Maybe someone found a solution to invert 180 degree HDMI output signal when GH4 is on Ronin at inverted mode?

I have Ronin-M attached to tripod at inverted mode, and HDMI signal recording by ATOMOS SHOGUN is inverted. SHOGUN have "flip" button in Image Option but after that, image is correct but all controls go to invert :)

I'm selling my 2nd camera - Its the latest GH4R model which comes with V-LOG L, and unlimited recording preinstalled - helpful for us in the EU!!

The item comes in the original packaging with a battery, charger, AV cables and all manuals in the original box AS NEW. This camera was only used on one project as I needed two cameras, but I no longer need both so I'm selling this one. The camera was purchased in Nov 2015 so has 8 months left on its warranty.

I'm keeping my other GH4 for sure (I love it! and use it all the time), but no longer need two cameras.

I have a question about 4K photo mode.

For those who don't know, it enables to record 1:1; 4:3 and 3:2 image.

Here are the image sizes possible:

• 4K UHD 16/9
• 3840x2160
• 4K Anamorphique 4/3
• 3328x2496
• 4K Photo mode in mp4
• 1:1 2880x2880
• 3:2 3504x2336

With the combination of an anamorphic lens it allows in 1:1 for example, to shoot in 2x time anamorphic with a 16/9 ratio. (not exactly 16/9, maybe 17/9 or 18/9…)

It is awesome because you can have the benefit of shooting anamorphic without being restricted by the "cinemascope" format. This format is nice but may not be appropriate for all movies and anamorphic also has other great attribute :

• different bokeh.
• wider field of view.
• flares for those who like them.

So you'll tell me what's the problem ????

When you enter this 4K photo mode and want a live output via HDMI you need to have a 422 10bit output feed. This 422 10bit option disable the recording on SD card…

And as the output is via HDMI it can only output 4K…so all the various picture sized written above are downscaled to enter in a 4K size… For exemple the 2880x2880 become 2160x2160 in a 3840x2160 so you get a 4K UHD ratio with a square image on it, and so black recorded on left and right.

If you edit in 1080 HD, this 1:1 ratio recorded by 4K HDMIwith a 2x anamorphic, is used by 100% wide and 50% height… So that's not to bad but a little bit of deception as well.

I've tried this morning with a Atomos Shogun recorder I had a chance to use at a production company.

I really plan to test with a Odyssey 7q+ but I think it will be the same because all those equipment are made to work with standards and limited to 4K…

I don't understand why Panasonic made this limitation and in the same time gives us those possibilities (1:1, 3:2…)… They don't have a higher camera to be canibalized (like Canon with 5D and C300…) and they don't sell 4K portable recorders…

SO MY QUESTION IS : May GH4 be hacked ?

to allow 8bit HDMI output with 4K photo mode ?

or to allow recording 10bit 422 on SD ?

I understand the second option may be limited by hardware of the GH4 or by the speed of the SD cards.

The benefit would be 1- having the choice of the image ratio ! 2- having the ability to desqueeze image that I think is a necessity to have a good framing for the operator or other people of the staff/ client

Am I dreaming ? Maybe…but so sad to have the perfect tool for anamorphic and having to use it in a crazy/dangerous/not precise way !

And I don't believe the feature will be unlocked in GH5…

I didn't have much time to check out the gh4 so far, a lot of work hinders me, going too far into research for each little thing myself, that's why I hoped I could get a little support from you hear. Mostly I'll record video and sound on myself at the same time, not sure if I'll have an assistant from time to time. My idea until now is to record in 4k, maybe in 24fps should be alright I guess. The shooting will be for a 5 video monitor/large flat screen panels installation.

My equipment so far: GH4 with kit lens 12-35mm

• Voigtlander Nocton 17.5mm 0.95f with UV and ND filters
• Voigtlander Nocton 42.5mm 0.95f with UV and ND filters
• One SD card SanDisk Extreme Pro 32GB 280 MB/s (I'll have another one like that)
• only one battery so far
• trolley case

I'll definitely need a second battery or the battery grip, is it a good thing to have?

• Sound Recording device
• Microphone (one or two? maybe too much to handle!)

• Wind jammer (boom?)

• Any experiences with 'Rycote Zoom H5 Audio Kit' or 'Tascam DR-60DmkII 4-Channel Portable Recorder with Rode NTG2 Condenser Shotgun Mic Kit'?

• Tripod mainly to use as proper stand in any condition, not sure if I'll need a very heavy one for doing pans?

• Rig / steady cam? I actually would prefer shooting with a rig/steady cam to make pans with a heavy tripod. Follow focus! Which one?

• A super-portable extra light like dedo light!

• SSD discs for backups?

• A Mattebox?

And everything should be of proper quality, lightweight one-person-solutions, possible to get through the airports O.K..

Very happy with this film produced for an oil company to commemorate over 35 years of production in the North Sea, and to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.

Filmed with only a GH4 with speedboosted 24-105 lens and a gopro. (Had to travel light due to airfreight restrictions) No sliders, stablisers or even a monopod (deck vibrates constantly)

Even timelapse shots had to be warp stabilised to cure some of the movement (caused by crashing waves and high winds)

How does this lense perform at 1.5? Is it soft?

Special in combination with metabone canon EF to MFT XL adapter? Or straight mft on the gh4.

Also how does these lenses get along with gears and follow focus systems?

I wondered if I could use the iRig PRE as an XLR input, pre amp & +48v phantom power source for my Apex420 condenser microphone when connected to a GH4. I decided to roll the dice & connect the iRig PRE directly to a GH4 (via the 3.5mm mic input) for further investigation. DISCLAIMER: I am not an audio engineer. Please take that fact into consideration. I'm not affiliated with IK Multimedia in anyway (the makers of the iRig PRE). I simply saw (what appeared to be) the same 3.5mm TRRS plug between the two aforementioned devices & wanted to see if I could utilize some of the audio gear I already own. I was stoked to discover that I could record video & stereo audio directly to my SDHC card using this setup. The SNR & noise floor (with the iRig's pre amp turned up to 1/3 gain) sounded acceptable for my video/stereo audio recording purposes. Your personal view might differ & I respect that. More testing is needed to determine whether the iRig PRE is a pro-sumer audio solution or a professional audio solution for the GH4.

SIDE NOTE: the iRig PRE I’m using is NOT hacked. I connected my Apex420 to an XLR cable -> XLR cable to the iRig PRE–> iRig PRE 3.5mm TRRS plug to the GH4 3.5mm mic input. The iRig's pre amp was turned up to 1/3 gain. After connecting all of the cabling I tweaked a couple of settings within the “Motion picture” menu tab (page 6) as follows:

Mic Level Adj.: 0

Special Mic -> Manual -> Mic. Directivity Adjust: adjusted to the right side of the scale (cardioid) -> set. All special mike modes worked excluding the “stereo” setting.

Mic Level Limiter: On

The previous setup worked for me & I hope a similar setup utilizing the iRig PRE & GH4 works for you too. Please post your findings/gear setup/audio menu settings here.
