretty similar to the GH4 minus a few of the above features.

Thanks

Noob Wireless Flash Question http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9951/noob-wireless-flash-question Sun, 23 Mar 2014 19:32:24 +0000 ragnar 9951@/talks/discussions I own a GH2 and use the DMW-360 flash with it and was thinking of buying a GX7 and the new updated DMW-360L wireless flash to go with it. I was kinda hoping that wireless flash meant that the DMW-360L would fire when I just press the shutter button on the GX7 with nothing else needed. However, I think, if I'm understanding it right, that the pop-up flash on the GX7 needs to flash in order to trigger the wireless flash. Is that correct? I'm sorta hoping that it isn't as I'd like to have just the DMW-360L fire wirelessly and nothing else at all. Does the flash on the GX7 have to flash too? Is that how all wireless flash units work, where one triggers the other, or is there one that fires remotely with just a shutter press. Thanks.

Which of these combinations would be better in night photo? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9669/which-of-these-combinations-would-be-better-in-night-photo Wed, 19 Feb 2014 20:08:48 +0000 Manu4Vendetta 9669@/talks/discussions NEX (5N, 6, 7, A6000, A3000, A5000, etc) with the SEL 35mm f1.8 or Lumix GX7/GM1 with the PanaLeica 25mm f1.4

Although this forum is focused mostly in the video, my question is for still photography, but equally valid for the video. I love make street photo and usually I do night street photos with my NEX-5N accompanied by Sigma 30mm f2.8 and Zuiko 50mm f1.4 with ambient light and I doubt as the new sensor of Panasonic with the PanaLeica lens.

And I would think in this exercise, both cameras at ISO 1,600, 3,200 and 6,400 at the street in the night, both lens at full aperture, the PanaLeica is faster, but the Sony sensor is larger and has theoretically advantage. but the new sensor of Panasonic seems has cut the distance respect to the NEX.

Some of my shots.

Thanks!

G6 or GX7 or...? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9511/g6-or-gx7-or... Fri, 31 Jan 2014 15:48:12 +0000 Manu4Vendetta 9511@/talks/discussions Im planning buy another camera to midyear . But with a budget limit of U$700, with the marketing war I'm not crazy bringing a lot of money for in less than a year and have obsolete equipment.

Currently I have the GH2 with Sanity and a NEX-5N which use 95% for photo still.

The GH2 has a great performance in video, but the latest Lumix issues have improved considerably as the High ISO, less noise. I also interested in 60fps for slow motion; in the GH2 only available in 720p, the NEX let record 60fps in 1080 but the video from Sony isnt as good as Panasonic.

My major candidates are the G6 is a kind of GH2 improved and the glorious focus peaking is a success whether in stills or video. The GX7 having even higher quality (in the level of GH3), I love the design, still photo quality in the level of OMD and NEX . I could not use a monitor for its HDMI output while recording with G6 and GX7, but can via WIFI. Can the GH3 price drops something from here to there, but after having a NEX consider any camera must have focus peaking mandatorily.

Which of them advised me that they see pros and cons in each, or better invest in some good optics for GH2 as 45mm f1.8 as the Zuiko 25mm f1.4 or PanaLeica?

Thanks!
