HG3D Gimbal for GH4 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15970/hg3d-gimbal-for-gh4 Mon, 31 Oct 2016 10:29:29 +0000 Irfan 15970@/talks/discussions I am looking for cheap two hand gimbal solution for my Lumix GH4. Right now Im looking HG3D Gimbal. I like top hand held for lower angles. Joysticks on side for vertical and horizontal control seems not ergonomic. But I would not use them as much. There is no much video reviews with it so Im interested if anyone used it before. Are there any special requirements to install battery on it? Thinking to use it with GH4 + 12-35mm 2.8 lens. Thanks

FS : Came Mini 1 3 Axis Stabiliser http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15092/fs-came-mini-1-3-axis-stabiliser Thu, 19 May 2016 03:26:13 +0000 Sph1nxster 15092@/talks/discussions Came Mini Version 1 for sale - UK seller

Includes:

Came Mini Stabiliser Balance Stand Carry Case (Padded) Joystick Control 8 x 18650 batteries (large capacity)

Does not include original charger as in my opinion it is not safe to use. Would recommend buyer purchases a D4 Digicharger (£30) Batteries are fully charged so it could be used straight out of the case.

I have modified the PID settings very slightly in the following way:-

  • I have changed the joystick control to allow tilt up and down and left and right roll (default is tilt and pan)
  • I have increased power very slightly to try and reduce the amount of bounce and on the setup shown in the picture this proved to be very successful
  • I added callibration modes to user settings 4 & 5 for on the fly re-callibration when needed.

These settings can be reversed with a little knowledge of the SimpleBGC software and I would be more than happy to assist potential buyer with this. However, I personally feel these settings make it better and much more usable for run and gun type situations.

Some examples of the gimbal in use can be found in all these films:-

  • ( 45 seconds )

£425 - please PM

Thanks, Steve

Allsteady 6 and Gimbal Modes http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12870/allsteady-6-and-gimbal-modes- Sat, 25 Apr 2015 10:58:16 +0000 melf31 12870@/talks/discussions Hey everyone, thanks in advance for your answers. I'm currently in the market for a 3 axis gimbal and the AllSteady 6 has come up as a potential good option for me. I'm also eagerly awaiting the Ronin M but once you've added the joystick its going to come in about $800 over what I can get the Allsteady 6 for.

There aren't many review (or any really) for the all steady but from what I can tell it seems pretty limited in terms of having access to different modes. There are 5 modes which are pre-programmed to:

User Setting 1: Lighter configurations with full follow. (e.g. Panasonic GH4 and the Sony A7S/A6000) User Setting 2: Medium configurations with full follow. (e.g. Canon 5D Mark ii/iii camera with up to 24-70mm & 24-105mm lenses) User Setting 3: Heavier configurations with full follow. (e.g. Canon 5D Mark ii/iii camera with up to 70-200mm & Red Scarlet/Epic/Dragon which requires optional extension brackets or cage upgrades.) User Setting 4: Lighter configurations with disabled joystick under multirotor or with optional wireless joystick to work on top of tripods or under crane. User Setting 5: Medium configurations with disabled joystick under multirotor or with optional wireless joystick to work on top of tripods or under crane.

Their idea being that once you receive the gimbal you'll never have to adjust any PID settings since they have presets that should have you covered. However what this means in reality is that you only really have 2 modes to use - "full follow" and "Wireless joystick". Your other 3 modes are taken up with presets for cameras you may or may not use. And if you're operating a heavier camera then its just one mode!

I called Turbo Ace about this and they said they would pre-program any mode(s) you needed for your order, but that would take up one of the 5 slots. That would be fine if you knew what camera you'd be flying for your duration of your ownership of the gimbal but if, say 6 months down the line, you change cameras and you go up or down a weight bracket you'd have to send the gimbal back to Turbo Ace for them to re-program the gimbal. They'd charge for this a rate of something like $150 per hour.

Now I've never owned or operated a gimbal before but it seems a bit strange to me to be kinda locked in to what ever you have when you order the gimbal, unless you're willing to pay up. It would be great to know from other Gimbal owners if the "full follow" mode is enough. The gimbal comes with a thumb joystick btw.

Are any AllSteady 6 owners who can give some feedback on their experience so far?

Thanks

Steadicams vs 3 Axis Gimbals http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12551/steadicams-vs-3-axis-gimbals Mon, 09 Mar 2015 00:26:10 +0000 sidecar 12551@/talks/discussions Since the more expensive of the former, such as Blackbird, are comparable cost to cheaper part assembled CAME units. Is it safe to say the older fly-cam/glide-cam type devices have proven inferior to 'active' 3 axis gimbals? In considering purchasing stabilisation for m43rds GH4, where Im shooting quite short takes around 8 seconds of pans and very short track and travels, have 3 axis gimbals made a Fait accompli of older designs?

GH4 2-axis digital level is wrong http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11860/gh4-2-axis-digital-level-is-wrong Thu, 27 Nov 2014 19:18:23 +0000 Steven 11860@/talks/discussions I got my new GH4 from B&H yesterday and the 2-axis digital level is incorrectly reporting the horizon level. If I set it on a table, it reports the horizon level as being somewhat off balance while the GH3's level is proper. I tried resetting everything and the problem, defect, or glitch still exists. I believe the firmware version is 1.1; if there's a newer one, I could try updating, but I have doubts it'll fix the problem. Has anyone experienced this problem? Any suggestions? It looks like I may have to send it back and exchange it for a replacement.
