I also used a 5D Mark III with Magic Lantern for some Glidecam shots.

5d Mark iii ML Raw or Gh5? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/17334/5d-mark-iii-ml-raw-or-gh5 Wed, 12 Jul 2017 02:23:07 +0000 soulofrev2 17334@/talks/discussions Has anyone used both 5d Mark iii Raw and the Gh5 for video work? Im going to buy one but I cant decide which?

I had a Blackmagic Cinema Camera which i sold, though I loved the image!

I had a Sony 6300 which I sold, im not getting on with Sonys that much.

Im seeing some really good footage with the Gh5.

But I still keep coming back to Canon ML raw, which has such a great image.

So do I go for a Gh5 with a speed booster or a 5d mark iii??

Thanks

Chris :)

Canon5D Mk III 4k Magic Lantern http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16675/canon5d-mk-iii-4k-magic-lantern Sat, 01 Apr 2017 20:38:00 +0000 JanH 16675@/talks/discussions I just found this over on Andrew Reid's site. Initially thought it might be an April fool's joke - but apparently not. The images from the camera look amazing (my non-technical evaluation!).

http://www.eoshd.com/2017/04/super-35mm-4k-comes-canon-5d-mark-iii-new-magic-lantern-module-real/

The Canon 5D Mark III will now record 4K, raw thanks to A1ex and his team at ML. The resolutions available are: 1920×960 @ 50p (both 1:1 crop and full-frame – 3×3 pixel binning) 1920×800 @ 60p (same as above) 1920×1080 @ 45p and 48p (3×3 binning) 1920×1920 @ 24p (1:1 square crop) 3072×1920 @ 24p (1:1 crop) 3840×1600 @ 24p (1:1 crop) 4096×2560 @ 12.5p (1:1 crop) 4096×1440 @ 25p (1:1 crop)

Limitations currently exist, of course (no sound is recorded and B/W display) but recording time seems very useful (no limits quoted, if they exist.)

Just a short video shot Sunday Early AM pre dawn and thru magic hour, Wanted to test out Magic Lantern RAW on my Mark iii. And see how it handles these conditions. Some very impressive things for a camera in this class. And with a little finesse and production values it could shine with cameras two-four times its price. This was shot with three lenses on a 5d Mark iii. The downloaded version is much better than the Vimeo encode, so please watch their for a more accurate representation (no banding).

Canon 24-105L Canon 70-200L Rokinon 14mm

No gear except camera tripod and lenses. Hope to do some more creative uses coming up.

Color graded and edited in Davinci Resolve Lite using a mix of Cinelog LUTs, and Vision Color LUTs. Very light noise reduction on the early shots applied with neat video, and a small level of grain added throughout the video to give it a a little filmish kick. Download original to get a much better idea of grain appeal. I myself have come from GH2 land and so the raw experience has been a joy. I personally enjoy the color grading process so it is very nice to have all the latitude and detail to work with.

Any comments or questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Enjoy.

He will start to shoot a feature film with a lot of night scenes. He is now in Europe and wants to buy the lenses here. I thought of Leica R Summilux, Zeiss or Voigtlaender, maybe the Minolta 58mm 1.2?. But as a GH2 user I don't really know what works well on a 5D MKII. Anyone could give me some advice? Does the Metabones adapter work onthe 5D?

We shot on 5DMKII RAW and Zeiss Planar & Distagon Primes only. The movie is now applying in all major film festivals in germany, therefore I can only publish a trailer for now. I added English subtitles for your convenience.

I am happy to hear your thoughts! :)

Grading MTS vs. ProRes converted files on OS X: is there a concensus? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7298/grading-mts-vs.-prores-converted-files-on-os-x-is-there-a-concensus Wed, 19 Jun 2013 11:14:14 +0000 Alienhead 7298@/talks/discussions I just started grading my footage with Premiere CS6 after using Final Cut Pro for a long time. I had been converting all my files to ProRes using 5D to RGB, which was the original recommendation of Andrew Reid on EOSHD. Then more recently he said it wasn't necessary to do that anymore because there's a fix in Premiere where you increase input and output levels to 15 and 235 respectively http://www.eoshd.com/content/8612/mac-avchd-gamma-issues-the-fix

In an AVCHD timeline in Premiere Pro CS6, I imported two clips, one the original MTS and the other a converted ProRes of that clip. But the result was not fixed by only 15 and 235 input/output adjustment, it required something closer to 40 and 215. And that did not mean that the result was the same, there was still more blue in the highlights and shadows in the MTS vs. the ProRes. Further adjustment would be needed, but the ProRes conversion was more balanced.

This was just my first test, and I'm no expert in this, but it seems like conversion to ProRes still makes sense. What are other people's take on this?

Wed, 31 Oct 2012 16:09:35 +0000 blackspot 5057@/talks/discussions Hi! Im proud to present this musicvideo shot with GH2 (Sedna) as A-CAM and Canon 5DmkIII as B-cam. Its a bit bigger scale project than other ive seen here. I really love my GH2 as it gives much better detail and very pleasent colors compared to MK3. Its pretty easy to spot the detail difference between these two cams. Kipon m43 adapter with Zeiss and Canon lenses were used. Hack used was Sedna. Big thanks to VK and Driftwood!

Watch from YouTube as "Original quality".

GH2 Canon Speedgrade LUTs http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5605/gh2-canon-speedgrade-luts Fri, 28 Dec 2012 21:25:31 +0000 DrDave 5605@/talks/discussions I'm wondering i someone familiar with Speedgrade can give me some pointers on how to use a Macbeth Color chart to easily match my GH2 footage with my Canon Cameras.

What I envision as a workflow would be the following--use a preset from each cam, not a custom WB, so anyone could use these Look Up Tables, then shoot some scenes with the Macbeth Color chart, using the same chart and lighting for each cam, and then finally just put the numbers online. I suppose an even better solution would be to somehow convert these LUTs into Cineform values so we could bypass Speedgrade altogether.

The result would be that one could open a preset, say "incandescent" in the GH2 and 5D MK2, or pro camcorder, then just apply the LUT. And anyone could use the LUT because it uses the preset WB in the Cams, which presumably are the same for every user.

Anyone in the world could then use these LUTs.

Problem with TASCAM DR-100 work with 5D2 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5370/problem-with-tascam-dr-100-work-with-5d2 Tue, 04 Dec 2012 02:53:02 +0000 Shome 5370@/talks/discussions Before I ask my question, I did look into a lot post here. But still I found my problem it's like a bug in my 5D2.

I try to find a good solution for sound in my 5D, just for some normal interview( could be in the studio and any place clients are). Before I used HDV to get some sound, 5Dget image, and sync in post with pluraleyes. But I found a lot people do get better solution. Now I try to learn it.

So what I'm trying to do is just get the quality sound directly into my 5D2, without post work with pluraleyes. My buddies are: TASCAM DR-100, SONY UWP-V1(Radio mic),Audio Technica AT897, also got Rode NTG-1(but this one no AA power supply). 5D2(hacked with Magic Lantern 2.3)

First, I try sony radio mic directly plugin to 5D, it's reasonable sound for event interview stuff, but definite not really good quality, as 5D doesn't have good sound handling ability( I guess).

Then I get this TASCAM thing.(A lot people use H4n, i guess similar thing). Tascam has 2 XLR input, So I use sony radio mic and AT897 (both powered by themselves). My tascam get decent sound these two mic. I used tascam's 3.5 line output, send the sound to 5D's 3.5 mic input. monitor the 5D's sound through AV mount. (wiki ML says we will need a RCA-3.5 adapter, i didn't see that before so i just plugin my 3.5 headphone in to that AV end, it works, I did get the sound there, amazing! ) It worked for a while but I don't when it suddenly just can only get one track, only left channel, there is no infos came into right channel. No matter what i try on all the settings in the ML menu, I can't get that right channel back...

Can anyone help me figure this out?

ColorGHear TOOLKIT- color grading SYSTEM for AE http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1817/colorghear-toolkit-color-grading-system-for-ae Thu, 22 Dec 2011 22:41:24 +0000 shian 1817@/talks/discussions
So as not to be misleading, ColorGHear is an add-on of MODULAR PRESETS, and not a true plug-in.

The toolkit isn't just a collection of drag and drop "looks." It is a series of modular presets, or nodes, specially designed to contend with the codec limitations native to HDSLR footage. Along with these modular nodes, comes a system of use - learned through the online tutorials - which will open up the full power and functionality of After Effects to absolute beginners as well as long time users. Doing so will give users amazing power and flexibility to reduce noise and artifacts, and apply vibrant, astounding color grading to DSLR footage. In short, ColorGHear transforms After Effects from a Animation and Compositing tool, into a Color Grading Monster!

The power of ColorGHear is presented in the video demonstrations below.

ColorGHear is available at http://www.ColorGHear.com

CGT retails for $50

With your purchase of ColorGHear, you will get a free subscription to my video tutorial series showing how to unleash the power of After Effects using ColorGHear to turn your footage into stunning, film-like images.

As of July 1st, 2012 CGT will only be available under a subscription plan. $50 will get you CGT and access to all Grading and Filmschool tutorials for one year. If you choose not to renew, you can keep the GHears, but will lose access to the tutorials, and oh, the tutorials I have yet to show you. (Yes, a mild Hellraiser reference)

All of you who currently have CGT or buy it before July 1st, 2012 will be grandfathered in (no annual subscription rate for the current "CGT for AFX" version....ever. I did say early adopters would be rewarded, did I not?)

Subscription plans for other platforms will vary. Those currently in development are Davinci Resolve and Premiere Pro. And while CGT won't really work in FCP X there will be tutorials for getting the most out of the grading tools in FCP X, as well as creation and integration of SpeedGrade LUTs into AFX. '

Also, as I promised, all CGT Members will get discounted prices on versions for other platforms.

Below is a link to our special deals portal, which will change often, and without notice. Some days you will come here and find fantastic deals on ColorGHear products, and on other days you'll find no deals at all. We reserve the right to offer our products at our set price, and give discounts when we see fit. If you come here and see a price lower than what you paid for a product we will not offer any kind of rebate or refund. It's the beauty and wonder of chance at work.
