Panasonic GH4 - Manual control while video recoring http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10886/panasonic-gh4-manual-control-while-video-recoring Fri, 25 Jul 2014 20:49:48 +0000 shaunlawson 10886@/talks/discussions Hello,

I have two GH2 that I love for video work. One major disadvantage of the GH2 is

when recording video start, I loss camera control, of ISO/Iris/Shutter. The only

control I have is focus.

Would any GH4 owner kindly advise me that the GH4 let them control the camera

fully when the camera is recording video.

Many thanks for your help, Shaun

MagicWand wireless remote for BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera et al... http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8736/magicwand-wireless-remote-for-blackmagic-pocket-cinema-camera-et-al... Mon, 11 Nov 2013 02:22:00 +0000 DocoDocoMan 8736@/talks/discussions Hi Folks,

I knocked up a quick, rough and ready Proof of Concept demo video of my project "MagicWand" wireless remote for the BMPCC and it is now available on Vimeo:

The plan is to build an Android App with other platforms to follow if there is sufficient interest.

So far AutoFocus, FocusNear, FocusFar, AutoIris, IrisOpen, IrisClose and Record Start/Stop are function over the wireless link.

Zoom is also planned, I just need a lens to test with. Anyone got a spare of the new Panasonic 14-42mm power zoom?

I can't see why it wont work with the other BMD cameras as well, I just don't have the means to test these yet.

Regards,

Andy.

My motion control WIP http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3421/my-motion-control-wip Wed, 30 May 2012 21:56:34 +0000 mk47 3421@/talks/discussions Hello guys,

I've been working on a motion control prototype unit with a friend. Its coming along nicely, so i thought I would share some pictures with you guys.

It will be a 2 axis head on a linear slider with zoom and focus controls.

I have no plans to include 3D camera path export, due to the build level of the rig, but it should work for repeating the same move perfectly many times and for time lapses.

PTZ cam experiences http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4979/ptz-cam-experiences Wed, 24 Oct 2012 09:45:50 +0000 RRRR 4979@/talks/discussions I´m looking for experiences of remote controlled PTZ cams. Personally, I have a very troubled relationship to a panasonic aw-he50 (can´t get rid of light hz interference) and I´m looking for potential replacements to this piece of ....

Sony EVI-H100s seems reasonable from the spec sheet but it seems impossible to find any footage from it.

I´m sure there are other options out there as well.

(edit: Vitaliy, feel free to move topic if you think it´s better suited elsewhere)

High Bitrate, Direct In camera playback, and Pasadena http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3939/high-bitrate-direct-in-camera-playback-and-pasadena Tue, 17 Jul 2012 10:05:47 +0000 Mckinise 3939@/talks/discussions I am looking for a stable patch that provides a high bit rate and the ability to directly playback in cam without the need to switch it off first. I am also wanting to implement the Pasadena sound settings.

I am more interested in stability and direct playback than push the camera to its limits. As far as the sound hack goes I am just trying to limit or eliminate the Automatic Gain Control (AGC).

Internal to External Microphone Switch-over + remote focus and shutter control http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1561/-internal-to-external-microphone-switch-over-remote-focus-and-shutter-control- Sat, 26 Nov 2011 16:37:37 +0000 andyharris 1561@/talks/discussions
The circuit is here:

http://forums.steves-digicams.com/panasonic-leica/69192-fz20-remote-shutter-panasonic-dmw-rs1-2.html

However I find that with this, the external microphone is not enabled. I've been wondering if this is something a firmware hack could address or do I have to modify the circuit further.

Listening to some test clips back it seems that the external microphone is contributing a little when the 'half press' button is operated, leading me to think that the mics are getting mixed through resistance.

A possible experiment is to change the resistance between pins 3 and 4 to work out at which point it decides that the external microphone should be used.

My application is a thumb operated remote on a 'FigRig' mounted GH2 with hopefully a Rode Video mic giving me more directional pickup.

Full autofocus and aperture control of Canon Lenses on GH-2 with adapter http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2411/full-autofocus-and-aperture-control-of-canon-lenses-on-gh-2-with-adapter Sun, 26 Feb 2012 14:05:04 +0000 disneytoy 2411@/talks/discussions This comes from:

http://diydrones.com/profiles/blogs/arduino-control-of-a-camera-lens

Vladimir-- built an Arduino-based pass-through ring (translated) which intercepts automatic lens controls. It’s meant for use with the Canon EOS lenses which have their own electronics allowing control of things like focus and zoom.

It seems like part of the motivation here was to uses the lenses with other brands of cameras. But Vladimir does also talk about the possibility of improving on some of the sensors that don’t perform well in certain climate conditions (think of how crystal oscillators will drift as temperature changes).

The machine translation is a bit rough to follow, but it seems the adapter ring still uses the settings sent in from the camera but has the Arduino clone to translate them into a format that the lens is expecting. In addition to this there is a set of buttons on that small PCB beside the lens which allow for fine tuning the aperture.

Here is the Russian link if anyone can translate or extract better info:

http://www.ixbt.com/digimage/canonautosonyl.shtml

It would be nice to translate GH-2 lens focus commands to say Canon. Then we can have our autofocus and aperture control on a wide range of adapted lenses.

Maybe a Russian speaker can e-mail him to see if he can adapt to M43 to canon rather than Sony to Canon.

DIY "remote" focus control (accurate, LEGO!) http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2282/diy-remote-focus-control-accurate-lego Tue, 14 Feb 2012 16:40:33 +0000 Matt 2282@/talks/discussions Okay, so this is not a particularly clever invention, but it actually works and is quite useful, which makes it worth sharing. :)

Now, I've had an idea in my head for quite a while now; remotely controlling a DSLR's lens' focus ring using (I don't know the proper word) 'motor mirroring'. Basically using one motor as the "generator", and the other to control the focus. So it happens that I found my LEGO and made my idea! Really pleased with how it turned out, so I thought I'd make a video demonstrating it and to show it to everyone here, as I think it's of interest to the people who browse these forums.

It's pretty useful for me personally, because of my shooting style. If you have LEGO, try and build yourself one. Mine took an hour, but I'm sure if one was to invest more time a better device could be created!

Plus many of them are cheaper.

Best build quality I think goes to Arturia Laboratory, alu and wood sides.
Novation SL MkII is also good.
Worst to cheap M-Audio Axiom (non-pro) and Behringer.
