Whats the most stable gh2 patch, plus where can I learn about the patches?

I have a gh2 andI want to hack it. I just dont want to use a patch someone made, but I want to pacth it myself. I heard stuff like certain pacthes wont span, I need to know what this means, and what pacthes NOT to use.
so what is the most stable all around patch, the defacto one that has been proven to be stable with users of the internet?0
