Good SD Card for GH2 Driftwood MoonT7 170Mbps http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/27309/good-sd-card-for-gh2-driftwood-moont7-170mbps- Sun, 18 Sep 2022 07:20:48 +0000 Anatoli 27309@/talks/discussions Hello, hope you're all doing well.

Since this patches are all a bit dated, I wanted to know if I they would work well on a 170MBps or faster Sand Disk card, like a SanDisk SDXC 64Gb 170MBps or faster.

Thanks in advance

Have a nice weekend

Anker USB 3.0 Card Reader review http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/20652/anker-usb-3.0-card-reader-review Thu, 11 Oct 2018 17:43:20 +0000 DrDave 20652@/talks/discussions I bought one of these because Vitaliy posted a discount code. I instantly regretted it since I have at least seven or eight card readers, but what the hey, in for a penny, as they say.
In many respects, it looks like the ubiquitous Transcend model and costs about the same. One annoying feature is that the label is on the wrong side, so when you load a card you face the label the other way. No biggie.
Compared to the Transcend, the Anker is a tiny bit faster in transfer speeds, but only by a few percent. The Transcend is smaller, thinner, lighter and has a better fit. The Anker will also copy from a regular sized SD to a micro SD. So, not a speed demon but perfectly fine. I slightly prefer the Transcend but they are very similar.
Note that if you are a heavy SD card user, heat is an issue. I use the Transcend because it runs fairly cool; these cards can get really hot if you are offloading hours of footage.
Avoid the Lexar style or any design that covers up the whole card: the card needs air to stay cool. It's a bit snug. I mention this because there is always a small risk if you have a tight connector that you can damage something.

SD cards speed tests http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3152/sd-cards-speed-tests Wed, 09 May 2012 07:50:51 +0000 humpman 3152@/talks/discussions Here are the simple instructions.

  1. Download HD_Speed zip file from http://www.steelbytes.com/?mid=20
  2. Extract the HD_Speed.exe executable from the zip file and start it. It may hang for a while (Not Responding) when it starts up because it is scanning your system for drives but eventually will become available.
  3. Set the parameters to Bits/Sec, BlockSize=32KB, Mode=Write and Duration 01:00.
  4. Insert your blank SD card in your computer. HD_Speed will destroy all data on your card.
  5. Choose the appropriate drive letter in HD_Speed and run the test. Be careful here, don't choose your other drives. When you're done, you'll want to format your card before using it.
  6. Report your results in Mbps along with the following information:
  • Card Reader
  • Card Brand
  • Card Type (SD or SDHC or SDXC)
  • Card Class
  • Card Size (in GB)
  • Date Purchased
  • Card Write Speed (in Mbps) Current and Average

Among everything you can use for white balance card PTFE is usually best. Just make sure that it is not too shiny to reflect light spots.

Reason for this is

image

In visible range it has exceptional uniformity, so it reflect exactly only light source spectrum, contrary to most white paper that can play trick due to UV agents added to boos perceived whiteness. Here is sample of paper (they are all different, btw):

Do not use too thin PTFE items - use 2mm or more.

Price is around $6 for 100x100 sheet.

GH4 laptop Requirements? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9956/gh4-laptop-requirements Mon, 24 Mar 2014 12:58:47 +0000 mpgxsvcd 9956@/talks/discussions Let me start this off with saying that I know a desktop is a better option for this. However, I absolutely must have a laptop to do my editing on the road while it is happening. I have a matter of hours to edit this footage and not days, weeks, or months.

Also I am a PC guy. I understand that some people use Macs. That just isn’t for me. I want a fast PC laptop that can handle editing the GH4 4K video for less than $2000.

I definitely need to upgrade my laptop before my GH4 gets here. However, I am not sure what specs will help me and what will just cost me more money and not really give me any benefit.

Obviously a 4K screen would be ideal to match the footage. However, is that really necessary? With a 15-19 inch screen is that extra resolution going to matter at all? How much are the 4K laptops going to be? Is 1920x1080 going to look about the same as 4K on this size screen? Do any of you have a 4K laptop already?

What Grpahics processor? I have always been an ATI person before. However, Nvidia makes great video cards as well. What is the minimum ATI and Nvidia card that will work for editing 4k footage? Is the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770M enough?

Processor. It is confusing about what processor are fast and what processors are just pretending to be fast. My understanding is that I7 doesn’t always mean what you think it means. So what processor should I be looking for? Is the i7-4700MQ the best processor to get right now?

Operating system. I really hate Windows 8. I have a laptop with it and I hate it. I really don’t want to get another one with Windows 8. Will Windows 7 hold me back in any way? I have a lot of astrophotography programs that I also run and those won’t work properly under Windows 8.

Ram. I know the more you have the better. However, will you see a difference between 16 Gigs and 32 Gigs? There is usually a significant price difference between those. Is 16GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM enough?

Hard Drive. I am using USB 3.0 external drives right now. I need a lot more than 250 or even 500 GB so solid state is not really an option for me. Is solid state that much faster than USB 3.0?

Here is one laptop I am looking at. It is an Alienware 17.3" Laptop - 16GB Memory with the components I listed above. Are there better options out there for less than $1850?

Panasonic GH1 SD Card Door http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15579/panasonic-gh1-sd-card-door Wed, 24 Aug 2016 08:44:32 +0000 adamxp12 15579@/talks/discussions OK so I have been a reader on this forum for quite a long time, even before I made an account, but this is my first post, I have a GH1 which I still think is an awesome camera for the work I do, I don't see the point in spending lots of money on a newer model if the GH1 does all I want + without the stupid EU 30 minute time limit thanks to the hack, I like to do timelapse's and so the no limit recording time is a feature that only a brand new GH4 can support but £1k is way too much for a 17y/o to spend on a camera

So that's where this comes in, the SD card door on my GH1 recently broke, not sure how but it has, it don't latch properly at the front of the camera making it protrude, I saw a post about this on personal-view where someone fixed it by gluing a needle to it, but with quite vague directions, the only other solution I can think of is either buying a used G1/GH1 just for a door, or to somehow figure out how to fix my door

Does anyone have an idea of how it can be fixed? pictures would really help here as I have no idea what a non broken door looks like, its not one of them things I really paid attention to before it broke

SDHC UHS Speed Class 3 cards for 4K http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8688/sdhc-uhs-speed-class-3-cards-for-4k Wed, 06 Nov 2013 21:40:01 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 8688@/talks/discussions

SD Association have announced a new high-performance option and symbol specifically designed to support a wide array of 4K2K television and video products.

A new Ultra High Speed (UHS) Speed Class 3 (U3) symbol will indicate products capable of recording 4K2K video and will operate exclusively on SDXC UHS-I and UHS-II memory cards and devices and SDHC UHS-I and UHS-II memory cards and devices.

The UHS Speed Class 3 defines a sizzling fast 30 Megabytes per second constant minimum write speed to ensure high-quality video recordings. This means 4K2K video, live broadcasts and content can be recorded on high-performance cameras such as Digital Single Lens Reflex (D-SLR), Digital Single Lens Mirrorless(DSLM), camcorders and video cameras and then played back smoothly. Consumers will benefit from a single card that is capable of meeting all of their video, photo, music, document and data storage needs.

“The world’s favorite SD memory card continues to evolve and meet shifting industry needs,” said Brian Kumagai, president of the SD Association. “Our new UHS Speed Class 3 standard will give consumers and businesses more flexibility and capability as the market shifts to 4K2K video formats. Both SDXC and SDHC memory card standards already offer the massive storage needed to support 4K2K video with enough room to store photos, music, documents and other data on a single portable card.”

New devices offering the UHS Speed Class 3 will be backwards compatible and will work with existing SD memory cards.

New standard speed between the memory card and the device can be up to 312 Megabytes per second.

Graphics card for video editing http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3823/graphics-card-for-video-editing Sun, 08 Jul 2012 04:55:09 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 3823@/talks/discussions My current understanding of the subject:

  1. It must be NVidia card, due to CUDA requirement by Adobe and DaVinci (and some plugins).
  2. Something relatively cheap, and not big and noisy.
  3. Maximum connections.
  4. Good memory size, important for DaVinci.

My idea is GT640 based cards.
Not very pricey. Do not consume big power. Usable in games, and some firms make versions with 10cm fans. Worst thing is that normal output config is 2xDVI, HDMI and VGA, I prefer to have DP instead of VGA.

But if you are using famous cheap 27" monitors it must be ok.

GT 640, 384 CUDA cores

Other suggestion is powerful GTX 670, 1344 CUDA cores cards, they also have more memory options, can be good for future.

GTX 680, 1536 CUDA cores

Slightly cheaper option, has almost the same performance as GTX 670 cards (I mean only video editing related tasks)

EVGA GeForce GTX570 HD 2560MB, about $320

On my current setup, i tried to run some original footages from the GH4 camera and its not very smooth on the Adobe Premier Pro editing software Playback while editing (Tried setting it at FULL, 1/4, 1/8 but its laggy).

Do i need an additional 755M Graphics card (or any other cheaper, better third party alternative for it)? Or just a further upgrade of 8GB internal Memory ram would be good enough with the preexisting 2gb 755M in my Laptop for the purpose mentioned? If yes, whats the best Memory upgrade for my laptop (Third party model name of the RAM, cost etc.).

Toshiba Exceria Pro SDHC cards, 240MB/s write speed http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7529/toshiba-exceria-pro-sdhc-cards-240mbs-write-speed- Tue, 16 Jul 2013 08:00:31 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 7529@/talks/discussions image

TOKYO—Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) today announced that it will launch a new series of SD memory cards offering the world's fastest data write speed. The latest edition to its line-up of EXCERIA memory cards designed to offer users of high-end digital cameras an excellent experience, the EXCERIA PROTM1 and EXCERIATM1 cards will be launched in major markets worldwide, starting with Japan in October.

EXCERIA cards compliant with UHS-II will be available in two series. The EXCERIA PRO series will offer photographers a data write speed of 240MB/sec2 the world's fastest3, while the EXCERIA series will write at 120MB/sec. They will allow digital camera users to shoot still images continuously at high speed.

The cards are the first in the EXCERIA line-up to integrate a newly developed controller compliant with UHS-II4 the ultra high speed serial bus interface defined in SD Memory Card Standard Ver. 4.10, and they achieve significantly higher data transfer speeds than earlier UHS-I compliant cards5.

While digital cameras have made huge strides in image quality and versatility, users have long wanted to see improvements in data transfer rates and write times, so as to be able to takes bursts of photographs in quick succession. This demand has grown increasingly strong as high performance digital single-lens reflex cameras and mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras have gained popularity and moved into the mainstream. Further advances in higher resolution image recording (including 4K2K video), will also fuel demand for transfers of data-rich images at high speed.

Looking to the future, Toshiba, a world leader in the NAND flash memory business, will continue to meet market demands by enhancing its line-up of UHS-II compliant SD memory cards.

I have tried about 10 different sd cards, ranging from good to bad and small to big. Nothing works. I have even tried licking the card.

Can this possibly be fixed without disassembling the camera, or would it have to be taken apart to be fixed? and if it does have to be taken apart would I end up having to replace the whole main board?

I am incredibly sad about my GH2, so any advice would make me happy. Thanks;)

p.s I will probably only be able to reply tomorrow as it's almost late now.

Multiple camera live event, streaming with PC, wireless HDMI solution and Starcraft. http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12148/multiple-camera-live-event-streaming-with-pc-wireless-hdmi-solution-and-starcraft. Sun, 11 Jan 2015 08:00:21 +0000 256colour 12148@/talks/discussions Hey. I've been lurking around here for years while toying with my gh2. Got some really valuable knowledge from here and made some fun artsy things for myself. Recently i have found myself a new ambition for my gh2.

For some years I’ve done local lanparties here in my little 1 million population country. There has been somewhere around 150 participants, we have played some older and newer games and it has been fun.

Last year i also did some streaming for event’s tournament (in estonian language) and got surprisingly quite few people watching. I got some feedback saying that it’s pretty fun and all that but there is something missing, it lacks a little bit of that „live“ effect. Unfortunately I’dont have much time to play these days, but I really want to do something extra for local community this year to add a little excitement.

So the plan I want to realize is like this:

Up to 2-3 cameras in sync with eachother, one of them totally wireless with video and sound. Commentary table with 2 mics, lavalier or headworn type which could be used in the schools halls and corridors where events usually take place. Create tv-show or sportslike viewer friendly experience with live editing.

The resources i have: ’Laptop with usb3 port. (haven’t bought yet, need one with good usb3 interface and nvidia chip) ’PC computer with usb3. ’Firewire camcorder hv20 with analog output (firewire connection has 3 secs of lag so can’t be used) ’GH2 ’H4N ’Firewire external sound card with 1 XLR and 2 Hi-Z line inputs (H4N can be connected through line input) ’1 lav mic(works only with h4n 3,5 input, not Hi-Z / line ones) ’Rode videomic

The budget i have is somewhere about 2000€. All gear must be availible for shipping to Estonia (no extra tax inside EU) The things i think i need to buy but are not totally sure about are:

’USB3 HDMI Capture card. It would be good if i could connect two cameras into one, or i might need to use 2 capture cards. But is that even possible? Does USB interface allow such bandwidth? ’Used camcorder with CLEAN hdmi output and usable as usb webcam. I know some Canon camcorders are useable with USB, but i don’t have any idea about delay’s and sync, would be very useful feature nonetheless. ’2 lavalier or headworn microphones for commentary table ’Wireless hdmi video and sound transmitter with minimal to no delay (uncompressed signal is a must?) ’External sound card with more inputs or analog mixer (h4n itself might be enough in some situations) 'usb webcam (do these things have delay?)

The programs used will be Open Broadcaster or Xsplit, but can also be something else if it’s not too expensive. I have done research about allmentioned things myself and later I try to post some of my own conclusions after i have sorted all the links. At the moment things feel a little overwhelming, but it’s ok. ;)

At the moment the thing I haven’t figured out is how will i be able to monitor the cameras if i should buy 2 capture cards. I want to avoid buying Blackmagic ATEM just for monitoring function. I need a some way to monitor capture card inputs without showing them on Xsplit stream window. Basically, I need to preview the camera feeds that you'd throw live before you switch to them. At the moment it’s not possible with Open Broadcaster, Xsplit has a preview scene function in beta 2.0 at the moment which can be a workaround i guess. But maybe there are some other program to monitor capture cards inputs? I think Wirecast supports it, if can’t find any workaround then I might be forced to buy it..

There is also an older thread with also some good discussion: http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6391/web-streaming-hdmi-recording-2-3ghxs/p1

I would be most grateful if you would share me your advice and knowledge to make this Starcraft dream of mine happen. = )

I was finishing a multicam project in Premiere CS6 and Premiere kept giving me errors and shutting down. Eventually the mac froze while in full screen preview in premier and I had to do a hard reset. after this the "saga" has begun...I could not even log in to the os. After checking HD, Putting back original ram,etc,etc...Everything else is fine but found out that is the Radeon that is the issue(not that card is bad but its the apple design that is plain wrong or quality control has been sedated before they release this model in a rush). After manually removing the radeon kexts I am back on line using just the motherboard intel HD3000 512mb. This emergency recovery effort came with a price of severe blue tint and lower resolution altogether plus the screen is at full intensity and it is not possible to adjust any of this, at least in the usual GUI way. Slowness is also an somehow issue(not severe as others report after the kexts fix)since I have 16gb of ram and strangely enough I can finish my project in premier without hiccups now!?! Since the computer runs on the default Intel HD 3000 video card why do I still have issues video/monitor. 512mb should be plenty to run things at a decent level meaning normal color profile etc. Not like before but c'mon the bare minimum should be covered! Any solutions/suggestions/ideas(like custom kexts, command lines, etc.) to resolve the issue will be greatly appreciated!

Here are some links to the issue(s):

AppleInsider:

"The problem, as highlighted by multiple threads on Apple’s Support Communities forum, first presents itself as a graphical glitch — or, in more serious cases, complete system lockup — when an affected MacBook Pro switches from the integrated Intel graphics chip to the discrete AMD graphics processing unit, or GPU. Reports of the issue first cropped up in February, but have become more frequent over the past month."

SD Card only shows 7 of 28 clips shot http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8648/sd-card-only-shows-7-of-28-clips-shot Sun, 03 Nov 2013 12:06:59 +0000 matt_gh2 8648@/talks/discussions Was recently shooting with GH2 (with Intravenus v2 using a Sandisk 64GB 95 MB/s) and I shot 28 clips. At one point, maybe halfway thru, I got a clip that wouldnt play back to watch in camera. I'm familiar with that type of error and this type of Sandisk card. But later, after taking more shots, I went to review a shot in the camera, and it only showed 7 clips. After the required freakout, I run, grab laptop, pop in SD card and all 28 of my clips are there safe and sound. Has anyone had that happen, and know how to prevent it from happening again. (Don't know if it's related but about 2 weeks ago, our project's cinematographer was doing test shots and she thought she lost a shot or two). Thanks in advance.

Retrieving Data from SD Card with bad sectors http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8838/retrieving-data-from-sd-card-with-bad-sectors Wed, 20 Nov 2013 19:47:29 +0000 JuMo 8838@/talks/discussions Hey everyone, today I had a monumental technical hiccup. I searched the forums here for similar stories, but mine seems to be a bit unique, so I thought I'd share it.

I spent about 4 hours this morning doing some foley and voice over work on location, I tested the audio after each take and it all played back just fine and sounded great (trusty H4n). When I got back to the editing suite and popped the card in, it took about 30 seconds for the card to pop up, which was my first red flag. Then I opened it up and it looked empty at first, then I literally watched the H4n file structure slowly appear before my eyes one folder at a time, second red flag. I attempted to copy the data over to my worktable drive and it started the visual indicators of a transfer process but never began the actual transfer. A left the work station alone for about 45 minutes and came back to a spinning wheel of death and discovered that finder had crashed without transferring a single bit or byte of the data. I tried to relaunch the crashed finder but it didn't reopen, I was left staring at my desktop backgrounds and nothing more and had to manually reboot the machine. This is where it got really fun. Now the machine would not boot up with the SD card inserted, it would just hang on the boot screen. I tried a few times, then powered down and removed the SD card and the machine started up fine. Then I put the SD card back in and the drive pops up, but as soon as I go to open it, finder crashes again. I can't even get far enough to see inside the folder anymore. Ok, so it's clearly a corrupt SD card and I'm ready to introduce it to it's new home: the garbage can, but first I need to attempt to retrieve any data I can to save me from asking my client to take another 4 hours to re-record all the audio (which, as you all probably know, is never as good the second time around). Not the end of the world if it comes to that, but I'd really rather not have to go that route, if it is at all possible to avoid. I tried the same card in a different card reader on a different work station and got basically the same results - unable to access the drive or data. So I started some research into data recovery software options and decided to give Stellar Pheonix Mac Data Recovery a try. Even the software couldn't see the drive in it's more common data backup and retrieval services, but I discovered could see a 'Generic 16GB SD' drive under the 'Image Creation' option, which it states is for exceptionally problematic corruptions. Basically it aims to create a mountable .DMG image containing every sector on the drive (including ones not in use). So I went for it. The software begins the sector processing on block 0, where it sits for about an hour. I was just about to give up and shut it down when all of a sudden it progresses, identifying block 0 as being fine, but block 1 as a bad block and continuing on, the next 30 blocks (700000 sectors) go by like a breeze, all fine, but then it gets stuck again around block 30. I'm going to leave it over night and sleep with my fingers crossed, but if anyone else has any insight or experience with a similar issue, please share your experience. I will update this thread tomorrow with results of the attempted data recovery, good or bad.

Sd card and hack patch combination? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8802/sd-card-and-hack-patch-combination Sun, 17 Nov 2013 15:25:21 +0000 Byhuge 8802@/talks/discussions I am new to the GH2 and the patches. It appears to be a lot of scattered info that is difficult pull together. So any help is greatly appreciated.

Here is my question... Which combination of SD card and patch work reliably together?

Here is my shooting scenario...

It will be mostly indoors (bar, bedroom), low light. I am using a Rokkor 1.4 50mm lense. We will use Adobe everything, on a Mac, for post.

The other big factor is that it will be screened in a theater. So quality is very important.

Thanks again as this camera is new thing for me and any advice is very welcome.

WARNING: Adobe Creative Cloud / Credit Card theft! http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8459/warning-adobe-creative-cloud-credit-card-theft Thu, 17 Oct 2013 03:27:42 +0000 Jasketti 8459@/talks/discussions I just got a call from my bank that my business credit card information (which was used to to pay Adobe cloud) has been stolen. I was advised to immediately close it.

Apparently it seems like a wise thing to do for anyone else whose card information has been given to adobe.

Sorry @Vitaliy_Kiselev I know there was a alredy a topic about Adobe CC hack incident but I thougth it would serve forum memebers well to give this it own to attract attention. Please feel free to move this it if thats a better option.
