Playback Menu Issue

I bought a used GH4 recently. I am having a peculiar issue with the camera. When i scroll down to the PLAYBACK option and then use the right ARROW key to enter the PLAYBACK menu's many options the screen goes black for a second (similar to the black screen delay which happens when we go from the MENU to the LIVE DISPLAY mode which is normal). Also if i go from the Live Display mode to the MENU by clicking the center button and if i had exit the MENU screen last from the PLAYBACK menu then again the slight delay black screen thing will happen if i toggle to the PLAYBACK menu's options. This does not happen when i scroll to the other Options in the menus like SETUP, MOTION PICTURE, CUSTOM etc. or if i enter MENU screen from Live Display mode in these options or Vice Versa. I also updated my firmware to 2.2 but it did not help. And NO, i am not accidentally placing my hand in front of the EVF of the camera which is causing the black out.

Is it some issue with the camera or is there some option in the menu that can fix this? Thanks

GH4 cinema 4K mode non-existent!

I bought a 6 month old used GH4 today. For some strange reason when i switch to the 24hz cinema mode, I get no Cinema 4K or any 4K option!! All i get is the Fulll HD 24fps mode. Also, the AVCHD and MP4 options are greyed out in this mode and i only get the MP4(Lpcm) and MOV modes to select from. I am using fast cards so that is not an issue. I am in Movie Mode. Also, its the same story in MOV (No 4K or C4K option). Does someone know what is happening here?

I am planning for an indie feature film on the GH4. Will be shooting on the flattest setting i can get at 24pfs, 4k. I have a budget of 400$ max and would like to go for the most advised monitor for the GH4. I only wish to have a accurate color,best resolution and good overall build quality monitor. I dont want any of the waveforms and other features on it. What would folks here suggest for the GH4 in such circumstances?

Hi everyone. I just launched a Kickstarter for short film I want to create based off of Johnny Jewel's (Chromatics) Symmetery. It's a full blown movie score that was originally going to be used in Drive. I'm not asking for much ($4,000). Everything will go toward location fees, wardrobe, makeup, etc. The unique part of this process is that I'm laying out the score FIRST. Then conceiving the story. Storyboarding. And finally shooting. Anyone else having trouble editing native GH4 C4K (.mov) in Final Cut Pro X (10.1.1). I have a Mac Pro Mid-2012 3.2x4, ATI5870, 16GB RAM, 7200RPM Drive and it stutters like hell Playing Back a 5 minute sequence with no effects... Even with Smoother Playback selected it just will not playback smooth even with nothing else open... I would love not to have fro transcode to ProRes if I don't have to...

GH4 RAW files Magenta/pink highlight recovery. LOSING MY MIND!

I am running into major problems with the GH4 RAW files in every single raw processing program I have tried. Every one is giving me Pink highlights no matter if they are over or under exposed. I am ready to rip out my hair after trying EVERYTHING.

Can someone please shed some light on what is going on because If I edit the photos using hte In-cam editor there are no pink highlights.

This Tuesday, I'm doing a shoot where the client requested that the final footage be in PAL format: 25fps, Quicktime, 1080i. Obviously, I'm in America, because this wouldn't be an issue otherwise. I have two questions for which advice would be appreciated.

Happily, thanks to Vitaly's hack, I can use my GH2 to shoot PAL natively. And since I'm thinking of buying a GH4, I rented one for the weekend, and will bring it along as a backup/second unit camera. Thing is, the GH4 can only shoot NTSC.

So I figure, I'll convert my GH2 footage to Quicktime fairly easily, but I'd like to know what the best Quicktime export settings would be for Premier Pro CC. That's question #1.

The GH4 footage will be converted to PAL 25fps Quicktime, so I'd like to know what framerate would offer me any advantages in the conversion. Would it be better to shoot 24fps, or would shooting at 60fps enable a cleaner conversion to 25fps?

(I won't be shooting 4K, though. I want to experiment with that, maybe tomorrow.)

I am a film maker and am planning to go for the Panasonic GH4 camera.

On my current setup, i tried to run some original footages from the GH4 camera and its not very smooth on the Adobe Premier Pro editing software Playback while editing (Tried setting it at FULL, 1/4, 1/8 but its laggy).

Do i need an additional 755M Graphics card (or any other cheaper, better third party alternative for it)? Or just a further upgrade of 8GB internal Memory ram would be good enough with the preexisting 2gb 755M in my Laptop for the purpose mentioned? If yes, whats the best Memory upgrade for my laptop (Third party model name of the RAM, cost etc.).

Hello!

I'm trying to find something that could translate to 14mm (in 35mm land) without overly fish-eyeing. It seems like a lot of people have shot in 4K and used "De-fishing" software to get it looking nice in 1080p.

Found a bunch of 7.5 lenses. As far as I can tell these are as wide as the format can go. But, there are so many. And the Rokinon and Bower look kind of the same. I also noticed Rokinon and Samyang label their last two as "cine".

Any opinions on these lenses?

Hello everyone.

I will potentially be shooting a 'documentary-style' like shoot for a client that wants his house to be documented over the period of one year. As of now it is still a building site and the house's outer structure is almost done. The client wants the show to be stylised in the style of 'Grand Designs'.

I currently have a Lumix GH4 with 14-35 F2.8 lens.

I also still have a Sony HDR-FX1E from past projects.

The client does not care about 4K option and would want the final product be in 1080 anyway.

Might be a silly question but what camera should I use from those two? I don't want to shoot 1080 on the GH4 and the 4K transcoding and editing in 1080 would be painful especially for a project this long (and the size of the footage and backups would be exponentially bigger)

There is also a budget for a possibility to buy a new camera just for this project - any recommendations?

Camera with good DR and high framerates for slowmo?

Hi, I need a camera that can match my BMPCC shots and can capture at 100fps+. As the shots are bathing in sunlight with deep shadows under a tree, I need a camera with a high dynamic range (on the level of the BMPCC). Oh, and I don't have a Hollywood budget ;-)

1) What cameras can do both, fast fps and high DR?

2) Is there someone with such a camera in the Weilheim/Munich (Germany) area willing to help me out with his camera, lenses and technical knowledge (1-2 afternoons, arround sunset)?

I think one possible camera would be the Sony FS-700, but its expensive and even renting it is not cheap (as I have no experience with it, I will need additional time to learn its setups). Any thoughts on that one?

The GH4 can do 96fps, which is just enough (and I could use my m4/3 lenses) - but what about its DR?

I am looking for a live-viewing solution when filming on my GH4. I need to find a solution where the GH4 picture is transferred to any HDMI device such as a Aputure vs-2 or desktop monitor. I need clients to watch as well as mount my aputure vs-2 on the remote controller of the ronin-m.

DJI itself seems to have some general solution which I have not yet testet. Any user experience?

Are there any other wireless system solutions?

I have a GH2 and will be getting a GH4 soon. I have the SLR Magic 12mm lens with me which is a 24mm equiv on the GH2 and will be 28mm on the GH4 in 4K mode. The samyang with the SB will be wider (14mm on the GH2 with SB & 16mm on the GH4 in 4K mode and will be a F2).

Which out of the 2 is the better lens? I have the option of selling the SLR Magic to a film maker i know and the Samyang costs roundabout the same as what i am selling the 12mm for.

Kindly advice.

P.S- I have been recommended to go for the Samyang compared to a Tokina 11-16mm (EF) as they said It's sharper and has better CA control. Views on this.

GH4 Wifi problems, I need help

Hi,

I have the GH4 since well over a year. I tested the Wifi function when I got it and it worked quite well compared to the GH3. Now I had to film some squences on a crane and it would have been nice to use it, but it did not work any more. There were no previous connetions that I had before in the camera any more and when I tried to reconnect, the Panasonic Image App (Iphone 6) did not recognize the QR code and the GH4 did not provide any information (SSID and Password) for manual connection. It does not even provide a device name.

Any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated.
