Cheap usefull camera replacement. http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/24068/lx100-dead-quest-to-replace-the-little-one.-cheap-usefull-camera-replacement. Thu, 09 Jul 2020 20:33:16 +0000 RoadsidePicnic 24068@/talks/discussions My LX100 is dying. Cant blame it after 6 years of service and lots of abuse. The lens started to get struck, lots of dust in sensor, I opened the thing and cleaned it a bit, put some white grease in the lens carriage (why they dont put it in factory to start with? why run it dry?), its better now but the lens motor still weak. Obviously they charge a hundred bucks for a little half a dozen dolar eletric motor.

Thing is, maybe is time to change the gear, so I'm doing some research and collecting info into an upgrade path/replacement here.

Scope:

  • personal camera

  • 4K30p or better

  • 2k60p or better

  • good bitrate, decent quality, don't mind raw

  • will not dump loads of money into it, ideally $800 fully operational

  • can make pro work, useful in-camera tools (yes LX100 was pretty capable, not talking about Ale$$$xa here)

  • wifi, stopmotion, timelapse, control app

  • hdmi not important but a plus

  • uses cheap media, cheap to stabilize and grip, minimally solid, will not sudenlly stop working on location, will not fry on mist, etc

GH3 with dead LCD (flex cable issue) http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16316/gh3-with-dead-lcd-flex-cable-issue Tue, 10 Jan 2017 16:27:40 +0000 EspenB 16316@/talks/discussions First of all I had the wobbly GH3 LCD hinge which was repaired under warranty a couple of years ago.

However, when I got it back after repair (in 2014?) the LCD did not turn on when it was extended away from the camera body. I shipped it in for repair again and as far as I recall the complete hinge assembly with cable was replaced. Now the LCD worked correctly again.

Summer of 2016 the LCD went dead again. However some light tapping/knock shock to the side of the body/hinge makes the LCD turn on again in some positions, but the colors are sometimes posterized or the image is darker than normal. There is no wobbly hinge, but it seems that the flex cable in the hinge has issues yet again.

Looking for parts on ebay I find both the flex cabel as a separate part and the flex cable allready attached to the hinge assembly.

Do anyone have experience replacing the complete hinge with flex cable?

Also, I'm kind of disappointed about the flex cable malfunctions. Is this a typical problem of cameras with rotating LCDs? Looking at the GH3 flex cable parts on ebay they seem to sell a lot...

Problem - GH2 LCD DEAD! http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8146/problem-gh2-lcd-dead Wed, 18 Sep 2013 09:50:41 +0000 blackspot 8146@/talks/discussions Hello!

LCD display of my 2 year old GH2 is now dead. LVF works fine.

Camera works otherwise perfectly and even touch-function on LCD works!, but no image on LCD screen.

Does any know about what might be causing this problem?

Nothing obvious has happened to the camera. Last time used it 2 weeks ago in a wedding.

I didn't find any similar situations on the internet yet.

Hot/Stuck/Dead Green Pixel in Video Footage http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5550/hotstuckdead-green-pixel-in-video-footage Fri, 21 Dec 2012 22:28:46 +0000 matt_gh2 5550@/talks/discussions I'm hoping someone has some knowledge on this problem and hopefully a solution. I've got a "green dot" appearing in all my video footage. It's in the same location and doesn't move. It's not always visible, but when panning, I'll see it if it goes over certain types of colors, focus, etc. There's also another gray/translucent dot. I've eliminated the following possible causes (different SD Cards, with or without Hack, different Lens, & different Monitor footage is viewed on.)

So I guess this is what is called a "Hot Pixel"?

How do I fix this? Thanks.

Atomos Ninja frying drive? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4551/atomos-ninja-frying-drive Wed, 12 Sep 2012 06:16:28 +0000 Gabel 4551@/talks/discussions I am an owner of a Ninja that I bought used and as such didn't get any drives with it. I decided on the new Intel 330 series, as they were very good specs at a good price. Everything worked fine in the Ninja, until after a shoot where I left the drive sitting in the caddy on the computer over night (as it was 3 in the morning and we didn't have time to go). I returned the next morning and found everything transferred, phew. But but I had an error message saying that the drive had been unmounted, so I put it into my Ninja... And it didn't register it! I couldn't even format it, to the Ninja I had "nothing" in the drive. It seemed it was dead. I heard that on the 320 series you could get the Bad Context 13x error, where if the drive was unmounted any way that wasn't perfect, it would die on you. Could this be the same here? Because if that's the case, then I'm really scared, as getting unmounted improperly can happen when you pull it in and out of different devices. It seemed to be enough to just have it pulled without the computer unmounting it...

So I wonder, can I do anything to see if I can get the drive working again? Any software, tips? I should mention that I'm a Mac user... And if not, is this a problem with the 330 drives then? If so, any tips on ones that doesn't do this? Because I can not have this happen again on a shoot!

Collimating anamorphic lenses, m43 body request http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3070/collimating-anamorphic-lenses-m43-body-request Tue, 01 May 2012 15:20:05 +0000 shane 3070@/talks/discussions I am hoping to ship one to Olexandr of Olex Camera Services in Ukraine so that he has a body to use for more accurate anamorphic lens collimation for my GH2 -- and all anamorphic lenses to be used on GH2s in the future! I have been speaking to him and he doesn't need a working model, just something to help him calibrate more accurately.

Can I give some money to someone to ship their dead/damaged/non-functioning GH2 to him?

Recovering DEAD Third-Party GH2 Battery! http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1399/recovering-dead-third-party-gh2-battery Wed, 09 Nov 2011 14:24:35 +0000 fatpig 1399@/talks/discussions
I just wanted to share this:
I got a 1400mah third party gh2 battery off ebay, worked fine but then after an long shoot, eventually died, which is perfectly normal.
Often these batteries dont recharge. so they have to be replaced and are essentially worthless.

I discovered, that these batteries CAN be recharged, but not with the original charger, but with a third-party charger (just take a cheap gh2 charger off ebay) - i suggest this works because they are missing the third connector pin, and this would be some kind of control connector.

PS: If connected to the third party charger for about one second, the official charger also charges the battery again. It's about getting that little bit of power in there, for the original one to charge again. Now i have three working batteries. Yay!]]>
