Guys, its time for me to ask a favour. I want YOU for 10 seconds.

I would like to put together a demo of the GH2 in INTRA mode to show off various settings for a Driftwood (Vimeo & downloadable) Spectacular to show its capabilities. I would like as many different scenes, lenses, EX Tele, iDynamic, etc...

The subject matter can be anything so long as it is only ONE scene location and lasts a maximum of 10 seconds. I want a collage of great variety to put together from around the world. Can be landscapes, wildlife, water, trees (groan!), people, whateverthef@ck you want (within reason!)
You may have already filmed something spectacular which this would be good for.

But it has to be filmed in ANY of the INTRA settings posted by me or adapted by yourselves.

So those interested private message (PM) me with a link to your mts & graded file (pro res HQ minimum) - the location, the lens, the extra settings, etc... etc...

Any titling will be put on by my editor following the details & specs you supply us. Therefore,everyone will get a credit on the footage so no problems :-)

And take great care getting perfect exposure for the subject required!

A question regarding ISO during recording

I'm aware that during the recording you cannot change the ISO value, you have to set it before pressing the record button. However what I don't understand is whether this is due to the ISO limit removal within the hack or if this is just how the camera was designed? If I removed the ISO limit removal from the hack would I be able to change the ISO during recording? Or is it completely not an option regardless of whether I have a hack on the camera or not?

Sorry if this has been asked before, I've searched the web and I see so many different answers which confuse me lol

Hi

I am looking for the best Mac Cross Conversion Software for 720P to 1080P. I shoot 1080P on the 5DMKII and want to use my hacked GH2 for slomo at 720P. I need to deliver the highest quality 1080P master that I can. What is the best method for cross converting the 720P material to 1080P ?

I have tried transcoding to ProRes 422 720P and then working with this in Avid Media Composer in a 1080P project, final results are not great this way. I have also tried converting the 720P material to 1080P ProRes - the results are not so great either.

Getting an excellent 720P final master, but what is the best way of working with the 720P and 1080P material to get the highest quality 1080P final master file ?

Morning all and Happy new year :)

While I was camping I got some nice footage and pictures with a 64gig (one of the SDXC ones for future) sd card in a Panasonic GH2.

I'll admit I was a bit stupid in just putting the memory card in, and snapping photos.

Currently the camera is reading the videos and images taken fine, so there would be no damage.

However plugging it into a Windows 7 based machine brings up a forced "please format this card" message. Is there an alternative way to mount it, or otherwise read the data before I properly format it?

Which lens for both video/stills?

Hi all,

I'm just about to purchase a GH2 and i've been considering a few lenses.

First is the summilux 25mm f1.4 which from what i have read is an outstanding lens for stills but no IS... From what i've read in various posts it also suffers from 'breathing' issues. I have read that this can be fixes buy un-selcting CAF! Is this really the case? Any good examples?

I've also looked at the Oly 45mm f1.8 but no IS and i want to start with a fairly versatile lens video/photo. I will defo purchase this lens in the coming months for portrait exhibition coming in june!

Next is the panny 14 to 140mm which seems to be offering best of both world ie: video/photo but at the cost of SDOF

I'm looking only at m4/3 lenses with AF so no need to mention the wonders of the Voigt f0.95 as i'm well aware of its capabilities and will be one i will get in time! I first need to settle in, in the new format!

My maximum budget is around £1150 for camera + lens

I look forward to hearing our ideas/thoughts

There has been a bit of discussion on this site about getting HDR on a GH2, mainly mentioning Magic Lantern for Canons. I would like to ask if there is any definitive reason why the GH2 cannot be hacked to do the same, ie alternate ISO between frames? If not, what would it take to get something similar to ML's HDR hack on the GH2?

My brother got me a GH2 for the holidays (yeah, he's the best), and seeing as how I had been using a hacked GH1 since hacking was even possible, I figured a small comparison would be fun.

Not Scientific, but both pixel peeping screen grabs are shot using the fantastic Voigtlander 25mm f0.95. The GH2 was patched with Quantum v.5 ( @driftwood , @Vitaliy_Kiselev you guys are rock stars), and the GH13 was patched long ago with 75Mbps variant (one, I've always been happy with).

(EDIT) Both grabs are f4.0 shutter 1/50 ISO 400

My initial impressions were confirmed when I transcoded the MTS files using 5dtoRGB, and brought the files into FCP7 and brought up the mids using the 3-way color corrector - the hacked GH2 is hiding tons of detail, and the difference is in the numbers - gh2 is at 145Mbps, the GH13 is at 34Mbps. I honestly couldn't believe my eyes. The GH2 noise structure is so much finer than the blocking that occurs on the GH13, and it resembles film grain in my humble point of view.

I just wanted to verify that this card works with cbrandin's 66mbps patch. It just wirelessly transferred a 11 second static clip to my MacBook Pro via wifi. Looks like transfers on set will be a lot faster and automatic. I will do more testing with the hacked GH2 with different patches soon, as well as whether or not it works with my AF100. Updates to come soon.

GH2 Patch for slow motion

Hi

I hope to be getting a GH2 soon and I've seen great progress and amazing results from 1080p @ 24p. However, since I use a lot of 60p @ 720p for slow motion shots I was wondering if there are any good patches that will achieve the amazing results of 1080p for the 720p slow motion? Ideally I'd like a high bit rate which produces really nice sharp slow motion, the kind of sharp image you get from 1080p.

Therefore are there any good patches for 720p at 60p? If there isn't any patches could I possibly change the bitrate and GOP myself and still achieve better 720p than the stock firmware? I will be using a Sandisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s.

Micro 4/3 lens doubler

I have a project coming up where I'll be buying a doubler for my lenses. I want to try to avoid buying a Nikon doubler, and Olympus OM doubler, etc. I want to buy a Micro 4/3 doubler, if they exist, so it covers all my lenses. Do they make such a thing?

Hello, I hoped to get some feedback, apologies if my questions are on the beginner side. Just ordered a GH2 at one of the sales. I have some old Konica lenses - 50mm/f 1.7 and some others. I know these are quite common but I wondered if it would be worth trying them out on the GH2 and if so which adapter and where to get it, and are there any issues or shortcomings I should be aware in trying it. ie can I damage my sensor with some of the older lenses? I have seen different adapters from prices ranging 20-200, and wondered if it is necessary to get a certain kind of adapter that fits this lens, or is a cheaper adapter going to work just as well. Thanks for any info.

Working on a PC because it has a card reader...

Ptool3d, gh1_132 from panasonic, and setb from blackout all in one folder on my desktop.
I open ptool, load the 132 firmware and not one letter towards the bottom of ptool becomes green.

very frustrated, at a stand still, ready to donate when I get the hack working.

i have faith p-v.com will come through in the end here...

Mac software to fix GH2 HDMI output

As discussed on this site and elsewhere the HDMI output of the GH2 camera is always interlaced, even if the clip is really 24p.
The telecine method used to convert from 24p to 50i or 60i results in very irregular interlace patterns that defeat standard inverse telecine procedures.

The following cases need correction:
1. 24p output in NTSC mode (60i)
1. 24p output in PAL mode (50i)
3. 29.97i output as 30i (NTSC)

If there are more, let me know.

So far I have been able to deal with the 24p->50i case. If you have a Mac and a PAL camera download my software JES Deinterlacer (Mac only) and give it a try. You need the latest alpha (v3.8).
For the other two cases I need test files. One or two minutes of footage is enough. Just provide me with a download link.

I have a NTSC version of the GH2, and it's charger that is supplied has the us style two prongs - they look like this:

I was wondering, If i were to get about 1k - if there was any adapter out there for me with the possibility of rack focusing and getting reasonably close to the subject?

GH2 MJPEG 1080p 25 fps.

Odd. Last time I tried the Change fps function for MJPEG it just fubar'ed all the time.

Now I went to stock settings (original GH2) for MJPEG with 25 fps, worked. So loaded the LPOWELL 100mbps/night 1080p settings, added 25 fps changed, works on my GH2. I'm not sure if it's merely dropping 5 frames out of every second (don't think it is). But if you shoot 1/25th, not sure if that it'd matter?

I'll try to examine it at some point with some linear motion at fixed speed, and look for 'jumps' in space.

My test file is reported as 75,697 kbps. Or 74 mbps. Which would be 88.7 mbps @ 30 fps, at the same average size/compression per frame. Available recording time is reported as 3m 12s. Recording on a Transcend 32gb class 10.

Test file was shot at ISO 2500, probably a stop underexposed still by the looks, just messing around in indoor light.

I'll do some slow panning on a monopod tomorrow with shutters @ and greater than 1/30th, and upload that.

Also I have gotten sizes a bit above 1080p working fine before too, which is useful I think for stabilising software if (such as deshaker) if you can shooter slightly wider than you want/need, so you don't have to blow up (or blow up as much) back to 1080p frame size for a 1080p output workflow. Combined with 25 fps would be great.

only used nokton 25/0.95
edit in FCP. no post processing at all. everything is out-of-cam.

GH2 Hack - File Sizes

About to pick up the GH2 and I'm trying to figure out the best option for cards. I haven't found many posts discussing file sizes.

I was wondering how much footage a 16GB card would hold (figured I'd be better off getting several 16GB then 32GB and keep copying the data to a laptop during a shoot).

Been looking at the 16GB SanDisk Extreme Pro (45mbs).

I'm guessing this also largely depends on which settings I will end up using. I'd be shooting at 1080p. Seems like 42mbit is popular but I've been seeing a lot of 176mbit popping up lately.

Basically I want to make sure I'm not going to only get like 8mins of footage per 16GB :)

It's been beautiful in upstate NY the past month. Decided to shoot some footage using the 44mb hack last week and make a little edited piece out of it. This is the first cutting I've done of anything shot with any of the hacks. I was happy with the results. Would I have benefited at all with a higher bitrate option like driftwood's?

It says $999 in the B&H link but when you add to cart it says $699 plus shipping. BUT....at Amazon it's also $699 with possible free shipping. I don't see shipping costs cause I have Amazon Prime, but it does say Prime Eligible. B&H deal until sold out or Dec 17. Amazon doesn't say how long it will be onsale and it has no inventory listing, but it is sold by Amazon, not third party.

I finally bit the bullet and bought one. GH2 envy no more. ^_^
