The turnout was much better than I thought it would be, and overall it was a fun event.

No signs of the Greek crisis on Ios island... http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13444/no-signs-of-the-greek-crisis-on-ios-island... Thu, 23 Jul 2015 08:28:31 +0000 PeterParkorr 13444@/talks/discussions A video from an idyllic Greek island that is trying to shake it's image as a party town for teens and show off it's more luxurious side instead. Filmed on the GH4 with the Panasonic 14-140mm video zoom and the 25mm Leica F1.4. Edited in Premiere and coloured with Magic Bullet Looks.

There is one scene where the footage straight from the camera was jerky, and the small church appears to jump a few times (~9 second mark). I re-timed the clip so the jumps went with the audio but it was not ideal. Could be from image stabilisation by the lens maybe?

Shichi Go San Tokyo http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13392/shichi-go-san-tokyo Thu, 16 Jul 2015 02:52:53 +0000 GMC 13392@/talks/discussions Tokyo, a fascinating place to be. It has so many different sides, a busy one, a quiet, peaceful one, a highly modern but also a very traditional one. I was lucky when I visited Tokyo on the weekend of November 15th last year that on this day the Shichi-Go-San festival took place at the Meiji Jingu Shrine in Tokyo. It is a traditional rite of passage and festival day in Japan for three- and seven-year-old girls and three- and five-year-old boys, held annually on November 15 to celebrate the growth and well-being of young children.

In front of the Meiji Jingu Shrine I listened to the music of a street musician, who really captivated me. He was playing on kind of a homegrown instrument, mesmerizing! Later, I googled him, found him on twitter, contacted him and he was so generous to provide the music for this film, writing an original song - thanks Sam!

So much Aliasing, noise, blown out highlights and shaky footage but its better than 99% of anything I have seen posted on here.

I've said it many time in the past on camera/filmmaking forums but I wish more discussion was based on the art of filmmaking not pixel peeping/tech discussion. There should be a section on film discussion, theory, what works etc...

Shot with a Panasonic GH2 plus 14-140mm lens.

I had an operation on my toe on July 7 and so my foot is wrapped and I gotta use crutches to move around. Saying that in case people wondered why I didn't move around much or why my shooting wasn't so great.

Yeah a Sony A7S would have been perfect for an event like this. If I had the spare cash, I would have rented it for this event.

Fashion Style Narrative Film 2:30 (what I learnt) & (does the narrative make sense?). http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13264/-fashion-style-narrative-film-230-what-i-learnt-does-the-narrative-make-sense.- Tue, 23 Jun 2015 11:49:12 +0000 prorevolution 13264@/talks/discussions

Things I learnt:

  • Timelapse with LEDs is a lot of fun and looks great as lighting.
  • Recording subtitles in another language no matter how organized you are is tough!
  • Models can be really versatile and if you have faith, they'll come thru!

Would love to hear any thoughts, mainly does the narrative make sense, does it translate well?

Vivaldi's Four Seasons 4K http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13214/vivaldis-four-seasons-4k Thu, 18 Jun 2015 11:12:44 +0000 DrDave 13214@/talks/discussions Vivaldi's most famous work is here performed from a newly discovered manuscript of his lost opera, "Disco Volante," which was unearthed in a trattoria in Venice. Proprietor Giacomo Arditti was in the midst of a remodel when manuscript pages of music literally flew out from inside the walls, where they had been stuffed for centuries as a sort of insulation. Arditti, an enthusiastic collector of antique Venetian Carnival masks, immediately realized the significance of the find. Sadly, only a few pages of the complete work have survived, owing to the inevitable "Acqua alta" of Venice.

I have had several people comment of the similarities to Michel Gondry.

Influences and visual references include Taxi Driver, Radioheads- No Surprises, Howl and The Shining and pretty much all of Kubricks work.

The idea is about confronting your own fears and finding happiness. The quotes are from Jack Kerouac
