I'm a new GH-2 owner just starting to get my feet wet. Which means I'll probably say or write something stupid pretty frequently. Looking to take advantage of some bits of glass I have laying about; I'm itching to play with my trusty Switar 1.6 10mm on the GH-2. Are there any warnings / suggestions you can offer regarding my choice of adapter? I've already sent one back (cheap e-bay junk) that was poorly machined and would not fully rotate so it would lock, so the camera complained... Thanks in advance! Dave

Using OCT-18/OCT-19 lenses on an M4/3 camera? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1179/using-oct-18oct-19-lenses-on-an-m43-camera Thu, 13 Oct 2011 20:25:25 -0400 Gabel 1179@/talks/discussions
This really intrigued me. After all, those lenses looks AMAZING from what I've seen picture-wise. What I want to know is how they are to use? From what I understand, there is no way to use them on a follow focus... I might be able to live with that, if the rest works. Also, I understand Ciecio7 is the best adapter to get for these, right? Question is basically, how much hassle is it? Is it worth it?

I should add that these are spherical, not anamorphics, but still!]]>

Most wanted ANAMORPHIC lens http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4466/most-wanted-anamorphic-lens Tue, 04 Sep 2012 15:35:25 -0400 slrmagic 4466@/talks/discussions Dear All,

We have received 4 email requests from members of this forum on the possibility of designing an Anamorphic lens. We had this thought for the past year and did a lot of research. There is one common request which is to have horizontal flares. The others requests did not have any common grounds. We came up with an idea for a 25mm f/3.2 1.35x or 35mm f/3.2 1.35x Anamorphic lens for micro four thirds. Shooting at 16:9 would give a 2.40:1 anamorphic output. Just before we decided to go ahead with the project we had a second thought. 2 Years ago we asked openly on dpreview.com forum for what photographers wanted and the general consensus was our SLR Magic HyperPrime 12mm T1.6 lens.

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1041&message=36104678

It did not fulfill the needs and wants of everyone but we made what most people agreed on by means of a discussion. It ended up being a popular lens that we still are having problems meeting demand and we think it had a big part to do with asking photographers. If we did not ask around we probably made a 12mm f/2.8 lens. As it turned out quite well last time we want to make our next lens an open discussion again.

Here are some of the possible options we received and please feel free to throw in extra ideas. I hope people experienced with shooting in Anamorphic can also throw in ideas.

Anamorphic Adapter (1.33x, 1.5x, 1.75x, 2x) Dedicated mFT Anamorphic adapter for reasonable size Anamorphic adapter compatible with FF lenses 50mm f/2.8 Anamorphic lens (FF, APS-C, or mFT) Expected MSRP (Sad fact but it as direct correlation to IQ)

Kind rgds., SLR Magic Team

P.S. We will be at Photokina 2012 and would like to welcome any cinematographers with Anamorphic lens ideas to drop by our booth for idea exchange! We will be in Hall 3.1 B059

Fotga Nikon G to m4/3 adapter http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6006/fotga-nikon-g-to-m43-adapter Mon, 04 Feb 2013 11:17:47 -0500 inqb8tr 6006@/talks/discussions I have bought this one on Dx for 20$ something, shipped from Hong Kong.

If you need any more details read on.

When I attached Tokina 11-16 to it, first thing I noticed is very tight fit, no wobble at all, between lens and adapter, and between adapter and GH2 as well. That is the only good thing about it.

Lens does not focus to infinity, actually it does not focus at all, somewhere in the middle the focus scale it does, but it is useless. Than I measured it and it is 0.8mm smaller than the Voigtlander Nikon F - m43/ that I have.

Then I tried to hack/fix the adapter. I have made some kind of nano washers, drilled tiny holes in pieces of metal around 0.5mm thick and inserted them on small screws in between lens mount ring and adapter body. That way I've increased flange distance to the point where lens could focus to infinity (and beyond :)).

But the small screw in the adapter that pushes the aperture lever of the lens now got 0.5mm above the lever, so I had to push something on that too to make it working.

After that I proudly attached the lens and gotten outside only to find out that I have enormous light leaks inside the adapter. The pin that holds Nikon lens has a HOLE to clear it's lever when pushing it. When the pin gets in the lens, hole gapes open. Great thing for lens whacking light leaks experiments.

Then I wrapped some velcro cable ties around, to prevent light from entering the adapter.

Aperture control ring on the adapter is off by few degrees, so it does not reach it's lock position at 'open' side. So i had to unscrew the lens from the adapter for few degrees to allow that ring to open the aperture all the way. So the lens does not click to the adapter, but that tight fit and cable ties hold it quite well.

Now it works.

What a waste of money and time.

EOS to m43 adapters topic http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5754/-eos-to-m43-adapters-topic Sat, 12 Jan 2013 12:34:45 -0500 silvertonesx24 5754@/talks/discussions I've seen a few threads concerning different aperture adjustment EOS adapters. I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a non-aperture adjustment EOS to m43 adapter (don't need it) that fits solidly with no wiggle. I have the Fotsay one which is a $20 Amazon one and I really hate how the EOS lens wiggles on the adapter. Can any recommend one that is nice and solid with no wiggle?

His expedited shipping charges are a bit steep and there is no information on tracking facility or delivery times. I am hesitating because of that. Any other good ones which guarantees infinity focus?

Nikon F to m43 adapters http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2492/nikon-f-to-m43-adapters Mon, 05 Mar 2012 15:57:31 -0500 WarrantyVoided 2492@/talks/discussions The go-to shop for good adapters, ciecio7, unfortunately does not list a Nikon F to MFT adapter. I did send some questions, but unfortunately I did not receive any answer. Apparently they do exist, Grue has one, but I can't sit and wait for years to come. I did consider getting some Canon to MFT, but this leaves the issue of a solid Nikon to Canon adapter, preferably one which allows to change aperture by means of a ring or so. (There do exist adapters with a confirm chip, but with the Canon to MFT this won't work anyway.)

Does somebody know another seller which offers the cheaper adapters, but has a solid check to deliver consistent adapters? I'd love to get an adapter with aperture control (manual of course) and a tripod mount.

How do you adjust your c-mount lenses to have proper focus to infinity? I thought I just have to buy a precisely machined adapter and all those lenses will fit just how they should. Now I own about 5 different c-mount adapters (latest is the METABONES adapter) and non of them seam to match the required flange back. Do you have to loosen all those tiny screws on the lens and adjust it to your camera/adapter??

Oct-19 to m43 adapters topic http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5050/oct-19-to-m43-adapters-topic Wed, 31 Oct 2012 07:02:15 -0400 Jean71 5050@/talks/discussions I just shoot a couple offers to a well known (for the adapter's quality) seller, and he refused my $320 final offer.

His price on ebay was $450, but with the "make a proposal" option, and the adapter had a support bracket.

I understand the Lomo prices madness (I just bought a set of lens for ridicolous price here in Italy, that was luck), but i would like yours opinion about spending $450 for an adapter. And this seller is the factory, no middle men in the business.

I bought from him an oct-18 mount when he haven't the "make an offer" yet, that makes, in my opinion, a factory less serious. The fact is, i saw another seller from same country, and maybe i'll go for a less expensive one.

The bottom line is: people here works for free to do the best things for MFT, and other people are making money on this.

I hope that some factory in China will join the adapter business, i bought from pchood here (Cinematics) and you see you're dealing with serious people. Please share your thougths.

@Vitaliy_Kiselev Do you think we will have MFT adapters from China? It could be lovely :-)
