Recommendations for Editing Stations under $3K?

It looks like we don't have a topic for NLE editing stations.

I'm looking to invest in a new computer editing station with dual monitors. I'm looking at Premiere CS5.5 as my main NLE. I don't want to spend more than $3,000 (and preferably not too much more than $2,500). EDIT: I'm specifically looking at getting a PC but discussion about mac or hackintosh are okay too!

I'm guessing some people are in or will be in my situation in the future, so let's start a thread to think of options and recommendations. Ideas? (let's also not turn this into a flame war of mac vs pc vs linux, or fcp vs adobe vs avid!)

Opinions from switchers of CS5.5 to CS6?

I'm guessing quite a few folks have experience here with CS5.5 and CS6.

I recently found someone to sell me the entire CS5.5 master collection for just under $100 (they are legitimate and it's not pirated). But.... I'm also a student and can get the CS6 production premium for around $450 (or so). The upgrade costs to CS5.5 to CS6 seem like they are almost as much as the CS6 student pricing.. so... I'm wondering if the new features (esecially in premiere cs6) are worth the extra money???

What is your personal view about cs6 vs cs5.5? :-)

Resizing to lower rezolution

Is there a tool that's better for re-sizing to sd for DVD release than media encoder in CS 5.5? I did a side by side (by side) comparison between After Effects, Media Encoder, and Virtual Dub (lanczos3) and they all look about the same. None of them look great. Will a hardware solution make any difference in quality? I always thought it just sped things up.
