GH2 Slow Motion Music Video http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2513/gh2-slow-motion-music-video Tue, 06 Mar 2012 23:48:22 +0000 deturbanator 2513@/talks/discussions

Unfortunately the slow motion of the video did not come out so prominently. I had the singer sing his song 2x as fast, while I recorded at 60fps. Slowed it down, and then synced the audio. But even at 2 times the speed, the singer had a hard time singing the song. I couldn't imagine making the slow motion effect any bigger.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to improve this effect? Any general comments or criticisms? Feedback is welcomed and encouraged.

Music Video shot with GH2 and old cbrandin 66mb hack http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2526/music-video-shot-with-gh2-and-old-cbrandin-66mb-hack Thu, 08 Mar 2012 04:22:08 +0000 DavidHall 2526@/talks/discussions Last week I shot another music video for band 'Ball Of Mayhem'.

Video was shot with one GH2 using cbrandin's old 66mb hack. Some inserts were done with an NEX.

GH2 used 14-42 kit lens, and an ebay bought Canon 50mm FD 1.8 and a Sigma 24mm FD 2.8, with an ebay bought Kenco wide angle adapter used for certain setups.

Tracking shots were done with a skater dolly placed on a pasting table!

This was another zero budget vid and was shot over the course of about five hours, with one take per setup, including the car drop at the start.

Edited with final cut pro, and my first attempt at grading with Magic Bullet.

Updated w/more footage: Epic and GH2 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2179/updated-wmore-footage-epic-and-gh2 Thu, 02 Feb 2012 18:56:03 +0000 kholi 2179@/talks/discussions Limited time only, because I know this is gonna go south.

The settings are on the vimeo, but here they are again:

EPIC @ 3K 120FPS 8:1 Compression HR Zoom @ 3.5 Soft FX 1/3 ND 0.6

GH2 Standard -2-2-2-2 Zeiss Ultra Prime

Not supposed to be a guessing game, I think it's pretty obvious which one is which so I didn't label them.

This isn't a verus -- it's for my own testing to see how they cut together. Epic's compression goes higher than 8:1, so the quality isn't indicative of what the camera is fully capable of. There's no contest in 4K or 5K (downrezzed to 1080/2k). What-so-ever.

I didn't shoot tight and wide, I grabbed something almost similar to what the Epic was shooting. Anyone can cut together a tight and a wide, try wide and a wide.

Form your own opinions, but for a limited time only. I'm gonna rip it down in a few hours. Video will not be available for download, sorry guys. Next time though, cause I'm gonna do some more testing as we get closer to project dates.

Youth Nationals Bouldering Competition. No Adverse Affects. http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2496/youth-nationals-bouldering-competition.-no-adverse-affects. Mon, 05 Mar 2012 22:03:33 +0000 mpgxsvcd 2496@/talks/discussions I had the chance to shoot video at the Youth Nationals Bouldering Competition this past weekend. My son was competing at Nationals for his first time. They were so many incredible climbers there. These are just a few of them.

I had to shoot with 100% reliable settings that still gave me good quality and reasonable bit rates so I choose the no adverse affects settings. There are no retakes in a live event like this. If you miss one shot you might have missed the climber all together.

Most of the shots in the video were taken in the 720p @ 60 FPS video and stills mode. I took pictures and videos simultaneously.

My cinematography showreel (a lot of GH2 stuff in there). http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2240/my-cinematography-showreel-a-lot-of-gh2-stuff-in-there. Fri, 10 Feb 2012 10:33:30 +0000 Gabel 2240@/talks/discussions I hope I don't get warned for blatant self-advertising, but I just wanted to share my shoowreel here, there's some GH2 stuff in there (some of it hacked, one shot in the HBR mode). Here's a breakdown: First shot, done with HBR mode and Lomo OCT-19 primes 0:26 Driftwood GOP-3 with Nikon AI primes

0:37 HBR with Lomos

0:48 Cbrandin 66mbit with Lomos

0:56 HBR with Lomos

01:02 Cbrandin 66mbit with Lomos

01:03 Driftwood GOP-3 with Nikon AIs

01:11 HBR with Lomos

01:18 Stock AVCHD with Nikon AIs

01:37 Driftwood GOP-3 with Nikon AIs

01:40 Cbrandin 66mbit with Lomos

01:42 HBR with Lomos

01:55 Driftwood GOP-3 with Nikon AIs

02:04 HBR with Lomos

02:14 HBR with Lomos

(sorry for the double spacing, but otherwise it would all just fall behind each other)

This really shows what an amazing camera the GH2 is! Even unhacked it looks amazing (I think what I got with HBR looks the best to me, but that has more to with my work).

There's also some anamorphic stuff in there, done with my generic anamorphic on an AF100 with a Nikon AI 35mm (third shot, you'll recognize the rest)

And if you like, feel free to check in my site or like me on Facebook!

past bored - experiment http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2373/past-bored-experiment Thu, 23 Feb 2012 04:21:06 +0000 ehr 2373@/talks/discussions So this was shot with quantum 9b, panny 20mm pancake, century optics 16:9 converter, ND filter, diopter, tripod, and a zoom H1 recorder. I learned alot in the process of making this, especially the importance of getting good sound. Next time I'm going to find a sound person. 9b held up great. I only had two problems. One was a clip that seems to have a skipped frame or two. I don't know how to explain it but it seems to speed up for just a fraction of a second...not a big deal it is barely noticeable. The second one was odd. I wanted to shoot at 720 60p for one shot, but could not get the camera to record for more than a second. It is odd because I've used 9b to shoot hours of sports and never had a problem...no errors...nothing. Maybe it is because the shot I was trying to get was kind of dark and I was using a higher ISO setting than I normally use for sports. Or maybe it was the combo of high ISO and the panny lens, which I never use for sports 60p. I don't know it was weird.

Anyway this is my first attempt at a narrative-ish kind of piece. Something other than sports, interviews, and test shots of trees. It was fun. I've learned all kinds of things on this forum that I used for this project...lighting, lenses, settings etc. Thanks Vitaliy, LPowell, Driftwood and everybody that makes this place so informative.

It is best watched with earphones in and full screen. All underwater and a couple above water shots are from a GoPro (most notably the third image...looks like crap, but it was too fun a moment to exclude), but the rest are from the GH2 using various hacks. I knew going into this effort it would be more of a learning experience than anything else. I learned about lenses, filters, exposures, film modes, frame rates, etc, etc, all of which I knew none of prior to this year.

I would be surprised if there were many other GH2's in so many different environmental exposures over the last year and I'm happy it made it out in one piece. Any comments or criticisms to are appreciated.

About the production. Shoestring budget film shot over a few days only when friends playing roles were available. I have no real filmaking experience and my first attempt at doing something narrative. Post took the most time as 85% of the audio had to be rerecorded from scratch and Fx work. Overall pretty happy with the result audio could be better but it is what it is. Please note that nobody is trained in any acting skills! ;-)

This was unhacked footage because I needed the improved Auto Focus of version 1.1. Hacked bit rates would have helped the ETC shots. Notice the CA with the 25mm F1.4 lens in ETC mode. Plus a 35mm T1.4 for the stills used in the short. Unfortunately I couldn't secure the 1080 version, this was a DVD rip. The short is gonna try some other fests so I have to keep it private viewing for now. It's called "This File Cannot Be Deleted" (director's in-joke) and is in Chinese, so it has English subtitles. The story is loose at best, but I'd say most of you would like to see the quality of the lenses. It was showcased at a film festival here and held up very well on the big screen.
