GH2 Possible Improvements
  • This topic is dedicated to improvements of GH2 firmware you would like to see.

Here is list of previous collected suggestions - http://www.gh1-hack.info/wiki/GH2ImprovementsList

  • Obviously higher bitrate :)

Also, it'd be cool to be able to control the "Zebra bar" function. Rather than it blinking at 100%, it would be cool if you could pick a percentage for highlights to start blinking at.
  • I don't know if it is possible but:
i had a canon compact camera (sx200) and i was able, with chdk hacked firmware to select a wider range range of iso settings than with the original firmware, also iso 10 for example. If it is possible it should be one of the greatest improvement (no need of ND filter). Obviously the most important improvement now is 25p, but also the af tracking during video.

    Thank you so much Vitaliy!
  • It would also be nice to have the ex tele convertor function while recording
  • A simple ETC enhancement would be instant switching when the function is assigned to an Fn key. Right now you have to OK the change with an ON/OFF menu, which is a total waste of time.

    Yes, it'll be nice.
But only after dumping and reversing we'll know if this is possible.

I see pluses and minuses here. And perfectly understand that accident key press can ruin your shot if you make it instant.
  • it would be great: after focusing with touch (in video mode) - return to normal mode after two-four seconds, without half-pressing the shutter button. sorry for bad english)

Well no, because you can't change the setting during the shot anyway. And I doubt this could be changed, as it probably involves changing the sensor mode and that would cause a glitch. So the ON/OFF menu is pointless.

    Is it so important then?
As changing logic here could be not so easy as it looks on first sign :-)

Yes, because I often toggle the setting during Live View to see if the zoom would work for a shot. Having to go through a pointless menu defeats the convenience of the Fn key. So it should just toggle : ).

Of course Panny should fix this themselves, but I guess they're not rushing to release firmware updates ; ).
  • @_gl

All I wanted to say is that this fix can be surprisingly large.
  • ect mode at higher ress would be nice having 3k or something.... also using 2/3 sensor mode would open posibilities to new lenses
  • HI Vitaliy, (posted this on DVX also - please feel free to ignore one or the other)
Is 25p for the HDMI output possible/reasonable?
    Best
    LW
  • I think that it is possible. But.
We don't know anything today. I could tell something about this after dumping.
I know that 25p is top priority :-)
  • That's right. 25p is absolutely top priority. Then bitrate :)
  • Why in the name of all things good did Panasonic disable ETC mode while HDMI socket is in use? Can the processor not handle it or something?
Waiting for you to do your magic, V :)
  • yes. give us 25p
  • I'd be happy with just increased bit rates in 1080/24p mode. :)
  • +1 25p, increased bitrate, plus fixed gamma shift when recording. Best wishes for the project.
  • Gamma shift is impossible to fix, most probably, as Panasonic cameras use different sensor modes in preview and recording.
  • 4x3 (1440x1080) mode in order to shoot 2.66:1 footage with 2x anamorphic lenses (or classic academy ratio with spherical).
  • i second that. nice to see you here Oedipax!
  • I think its SF for Gh2 but what about electronic stabilization in crop mode ?
  • >electronic stabilization in crop mode

What do you mean under this?
If something like stabilizers used in cheap cameras then it won't be possible, of course. As it is always special hardware in cameras. If you look at software plugins that do similar things in post you'll see how demanding they are.
  • I think I not thought about that :). Forgive me,today I'm a little distracted :)
  • What about this : possibility to record 4 channels of sound : 2 from external mic and 2 from internal ?
