If any of you are employed by Lucasfilm you'd likely just grin and say no comment, but for the rest of us (ok, I mean me) there is some degree of curiosity on the production side. I've read (not seen) about "experiences" already projected(?) held(?) at festivals, but what I want to know is how is this shit DONE? What carries over and what doesn't? I can imagine reasonable adjustments in pre-production, but I draw a blank in production.

Like, I don't know, can you still use a crane? No? Do they make invisible drones? No? Ok. You get my point. How do you do stuff? Lighting? "Framing" (used loosely)? Is there anything resembling a process, method? Editing and post: Jump-cuts? Montage? Continuity? What do they do to immersion now that the viewer is part of the "world"?

Coming soon to your Oculus Quest! Hm, ok, I'll buy one when it comes out. Business model? Content niches that will make money? Porn, I know. What else? Education?

PanoClip - 360-degree smartphone lens http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/19834/panoclip-360-degree-smartphone-lens Thu, 07 Jun 2018 03:18:12 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 19834@/talks/discussions

PanoClip Lets You Shoot 360° and 'Tiny Planets' from Your Phone for $49.99

image

The groundbreaking PanoClip launched today, letting anyone effortlessly take 360° photos and "Tiny Planet" shots straight from their phone. Using a cleverly designed dual-lens system, PanoClip snaps instantly onto a smartphone, and then creates a seamless 360° photo by combining images from the front and rear cameras.

Available today to iPhone users for $49.99 USD, PanoClip is the first device of its kind. It pairs perfectly with the cameras people use most -- their phones -- and makes 360° capture easier than ever before. An Android version will be available soon.

Introducing PanoClip:

How It Works

Traditional 360° cameras use two or more cameras to capture all angles of a scene, before stitching them together into a single image. PanoClip works on the same principle, but thanks to some ingenious tech, it achieves the same result with the two cameras that are likely already in your pocket.

Using PanoClip could not be simpler. Snapping it onto the top of a phone will align its super-wide-angle lenses with the phone's front and rear cameras. Then, all that's left to do is open up the companion app and start taking 360° snapshots.

PanoClip users will never miss a detail, and they'll easily capture vibrant, dynamic scenes with action in every direction, such as music festivals or parties. When users want to focus on a particular part of the action, the screenshot feature lets them re-frame the best angles.

Sharing is effortless, with integrated publishing options for Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook and every popular social platform.

Karen Cheng introducing the PanoClip:*

Your Whole World... But Tinier

Along with capturing immersive 360° scenes that can be explored with a simple finger swipe, PanoClip also unlocks a world of creative possibilities for traditional "flat" pictures, such as the unique Tiny Planet effect.

Tiny Planet shots roll an entire 360° view into a traditional rectangular or square frame, allowing creators to get mind-bending effects that show the world in an all-new way.

How To Make a Tiny Planet (Karen Cheng Tutorial):

Spin View, SkyWarp and Filter Effects

The PanoClip's Spin View feature lets users take advantage of the benefits of 360° photos on any social media platform -- even those that don't natively support 360° content.

Spin View converts 360° snapshots into short, dynamic video clips that showcase the scene in every direction and bend it into eye-catching shapes.

Plus, users can apply the new SkyWarp effect to add a stunning twist to these video clips. For shots taken outdoors, the PanoClip app will automatically detect the horizon, and then swap out the sky with a variety of preset skyscapes that shift and flow in time with a music clip. It's trippy, fun and will make your friends think you've got crazy editing skills.

The PanoClip app also offers a full range of colorful filters, and a variety of stickers to add a creative touch to any 360° scene.

PanoClip is available now at PanoClip.com. Two body configurations, a full and a Lite version, together offer compatibility for iPhone 6/Plus, 6s/Plus, 7/Plus, 8/Plus and X. An Android version is also on the way.

To purchase a PanoClip or learn more, visit PanoClip.com today.

Insta360 Adds 180 VR 3D Capture to their Pro Cameras http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/20682/insta360-adds-180-vr-3d-capture-to-their-pro-cameras Tue, 16 Oct 2018 22:11:27 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 20682@/talks/discussions image

Insta360 announced today at the Adobe MAX conference that it will add support for 180 3D capture and editing with its leading professional VR cameras, the Insta360 Pro and Pro 2. The cameras are the first-ever pro-level VR cameras to offer support for both 180 and 360 capture.

The upgrade will come via a free software update, available both for the Insta360 Stitcher software and for Insta360’s integrated editing extension for Adobe® Premiere® Pro CC, part of Adobe Creative Cloud®.

“There’s a huge overlap among the creators who are innovating in 180 and the ones innovating in 360,” said Max Richter, Insta360 Head of Marketing. “For the first time ever, they can capture pro-quality content in both formats with one camera and one seamless workflow. Even better, they can shoot both 180 and 360 at the same time from a single vantage point.”

Using the new 180 3D feature, Insta360 Pro and Pro 2 users will have the option to isolate the footage captured by only the lenses necessary to capture a 180 3D video. This footage can be used to easily create a high-quality stereoscopic 180 video for playback in a VR headset, at a resolution of 4K x 4K per eye.

The 180 3D production workflow couldn’t be simpler.

Marine Imaging Technologies Hydrus VR http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/20184/marine-imaging-technologies-hydrus-vr Sun, 05 Aug 2018 11:24:30 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 20184@/talks/discussions

Marine Imaging Technologies (MITech), a revolutionary underwater optical imaging company, has revealed HYDRUS VR, their new 8k underwater cinematic virtual reality system. Created to push the envelope of underwater VR for the next generation of storytellers, HYDRUS VR incorporates the newest version of the famous SONY low-light camera, the UMC-S3CA, and custom SLR Magic E-Mount lenses to provide unparalleled dynamic range and clarity. While virtual reality as a storytelling method is on the verge of becoming mainstream, MITech’s HYDRUS VR was designed to offer that same experience in an underwater environment, both for the audience and the storyteller.

“Cinematic VR is the next step in a continually evolving artistic struggle to not just show people unique underwater landscapes and the stories within them, but to also immerse and transport them in a way that captures their imaginations and senses on all levels,” says Evan Kovacs, founder of MITech. “As passionate fans of cinema, we couldn’t be more excited about the possibilities that HYDRUS VR holds for creating immersive stories about and all aspects of our underwater world.”

HYDRUS VR was over two years in the making. Conceived and designed in 2016, the prototype was built in the Cape Cod facilities in 2017. After discussions with SONY, the camera array was redesigned to facilitate the soon to be released SONY UMC S3CA, their popular UMC cinema camera with their newest low light sensor. By March of 2018, production partner Digital Quilt was stitching test footage of reefs off the Cayman Island and HYDRUS VR has just returned from the Isle Royale in the Great Lakes.

HYDRUS VR was designed to be simple and intuitive, allowing the storyteller to focus on the subject and the story. It can be diver operated, but with a depth rating of 300m, it can be incorporated onto underwater robots as well. Some features include:

  • 8-12K stitched spherical and 3D resolution
  • A custom control system for camera presets, on-the-fly exposure control, and a visual sync point for all cameras.
  • Real time monitoring of the primary camera or multiple cameras.
  • Visual and audio alarms for vacuum loss and water intrusion.
  • “We are very excited to help tell interesting stories and work with our partners to create an unforgettable experience, an experience that will make audiences feel inspired to cherish, save and protect -- and even one day visit -- these underwater environments,” says Kovacs.

RICOH THETA Plug-in Store Running Now http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/20126/ricoh-theta-plug-in-store-running-now Wed, 25 Jul 2018 06:05:56 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 20126@/talks/discussions

RICOH THETA V owners can now "customize" their 360-degree camera with new functionality via downloadable plug-ins from new online marketplace

TOKYO, July 23, 2018 -- Ricoh today announced the RICOH THETA Plug-in Store has gone live. The new, online marketplace makes available downloadable software plug-ins that provide new functionality for the RICOH THETA V fully spherical camera, such as wireless live streaming, remote camera control, automatic image uploads and much more. Starting today, plug-ins created by Ricoh and such organizations as Sony, NTT DOCOMO and HoloBuilder can be downloaded from the site.

The plug-ins are being created by members of the RICOH THETA Plug-in Partner Program, which allows third-party developers to create their own Android^™^-based software plug-ins for the RICOH THETA V, a camera capable of capturing fully-spherical 4K-equivalent video and high-resolution still images. Based on the open-architecture Android operating system, the RICOH THETA V is unique among 360-degree imaging cameras in that its functionality can be further expanded by installing plug-ins.

"The new THETA Plug-in Store helps us serve our customers with technology solutions that directly impact their bottom line," said Mostafa Akbari, CEO of HoloBuilder, which joined the Plug-in Partner Program to build innovative, secure and user-friendly applications for the construction industry. "We are thrilled that Ricoh is providing this flexible, customizable system for developers to get 360-degree technology solutions out quickly and proud to announce our first RICOH THETA Plug-in: HoloBuilder 360 SiteStream. This is the world's first 360-degree livestreaming application that helps general contractors and owners monitor construction site progress from a first-person perspective, in real time."

Ricoh kicked-off the RICOH THETA Plug-in Partner Program last month, with a website that provides easy access to tools and online support. Since then, many developers have joined the program, and five third-party plug-ins are currently available from the store. Three new plug-ins developed by Ricoh are also available.

Ricoh intends to continue to add capabilities to the development environment to meet the needs of consumers and businesses.

New Plug-ins created by third-party developers

Device WebAPI Plug-in

Developer:

NTT DOCOMO, INC. (Development framework provider) (https://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/english/)

GClue, Inc. (Application developer) (www.gclue.com)

NTT DOCOMO has created new functionality for the existing WebAPI plug-in (developed by GGlue) that enables it to collect information from and control the function of the RICOH THETA V's built-in sensor. The Device WebAPI Plug-in conforms to OMA GotAPI specifications, which builds a WebAPI on the RICOH THETA V device and enables function access via a common WebAPI on other devices such as smartphones.

MESH plugin for RICOH THETA

Developer: Sony Corporation (www.meshprj.com)

EVRYPLACE Sync allows for seamless uploads of images created using RICOH THETA V camera and the EVRYPLACE app. Using the plugin, individuals using the EVRYPLACE editor can get instant updates on their projects. They can choose 360 images on RICOH THETA V, open the EVRYPLACE app, and then upload these directly from the camera to their project. EVRYPLACE is ideal for real estate sales, delivery documentation, insurance documentation, training material updates and more.

HoloBuilder 360 SiteStream

Developer: HoloBuilder, Inc. (www.holobuilder.com)

HoloBuilder's 360 SiteStream plug-in gives construction companies 24/7 access to view construction sites in 360° through livestreaming (Livestreaming duration depends on usage environment). Users can set up a RICOH THETA V in mission-critical locations on a construction site and then remotely zoom into the project from anywhere to see what is going on in real time. The plug-in allows adding an infinite number of 360-degree livestreams. • available October 2017 in the USA

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. introduces the 360 Round, a new camera for developing and streaming high-quality 3D content for specialists and enthusiasts who demand a superior virtual reality (VR) experience. Announced at the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC 2017), the Samsung 360 Round uses 17 lenses—eight stereo pairs positioned horizontally and one single lens positioned vertically—to livestream 4K 3D video and spatial audio, and create engaging 3D images with depth.

The 360 Round’s durable, compact design features IP651 water and dust resistance for use in everyday weather conditions and a fanless design to reduce weight and eliminate background noise. With additional features, including PC software for controlling and stitching and expandable external storage2, the 360 Round provides long lasting shooting for any sized job.

The growth of 360 content platforms, such as Samsung VR, Facebook and YouTube, as well as the spread of 360 videos through major media, has increased the need for high-quality 360 videos among VR professionals and enthusiasts. The 360 Round is the first product to meet these needs by combining high-quality, 360-degree imagery with advanced 3D depth at a reasonable price compared to other professional 360 cameras.

“The Samsung 360 Round is a testament to our leadership in the VR market. We have developed a product that contains innovative VR features, allowing video producers and broadcast professionals to easily produce high quality 3D content,” said Suk-Jea Hahn, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Global Mobile B2B Team. “The combination of livestreaming capabilities, IP65 water and dust resistance and 17 lenses makes this camera ideal for a broad range of use cases our customers want—from livestreaming major events to filming at training facilities across various industries.”

The Samsung 360 Round combines high-quality images with a durable design and a content management software solution that allows VR directors to transform virtual reality through a complete set of advanced features.

High-Quality 360 Content

The 360 Round offers high-quality 3D images with a 4K camera, thanks to 17 paired lenses that capture a 360-degree view for a full 3D experience. In addition, the 360 Round enables live streaming with little-to-no latency3 and broadcasts easier than ever, with one-step stitching and control software provided by Samsung.

Durability

The Samsung 360 Round uses a uni-body chassis designed to reduce heat, removing the need for a cooling fan and minimizing size and weight. The compact design helps eliminate excess noise and reduce power consumption for hours of continuous shooting. Additionally, the 360 Round is IP651 dust and water resistant, making it an ideal choice for capturing content in the most challenging environments. With expandable connectors and ports, the 360 Round is designed to easily and quickly connect to additional equipment, such as an external mic, and storage for saving large files.

The Samsung 360 Round will be available in October in the United States before expanding to other markets over time. For more information please visit http://www.samsungmobilepress.com or www.samsung.com/galaxy

http://blog.insta360.com/little-giant-insta360-nano-s-launches-with-360-video-chat-4k-video-all-new-multiview-shooting/

Los Angeles, January 8, 2018 – Insta360 today launched the Insta360 Nano S, a compact but powerful camera that instantly turns an iPhone into the ultimate tool for capturing, sharing and communicating in 360°.

Ready to shoot stunning 4K 360° video and 20 MP 360° photos, the Insta360 Nano S introduces 360° Video Chat and the new MultiView feature – allowing users to show multiple angles of a scene simultaneously and share them via a live broadcast or one-on-one chat.

“With the Insta360 Nano, we invented a new category – a 360° camera that lets people capture immersive content straight from their phones. Now, the Nano S is taking that concept in a revolutionary direction,” said JK Liu, Insta360 founder and CEO. “360° Video Chat, and the ability to show multiple views of a scene at once, empower people to communicate their experiences more fully than ever.”

The Insta360 Nano S is a next-level successor to the Insta360 Nano, the groundbreaking 2016 camera that helped establish Insta360 as a global leader in 360° photography.

As with its predecessor, the Nano S connects directly to an iPhone’s Lightning port, converting the phone’s display into a real-time 360° camera viewfinder and allowing for convenient capture, storing, editing and sharing of content via the Insta360 Nano S’ companion app. When creators prefer to use the camera as a standalone device, an onboard memory card slot and rechargeable battery make it easy.

Part chat app. Part teleportation device.

The Insta360 Nano S allows users to make a 360° video call to anyone—regardless of whether the recipient has an Insta360 camera. With a simple swipe gesture, recipients of a 360° video call can freely explore the world from the perspective of their caller.

To start a 360° Video Chat, users can simply generate a link in the Insta360 Nano S app and then send it to a recipient via any chat or social app. When the recipient opens the link in their web browser, they’ll get a real-time 360° view of their caller’s environment. Meetings, travel experiences, and calls to family and loved ones, will never be the same.

It’s you. And the view.

Call it cubism for millennials. MultiView lets users take advantage of 360° video’s unique benefit – capturing in every direction at once – but also gives them the freedom to control a narrative and curate their footage to tell a story in the most effective way.

With five different layouts and up to three simultaneous angles, MultiView allows users to adjust the content of each section of a split-screen layout individually. The level of zoom is also adjustable, so that users can zoom out to see a full 360° view projected as a “tiny-planet” in one frame, while focusing on key subjects in another.

MultiView is perfect for sharing context or scenery while also capturing a creator’s reactions.

The Insta360 Nano S’ MultiView feature can be used for live-streaming and video chat, as well as for editing 360° photos and videos in unique ways to share with friends or followers.

Shoot first. Point later.

The Insta360 Nano S supports Insta360’s industry-leading FreeCapture technology.

With FreeCapture, users can reframe the best parts of a 360° video in a standard rectangular frame. The magic of FreeCapture is in the unique method of framing a shot – users can re-capture a scene by maneuvering their phone in real-time to explore a 360° clip, exactly as though they had returned to that moment in time and were filming it with a standard smartphone camera. It’s a clever inversion of the usual work flow – letting users shoot first and point later.

FreeCapture empowers people to focus on enjoying the moment while they’re actually living an experience, with the assurance that they won’t miss a thing – in any direction. Then, once the experience is over, they can take their time to review and recapture the best bits.

Next-level stabilization.

The Insta360 Nano S isn’t big, so it has to be smart. Rather than bulk up the device with an internal gyroscope, Insta360 engineers decided to give the Insta360 Nano S access to the ultra-precise gyroscope that people already have in their pockets.

The Insta360 Nano S syncs with an iPhone’s onboard gyro, and corrects for every wobble and shake in real time, using an all-new stabilization algorithm. The result is buttery-smooth footage that’s a dream to watch.

Ready to share. Anywhere.

In addition to the new MultiView broadcasting feature, the Insta360 Nano S also offers integrated support for 360° live-streaming on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter (via Periscope), letting users share real-time, interactive views of their worlds.

Users can easily share their favorite photos and videos to any major social or chat app straight from the Insta360 Nano S app – regardless of whether the platform offers native support for 360° content.

For 360°-supporting platforms like Facebook and YouTube, it’s as easy as linking an account and hitting ‘Upload’. For others, such as Instagram, Snapchat and WhatsApp, the Insta360 Nano S offers a host of ways to convert 360° content into a ready-to-publish form – from customizable 360° photo pan-arounds, to MultiView and FreeCapture edits, to sharing a link to 360° content hosted on Insta360’s free server.

Dark. Light. Whichever feels right.

The Insta360 Nano S comes in two color options – the stylish silver of the original Insta360 Nano and a sleek new matte black.

The Insta360 Nano S has a suggested retail price of $239.00 USD in the U.S. (regional pricing may vary) and is available globally via the Insta360 Store and Amazon.

See the Nano S, plus Insta360 future tech at CES.

From Jan. 9-12, Insta360 will showcase its full line of industry-leading 360° VR cameras at CES in Las Vegas.

Along with a chance to try out the new Insta360 Nano S, visitors will also get an exclusive first look at two never-before-seen innovations from the camera maker. These technologies represent the cutting edge of immersive image capture, and offer a glimpse into the breakthroughs Insta360 has in store for creators.

Insta360’s CES booth is located in the Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall 1, Booth #21200.

Small Wunder

Pocket sized and light weighing only 95g the first of its kind, the surprisingly affordable Wunder360 has a whole host of features to enable effortless photographs and cinematic videos. Innovative on-board stitching technology means that no extra post-production software is needed - this nifty little gadget performs actions such as stitching two fish eye images together with just the click of a button.

The Wunder of you

The Wunder360 has a standard ¼ inch socket for the easy connection of a selfie stick and, for social media addicts, the free Wunder360 App and 5G WiFi band allows footage to be live streamed to Facebook or YouTube quickly and easily.

Integrated ViewPilot and SmartTrack software offers a unique "shoot first, frame later" feature which allows for easy reframing and sharing of 360 degree and standard video footage. Users simply capture the whole event with the high quality camera and then reframe at their leisure, choosing the angle of view and then scrolling the timeline to tag various angles and turn them into seamless, professional footage. The Wunder360 also allows users to follow an object within the frame, leaving the app to automatically generate a video clip - As with a gimbal, the followed object will always remain in the centre of the frame.

Using the latest computer vision technologies to produce 3K videos at 30fps, 1080P at 60fps and 4K photographs, the Inbuilt 9 Axis Gyro Stabilization system means that 360 degree video footage is smooth and shake-free every time for a professional result. It completely changes the way videos are being produced.

The Phantom Clipper feature captures every action in crystal clear 360° detail. Ideal for athletes, dancers and sports people who want to analyse and improve their performance.
