Importing Cameras to EU Cheaply?

Has anyone had any experience with importing the cameras offered on this forum, or other sites. into the EU? Is it a good idea to use a UK based forwarding service instead of importing directly to one's own country to save money on customs? Thanks for any experiences on this. cheers!
