Tokyo People http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16202/tokyo-people Mon, 19 Dec 2016 01:58:50 +0000 GMC 16202@/talks/discussions Strolling around Tokyo, there is a strange but fascinating mood in that city which is hard to explain. A certain loneliness inbetween all these people - "alone in the crowd", but after a while it turns around and you feel part of it. Initially, I wanted to discard the whole film entirely (it was more me testing my new Samyang 135mm f2.0), but then I stumbled across this song "crossed wires" by Neil Williams and Gerard Presencer at the site audionetwork.com - and that was it, that was the mood. Hence, what the heck, I uploaded it ;-)

Shot on the Sony A7sII with the Sigma 24mm f1.4, a Rokinon 17mm f3.5 and the Samyang 135mm f2.0, adio was captured with the Sennheiser MKE440 (stereo shotgun mic)

I AM ALWAYS HAPPY to hear feedback, as thats what helps you to improve, hence keep it coming!

Hi guys, this is a 10minute short movie - i did the music on. It's a sub 10k production - "many people work for the project - not for the money" kind of thing. And it is organized and done by a group of students from my university. It was shot with anamorphic lenses on a Red Epic.

It's in german, but there should already, or will be, subtitles. (U should get the plot anyway - it's more about images.)

This was my first time working with a drone it's DJI 3, it came out remarkably well. Along with a A Camera Sony FS700.

I always thought drones were a bit of a gimmick, but with a wide open landscape, an action that is difficult/expensive to repeat. Stoked with how it came out. Would love to see any epic drone footage anyone else has. Please, link!

I was impressed with the picture quality though, requires a lot of light.

What's your experience?

Overheard at Thanksgiving - Short comedy vid shot entirely on the GH2 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16115/overheard-at-thanksgiving-short-comedy-vid-shot-entirely-on-the-gh2 Mon, 28 Nov 2016 16:30:40 +0000 stampfli 16115@/talks/discussions Decided to do a last minute shoot for Thanksgiving weekend on my Panasonic GH2. Still a big fan of the camera for low-cost shoots.

We used the Panasonic 20mm for the opening shots (would have preferred the entire shoot on this lens but we were in a time crunch) and the Panasonic 14mm-140mm for everything else. A couple focus issues, but overall happy with the content from such a short time frame.

Here is the final product:

Ninja Warrior or Climbing? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16102/ninja-warrior-or-climbing Fri, 25 Nov 2016 07:16:39 +0000 mpgxsvcd 16102@/talks/discussions Some people might remember the climbing videos I posted in the past. I haven't done one of those in a long time. The kids are all still just as into climbing but I just didn't have the time anymore to put into making the videos.

However, one of the parents of a climber decided to build a pretty spectacular American Ninja Warrior course in his backyard. Here is what opening day looked like.

This was filmed with the GoPro Hero5 Black and the Panasonic LX100. Most of it is UHD/4K @ 30 FPS or 2.7k @ 60 FPS. However, some clips were 1080p @ 120 FPS converted to UHD/4K @ 60 FPS. There is one 720p @ 240 FPS clip for the super slow motion. The compression artifacts are terrible but 240 FPS is really cool for slow motion.

If you have any questions about the GoPro 5 please let me know. I know it doesn't look that much better than the Hero4. However, it still is a fabulous camera for what it is designed to do and its price is actually quite reasonable.

There is no color grading done at all. This is footage straight out of the camera pieced together and sometimes slowed down or sped up. No other changes except for just a little general sharpening throughout the video. This is the first 4K @ 60 FPS video I have done for youtube. I don't have the ability to make HDR videos yet. However, I am really impressed with the true HDR videos youtube now has.

The land of the Tiger - a mini doc shot in central India with the Sony A7sII http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16007/the-land-of-the-tiger-a-mini-doc-shot-in-central-india-with-the-sony-a7sii Mon, 07 Nov 2016 05:23:56 +0000 GMC 16007@/talks/discussions A mini documentary about the Tadoba Nationalpark in central India, where a population of tigers can still be seen in the wild. Already last year I made a little film about that area, which I find absolutely amazing: vimeo.com/148837040

This time it was monsoon season, which makes it especially difficult to track and see tigers, as they can easily hide in the jungle, and are not forced to come to the few water holes where you can typically see them. We were the only jeep on that weekend which spotted a tiger walking into the jungle. This posed a little problem for my film, as I had almost no footage.

My friend and colleague Parag Aklujkar, who made the whole trip possible and showed me around finally was helping me out with tiger shots which he did earlier already. Hence, a big "thank you" goes to Parag, without him there would not be any tiger shots in the film about the tigerland ... Also, he was borrowing me his Canon 100-400mm lens, which was really helpful!

I hope you enjoy the trip, let me know what you think in the comments below!

Happy Janmashtami - a mini doc shot in India http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15925/happy-janmashtami-a-mini-doc-shot-in-india Sun, 23 Oct 2016 05:15:08 +0000 GMC 15925@/talks/discussions As happens very often, on a trip through India you just stumble into a festival - so did I on a recent trip to Pune, and I was completely fascinated again by the way the Indians know how to party! From the smallest children to old men, they all dance in the street for the annual Janmashtami. Shot in SLOG2 on the Sony A7sII. Thanks to Mandala Motion Pictures for providing the close up shot of breaking the pot of curd! Follow me on twitter: twitter.com/gunmac

let me know what you think!

Taken from Wiki: "Krishna Janmashtami (Devanagari कृष्ण जन्माष्टमी kṛṣṇa janmāṣṭamī), also known as Krishnashtami, ... or sometimes simply as Janmashtami, is an annual celebration of the birth of the Hindu deity Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu. Dahi Handi (dahi: curd, handi: earthen pot) ... involves making a human pyramid and breaking an earthen pot filled with curd tied at a convenient/difficult height. This event is based on the legend of the child-god Krishna stealing butter. A participant in this festival is called a govinda or govinda pathak. It is mostly popular in the state of Maharashtra. It is part of the main festival Gokulashtami, which is known as Krishna Janmashtami in the rest of the country, and celebrates the birth of Krishna. "

A short film to discourage public defecation. I used my old gh1 with the Humpman patch for the cutaways of the pooping folks. And don't feel any sympathy for them. There have multiple occasions when the taxpayer has built toilets for people who live in shanties, and it has not worked.
