After a few years of video production and broadcast I am starting to rent out equipment but I am also traveling to more shooting locations that endanger my gear (extreme weather, sandy/humid, warzones and areas with a high crime rate). I never had major issues but I would like to get insurance for my gear. Does anyone know a good insurance company with good policies & good rates (international)? What is your experience? Is it worth it? What if expensive gear breaks in the middle of a production and you need a replacement?

thanks for the feedback! vaitor

My company is investing in new equipment, can anyone offer advice on camera packages! http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6688/my-company-is-investing-in-new-equipment-can-anyone-offer-advice-on-camera-packages Sat, 13 Apr 2013 11:30:24 +0000 thougts2uk 6688@/talks/discussions Hi there,

My company is going to invest in camera equipment and have asked me to give them an equipment wish list but with several options. What can anyone advise? We will be shooting high concept corporate videos and transitioning to commercials, to produce in-house at an ad agency.

I was thinking the following for 4k acquisition.

  • Option 1: Sony FS700 + Odyssey 7Q 4k Recorder
  • Option 2: RED Scarlet
  • Option 3: Black Magic Cinema Camera 4K + 2K Pocket Camera
  • Option 4: Canon 1Dc

For HD 1080p;

  • Option 5: Panasonic GH3
  • Option 6: Canon C100 or C300.

Lenses: Zeiss CP.2 lens 5 piece lens kit

Rig - Lanparte Rig

The company already owns Canon 5D MK3 with Canon lenses but I am happy to change.

Thanks in advance.

Borrow/rent equipment for a short film in April (South England) http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6501/borrowrent-equipment-for-a-short-film-in-april-south-england Mon, 25 Mar 2013 21:35:47 +0000 glebnagorny 6501@/talks/discussions Hi all,

I am planning to make a short film in the beginning of April (about 3-5 filming days). My main locations are in Guildford, Surrey, UK. Basically I am looking for Panasonic GH2 equipment, so perhaps someone local would be interested to help with that.

Most importantly I am looking for fast Voigtlander lenses (17.5mm, 25mm) and SLR Magic (12mm). I only found 25mm. If there any other rental website with a bigger choice of lenses, please let me know. Also I am looking for a small power generator for outside filming, lighting (LEDs, spotlights), slider and a strong wind shield for a microphone (record exterior dialogue on the hill). If someone has GH3, that would be quite an interesting option as well!

Please PM me, if you can help with something. I can provide more information about the film if needed.

Best,

Gleb

Film-making in the cold - how do you keep your equipment going? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5595/film-making-in-the-cold-how-do-you-keep-your-equipment-going Thu, 27 Dec 2012 19:24:19 +0000 RRRR 5595@/talks/discussions On set today (just below 0 celsius) I had a hard time with vintage focusing helicoids stiffening up to the point where it was impossible to use a follow focus. A fog machine couldn´t get warm enough to produce smoke, among other things. What are your tips / workarounds for keeping gear in working order when the conditions are difficult? Another day of shooting tomorrow and I´m trying to come up with some ways to at least be able to use the lenses I intended to.

PTZ cam experiences http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4979/ptz-cam-experiences Wed, 24 Oct 2012 09:45:50 +0000 RRRR 4979@/talks/discussions I´m looking for experiences of remote controlled PTZ cams. Personally, I have a very troubled relationship to a panasonic aw-he50 (can´t get rid of light hz interference) and I´m looking for potential replacements to this piece of ....

Sony EVI-H100s seems reasonable from the spec sheet but it seems impossible to find any footage from it.

I´m sure there are other options out there as well.

(edit: Vitaliy, feel free to move topic if you think it´s better suited elsewhere)

New production overview video http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4254/new-production-overview-video Wed, 15 Aug 2012 16:37:31 +0000 wrayclark91 4254@/talks/discussions

I just finished shooting and this is a rough cut of the work I've been doing on and off at the company I work for. I am actually their network/sys admin but I do some marking stuff on the side. It's shot with a hacked Lumix GH2 and edited in premier/ae cs6. We used to have an outside company do our video but do to the affordability of good video cameras we are experimenting just doing it in house.

I am working with limited equipment and time so there are some less than perfect (shaky) shots. If you have any ideas on affordable gear or just shooting/editing advice that would improve things let me know!

Oh and yes I do know that Vimeo has a commercial (Pro) subscription for commercial projects. I am in the process of getting the purchase approved. Mainly just using it as a test bed right now.

Thanks, Clark
