VK: Dual-body 3D Rig: rotate sensor scanning 90/270deg?

I've been shooting 3D video & stills with my dual-body 'GH2-3DD' for a while now. The results are stunning - but I'm now working on a project for large-screen projection (5m wide) and the large inter-axial (separation between lenses) from a side-by-side mount creates excessive 'deviation' (horizontal offset between objects). It's basically unviewable.

Beamsplitter rigs (aka mirror boxes) are the usual solution, but they have many problems: 1+stop light loss, large & heavy, issues with polarized light, fragile mirror etc.

A better solution to bring the lenses closer together is to mount the bodies vertically - but it's no good for video (portrait format + rolling shutter is scanning in opposing directions, a no-no for 3D). So the question @Vitaliy_Kiselev, is there any chance the sensor setup can be changed to reverse the X/Y scanning? So 1920x1080 becomes 1080x1920.

The shutter would also need to roll left->right on one body, and right->left on the other. ie. sensor scanning is 90 degrees rotated on one body, 270 on the other.

Interesting thing
Based on All Winner A10 - new processor released in the China market about two months ago.

As it can play 2160p video and output it at correct format supported by 3D TVs via HDMI.
Right now only latest NVidia and AMD cards do it in hardware, and no brand tablets can do it (Windows AMD based tablets can do only 1080p).
Plus it is cheap.

I've been doing quite a bit of work with full-spectrum shooting in 3D. One of my rigs uses 2 GH1s with the sensor stack modified for full-spectrum sensitivity. Here's a little sample:

Remote control for 3D

Vitaliy, if I remember well, some time ago you have developed a hack version which allowed using remote control AND external mike. I think that there were some problems with one bricked body so that hack version was removed. On the other hand, when using 3D setups, we must use remote controls. This also means that in 3D we can never use external mikes.

Is there any chance that the previous hack version can be corrected and external mikes used also for 3D shooting?

Moreover, some interesting features can be used in other modes except Movie (M) mode. In those modes the video can be started by pressing dedicated movie button. However, as we are limited to use of remote control, we cannot use those other modes, since remote control would trigger taking a picture instead of video. Is there any possibility (within the hack by using some menu setting) to trigger "movie button" by the remote control?

Hello GH1 3D fans! I have been granted permission to film "over the shoulders" of the 2D crew on a new reality series to be aired on satellite TV in the fall. This is a "racing" show with VERY fast cars and will be shot on the track as well as in the pits and in the garage.

I am looking for fellow enthusiasts to help me so I can film next month. I have two hackable GH1 cameras with class 10 cards and am using Vegas 10 (or premiere) and will be using a homemade beamsplitter rig as well as some GoPro 3d cams and my standard external audio stuff. My footage won't be aired, but will be made available on DVD and online.

I have spent days on the DVXForum and am just overwhelmed! I already have a good understanding of basic 2D filming and editing and have been experimenting with 3D for over 20 years so I understand the mechanics of stereoscopy. Any technical help specific to my needs will be appreciated:) I'd like to include you in the credits as well as consider other arrangements for your participation to complete this project successfully.

1. I need help hacking the cameras in a simple "step by step process" so that they film reliably in a standard frame size, frame rate and bit rate so I can burn 3D DVDs and hopefully broadcast the footage someday on 3Dtv if I am so lucky. How would you do it?

2. I need tips for syncronizing these cameras. What equipment, cables and techniques should I use?

3. I need to understand codecs such as AVCHD, MJPEG, H264 etc and need advice on editing, rendering and burning... compression options etc. I will be creating DVDs in various formats such as anaglyph, field sequential and side by side at half width and full width. I may also put 3d trailors on YouTube. Maybe someday I may even experiment with burning 3D BluRay.

4. I need help understanding what "pulldown" means, benefits of using various codecs, frame rates, bitrates etc. I don't want my footage to be rejected or unuseable for DVDs simply because I filmed using the wrong codec or settings. They have requested that I film in HD according to USA "broadcast standards".

5. I need advice on lenses. I currently use the stock 14-140 and 14-42.
