So it would be good to indicate which would be the recommended models and in order of their cameras for video.

Thanks.

List of cameras and phones with recordable uncompressed HDMI output, and hacks to do so? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/19286/list-of-cameras-and-phones-with-recordable-uncompressed-hdmi-output-and-hacks-to-do-so Tue, 27 Mar 2018 11:47:41 +0000 mei 19286@/talks/discussions I would like to throw open this thread for people to post any cameras (even phones that sometimes have HDMI support over USB) that can output the camera/phone view over HDMI before the compression stage, and any hacks to allow them to do so? This allows recording through a device like the Black Magic Video Assistant series for high quality recording.

The sneaky thing which it appears that cameras often do, is give you the camera image as it appears afteral it has been downgraded and compressed. But there must still be some that give you the image before the compression engine, even in 4:2:2 with greater than 8 bits.

GH5 or A6500 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/17368/gh5-or-a6500 Wed, 19 Jul 2017 07:33:24 +0000 Manu4Vendetta 17368@/talks/discussions If you had to buy just one camera for photo and video (short films), what would you choose?. Although starting the A6500 is better for still photo than the GH5.

Thanks!

The Cameras Used by the 2015 Tribeca Filmmakers http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15284/the-cameras-used-by-the-2015-tribeca-filmmakers Mon, 27 Jun 2016 06:13:35 +0000 Manu4Vendetta 15284@/talks/discussions From indiewire.com

In advance of this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, Indiewire sent out brief questionnaires to all of the filmmakers (you can read their full answers in our Meet the 2015 Tribeca Filmmakers Series). As part of the questionnaire, we asked which camera(s) they shot on.

Their responses showed a wide variety of camera used – everything from drones to cellphones to the Swedish Ikonoskop, which is a digital camera meant to emulate the 16mm film look.

The most popular choices across the board were the ARRI ALEXA and RED Epic, as well as various models of Canon and Sony cameras. Almost all of the filmmakers produced their films digitally – the only films that specified having shot on film were "Franny," "Transfatty" and "Tumbledown."

We’ve arranged this master list alphabetically by camera – please note that some films used multiple cameras, so you’ll see a few repeats as you browse.

Help me to decide: Pilotfly H1 or Ipower 3-Axis http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12904/help-me-to-decide-pilotfly-h1-or-ipower-3-axis Fri, 01 May 2015 10:33:44 +0000 Manu4Vendetta 12904@/talks/discussions I need some inexpensive gimbal and Pilotfly H1 look like the best option for light cameras. The Ipower 3-Axis brushless gimbal its a very cheap option for U$498, but with few references. Virtually the 4000 Nebula is interesting, but seeing the tests isnt very convincing and in my country no stores that have these to test, so I have to choose the most suitable.

Im open to another options, but under U$700.

Thanks friends.

GH4 for theatrical feature films? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11909/gh4-for-theatrical-feature-films Fri, 05 Dec 2014 22:34:21 +0000 DouglasHorn 11909@/talks/discussions It looks like the GH4 is a big step forward, but is it ready for theatrical feature films--even low budget, limited releases?

I know it's a big advance on the GH2--which I think is pretty amazing for $600 but which I still wouldn't use on a feature even after Upstream Color. But if it has advanced enough, there's a lot to like about the GH4--low cost for high quality crash cams, low weight for aerials and Movi-type work. 4K, etc.

It you were helming a 500K-1M feature that had a tight BTL production budget but also high expectations in footage quality, would the GH4 be your choice?

The Raid 2: Berandal (BTS) http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10218/the-raid-2-berandal-bts Tue, 22 Apr 2014 00:03:56 +0000 Manu4Vendetta 10218@/talks/discussions The first part (The Raid: Redemption) was a success acclaimed by critics and the public. A good thriller movie along with its low budget and as remembered; recorded with the Panasonic AG-AF100 and GH2 (presumably) as B-cam.

The second part was recorded with Red Epic, Red Scarlet and GoPro HD Hero 3. But interesting all the work that's involved in the actual realization.

What's the oldest digital camera you have ready for shooting? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10020/whats-the-oldest-digital-camera-you-have-ready-for-shooting Tue, 01 Apr 2014 17:09:47 +0000 karl 10020@/talks/discussions While contemplating the fate of several unharmed yet no longer usable digital cameras I own, all of which just suffer from a lack of still usable proprietary batteries which are not sold anymore, I wondered what is the oldest digital camera that I own that is still "ready for shooting" at any time.

For me it is actually a Konica Minolta A2, for which I was clever enough to buy the 6-AA-battery accessory while it was still available. The A2's original LiIon battery has long died, but using the standard batteries the A2 is still a quite usable 8 MPixel camera to take where you wouldn't take anything of too much value with you. And the A2 is also one of the few digital cameras that are so "analog-camera-like-to-operate" that you can hand them even to 80+ aged people to take a photo with.

What's your oldest digital camera still ready for shooting?

Lenses to use with GH4 / 4K Cameras http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9575/lenses-to-use-with-gh4-4k-cameras Sun, 09 Feb 2014 13:37:30 +0000 JanH 9575@/talks/discussions I'm pretty excited about the potential of the GH4 (and I suppose any other 4K cameras at $2,000 or so). I am currently using the GH13, mainly in 720p mode with a variety of legacy full frame lenses. Canon FD, Minolta MD, Nikon, Helios, Pentax etc. These all produce a lovely image, less clinical than the Panasonic 14-140 kit lens, IMHO.

Now with 4k coming along, I'm wondering if these older lenses will have any chance of producing the detailed images that the higher resolution sensors are capable of. Or, whether the way forward would be to use an RJ or Metabones speed booster with these lenses to get the detail/ resolution? It would be a shame to not be able to get the benefits of 4k unless using m43 lenses.

Does anyone have any experience, or opinions on this subject? I'd appreciate any comments.

Understanding Camera Optics & Smartphone Camera Trends http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6257/understanding-camera-optics-smartphone-camera-trends Tue, 26 Feb 2013 09:19:57 +0000 endotoxic 6257@/talks/discussions A Presentation by Brian Klug:

"Since we’re talking about a smartphone we must understand the imaging chain, and thus block diagram, and how the blocks work together. There’s a multiplicative effect on quality as we move through the system from left to right. Good execution on the optical system can easily be mitigated away by poor execution on the ISP for example. I put arrows going left to right from some blocks since there’s a closed loop between ISP and the rest of the system."

ARRI ALEXA Camera Simulator, F65 Camera Simulator http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3445/arri-alexa-camera-simulator-f65-camera-simulator Fri, 01 Jun 2012 17:00:25 +0000 Philldaagony 3445@/talks/discussions Saw these a little while back, and finally got around to playing around with them. ARRI has an ALEXA simulator that lets users go through the entire MENU system of the ALEXA. Sony has a similar offering, and both ARRI and Sony's simulators are available for download as apps as well I believe.

ARRI offer simulators for the ALEXA and ALEXA plus. http://www.arri.de/camera/digital_cameras/tools/alexa_camera_simulator.html

Sony's simulator is available as a Remote iPad application that allows operators to control the f65 over a Wi-Fi network. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/f65remote/id497318839?mt=8

Canon also has C300 simulator for those interested.... http://learn.usa.canon.com/resources/articles/Simulators/c300.shtml?categoryId=229

Canon EOS 1D-C. is it worth it (MJPEG@4K + $15,000) http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2879/canon-eos-1d-c.-is-it-worth-it-mjpeg4k-15000- Sun, 15 Apr 2012 23:41:54 +0000 TrackZillas 2879@/talks/discussions I would like to know your thoughts about the new Canon EOS 1D-C. Is it worth the buy? Yeah!!! sure 4K on a DLSR is impressive, but MJPEG compression 8bit 422 squeezing all that information took a good amount of compression. Why not 2k Raw 12bit 444 instead? Let me know also what you feel about the price point... would you pay $15,000?

Look at video at http://www.zacuto.com/the-great-camera-shootout-2011/episode-one

I, personally, do not like both selection, approach and procedure of this shootout.
But it is interesting to watch.]]>
