I've secured $5000 funding for a camera upgrade. I've been using an FS100 for 3/4 years and have enjoyed low light and 60fps capabilities. I've been freelancing and running my small prod company for the same amount of time and my commercial is reaching new levels, and my clientele is slightly climbing the ladder.

The big question is : Do I need to upgrade to a 4k system to be able to compete next year and the following 3?

If so do I go the Big Ursa route? Or the Ursa Mini 4.6 k. (I may be able to acquire a Big Ursa V1 for $3800)

Either way I'm looking at pairing with an A7s as lowlight isn't a huge muscle with these cameras.

If 4k isn't necessary than I'm looking at an FS700 as over crank is a big component of my work and I maintain low light capabilities.

My main concerns about the Big Ursa are flying it (gimbal, crane, slider, hand held, tripod for that matter)

Commercial Script - Setting Customer expectations http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9862/commercial-script-setting-customer-expectations Wed, 12 Mar 2014 13:10:44 +0000 andyharris 9862@/talks/discussions Over the last week or so I've been doing some business development with local companies that might need some video for their websites etc.

These are the sort of companies that more than likely would not have engaged a video production before, or just made their own simple youtube videos.

The success rate in getting initial meetings is about 20:1, we're getting favourable comments regarding our corporate examples. However the main worry for these companies is controlling the cost and knowing what they are going to get for their budget.

On some recent projects with a customer I know well I've used the script as a sort of 'contract' as to what they are going to get - if they want more or a change to the script after it has been shot they know that there will be a charge incurred.

I've expanded the idea a bit more and made this page on our website:

     http://wbavproductions.co.uk/resources/script.html

I'd be curious to learn if anyone here has any tips for engaging with companies that need video but haven't started yet.

Thanks for thinking .... Andy

Need Help Negotiating Buyout...Client wants to put our commercial on TV http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8501/need-help-negotiating-buyout...client-wants-to-put-our-commercial-on-tv Mon, 21 Oct 2013 19:36:13 +0000 pchristoph 8501@/talks/discussions Hey guys. One of our clients got so excited about the commercial we shot that they want to put it on TV. We think that's awesome but...our contract with them outlines it is only for web use. They are insistent that they have paid for the rights to use it however they like. Can anyone out there provide some information or links online about the buyout costs for video production for broadcast use so I can present an intelligent case for why it will cost them more money to put the commercial on TV? What are the rates for broadcast anyways? Totally new territory boys. Thanks!

Still Master Vodka - Take A Moment http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8449/still-master-vodka-take-a-moment Wed, 16 Oct 2013 17:13:42 +0000 pchristoph 8449@/talks/discussions
This was a fun commercial I shot at the end of August for a new product line of Canadian Vodka from Shelter Point Distillery. The clients have great personalities and it is rewarding to build relationships with people who trust my work and ideas. I think together we are developing a good brand that represents who they are. That sandbar is over 600ft from shore. It was a chore to get all our gear there at low tide. At high tide, we used row boats to cart everything back though. Coordinating the time of day for the shoot with the tides in and out for shots was tricky. It made me glad I am a sailor and knew how to read tide and current tables during preproduction! The aerial shot at the end was captured using an octocopter by Duane over at AboveGroundLevel.ca All shots on GH2 (magenta filter in front of sensor) ISO 200, Super Takumar lenses (28mm, 35mm, 50mm macro, 135mm), smooth all -2, Driftwood's Moon Trial 7, Speedbooster, colored and edited in FCPX.

Commercial / promo for Sagene, Oslo, Norway - flow motion hack http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4840/commercial-promo-for-sagene-oslo-norway-flow-motion-hack Mon, 08 Oct 2012 11:55:27 +0000 cekrem 4840@/talks/discussions http://vimeo.com/welterwerk/sagene

Welterwerk Filmkompani recently shot this short promo for Sagene, a district of Oslo, Norway. Shot exclusively on our hacked GH2. Zeiss glass! :) Time was short, and the budget was ridiculously low - but we’re quite happy with the result.

The rain-like, diagonal noise showed up in quite a few shots, but disappeared when transcoding in 5DtoRGB. Weird! Other than that, the GH2 - and the hack - performed like expected: top notch!

Enjoy! And if you haven’t already, check out Welterwerks own promo video: http://vimeo.com/welterwerk/welterwerk

Spec Commercials with good 'ole Quantum-X Orion. Mostly 60fps stuff... http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4140/spec-commercials-with-good-ole-quantum-x-orion.-mostly-60fps-stuff...- Fri, 03 Aug 2012 16:58:10 +0000 bwhitz 4140@/talks/discussions It's pretty ridiculous. Shot with Quantum-X Orion. It's my favorite for 60fps stuff. It seriously looks like 1080p material from something like an EX3 when up-ressed...

Oh here's another one too... shot all at night. 60fps Orion still looks great in low-light!

Got Milk Ad Competition Entry Shot With Sedna AQ1 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2927/got-milk-ad-competition-entry-shot-with-sedna-aq1 Wed, 18 Apr 2012 14:07:54 +0000 Philldaagony 2927@/talks/discussions http://www.zooppa.com/ads/its-just-not-breakfast-without-milk/videos/milk-interviews#.T477havjhNk.facebook

I helped produce this Got Milk for the competition linked above. I've been busy finishing up my Masters and didn't have time to actually help shoot, but I did do the color work in post. We used my GH2 with the AQ1 Sedna A or B hack, I can't remember now, and I had them record at 24L settings to extend the card life while shooting interviews in public with strangers. Most everything was shot using the 25mm Voigt and a 50mm 1.4 Nikkor. We used a Tascam Dr-40 paired with an Azden SMG2x shotgun mic for audio pickup.

Unfortunately we can't post the video anywhere else until the contest is done. We'd appreciate the votes, but I'm more interested in sharing work done on the GH2! I'll be sure to upload it to Vimeo as soon as we can.

Check out my latest commercial shot on two hacked GH1's (GH13, GH17). The camera did freeze on the really wide shot, but after I opened up a bit, the write errors went away.

http://www.crashthesuperbowl.com/#/gallery?video=16876

I was using my "Pixelphile Indy Filmmaker Settings" that I did step by step tutorials for a couple of months ago.

http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/comment/11028#Comment_11028

Shot on a two hacked Panasonic GH1's at ISO 100, 23.976 fps, with a Vivitar 17mm f3.5, Canon FD 20mm f2.8, Canon FL 35mm f2.5, Canon FL 55mm f1.2, Rainbow Imaging FL/FD Adapter and LightCraft Workshop Fader ND.

Hope you like it.
