My DoP decided to use a GH4. I was first sceptic but after some tests with CineD in 4k on a Atomos Shogun, he convinced me that it was up to the task. All in all, I would say this is a very capable camera for professional production.

Sarpanch Sanju's Tigerland - Stories of Wild India http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14210/sarpanch-sanjus-tigerland-stories-of-wild-india Mon, 14 Dec 2015 01:08:52 +0000 GMC 14210@/talks/discussions On my last business trip to India I stumbled across fascinating stories about the local people and wild animals sharing the same territory when visiting Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve. These people together with the Indian Government show us, how India's rich heritage of wild animals like tigers, leopards and bears can be successfully preserved in their habitat while at the same time local people gain new possibilities to make a living, such that both can live together and grow.

I only had two days to film there and in no way can my little film give an accurate representation of the fascinating fauna and flora of this amazing Tiger Reserve, which streches over 2000 km².

Nevertheless I consider myself very lucky as we have seen a tigress with her 3 cubs already on the first day - I heard people say that over the course of 10 days they have not seen anything.

Also, a very big thank you to my colleague and friend Parag Aklujkar who introduced me to this fascinating side of wild India, having all the local contacts (e.g. to Sanjay Mondhe and Nilkanth Magare) and opening up the world of wildlife photographers of India to me, of which he is a very active member. From his friend Yuvraj Patil he was able to get photos of the tigress when she herself was still a baby, thank you Yuvraj for allowing me to use these photos in the film!

Shot on my new Sony A7s II, all dayscenes in SLOG2, all nightscenes in SLOG3, using the Sgamut3.cine color profile. Graded in DaVinci Resolve. The difficulties in shooting this was that you are not allowed to leave the car, and on the car you cannot use a tripod as the car is constantly moving and shaking. Hence I had to do this handheld, and here the new IBIS of the Sony A7s II comes perfectly into play. Even up to 300mm I find the footage still usable. All shot in 4k for FHD delivery. One mistake I made was that I bought a cheap 10€ Tamron 60-300mm lens which I found too soft for 4k. Additional lenses uses was a Canon FD 28mm f2.8 and a Canon FL 55mm f1.2.

Some shoot's NEED a fixed lens camera - especially when the rotor blades are blowing you all over the place! Wouldn't have been possible to try shooting this on an interchangeable lens system.Maybe the DVX200 would have worked in this environment? I think (in a good way) it was the most challenging shoot we've ever done.

some 1 min interview films shot recently.

Panasonic AF101 with Cinelike V, Norm 2, all set at 0 apart from Master Ped +1: Voigtlander 25, Canon FD's, Lumix 7-14.

Real schoolboy error in Johan's film, i left a piece of kit on the counter in the lab, used Coremelt Slice X to remove, awesome plugin. all the Panasonic cams I own have a hiss from the pre-amps, used Izotope RX5 to remove, another great plugin. All criticism is welcome, good and bad. Cheers Luke.

Gonna try embedding them - not sure if it works, links below otherwise I've tried embedding from Vimeo before without any luck - any advice? password for all is NOVO2015.

Arts and Culture Festivals do work! Driftwood ROAD http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14022/arts-and-culture-festivals-do-work-driftwood-road Tue, 03 Nov 2015 06:18:44 +0000 driftwood 14022@/talks/discussions

I have been extremely busy recently touring my ROAD film (www.driftwoodroad.co.uk) made with a Lumix GH4 around the UK arts and culture festivals.

Recently we entered into the Frequency Festival of Culture in Lincoln, UK and received some tremendous reviews.

We borrowed a DZ13K 17:10 projector & the amazing D75LE6 lens to create a > 200" screen and built a cinema around it, finishing off the auditorium with a car chair ripped out of an old Austin, placed directly in front of the screen (to represent the windscreen vision that the Panasonic GH4 was placed behind).

We received hundreds of really encouraging comments regarding the film which traverses 5 states of the American South West (California, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado) to show a half hour cut from 32 hours of constant road footage. We constructed it as a series of Movements, working closely with musical composer Kevin Matthews: Palm Springs; Wipers; Monument Valley; Night Trucks; The Chase; Utah; Vegas; Death Valley and Big Sur.
We wanted to recreate that perfect feeling of freedom that you feel on a road trip, almost meditative - alone but in perfect harmony with the world around you.

It also gave me the chance to experiment with my new 'Chromarithm' algorithm - mapping music midi controller values from YUV picture values and motion vectors. More about this soon as I get further down the line with version 2.

All in all, I was gobsmacked by how well it was received by both festival attendees and the press alike. Indeed it was a wholly encouraging experience as I never assumed arts & culture festivals would generate great feedback, ask lots of questions, and were as interested in the technical as well as the creative.

Hopefully the film will be shown at other up and coming festivals around Europe soon - hope to see you there!

Cinelike V Contrast 0 Sharpness -5 Noise Reduction -5 Saturation -2 Hue +2 Highlight +2 Shadow -2 Pedestal Level +10

Luminance Level 0-255

The theme was a short about "No Limits" and we shot with "Charnel Taylor" a Rapper who will make his MMA Debut next year.

The Bali Experiencce http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13985/the-bali-experiencce Mon, 26 Oct 2015 04:31:36 +0000 GMC 13985@/talks/discussions Hi Folks, here is my latest film, shot on BMPCC:

Bali - this word evokes a lot of thoughts: the tropical paradise, far away (at least from Austria), very exotic. While all of this is true, what fascinated me even more was that special mood, that atmosphere, "a tropical state of mind".

The Balinese are a very generous, warm people, deeply entrenched in their tradition, which is still incredibly alive. Their style of living, family values, culture - an exceptional experience, which they share with you everywhere, around every corner.

I was thinking a lot how to convey this mood, this relaxed atmosphere and feeling - for me the best way was to have a very slow paced film, showing the exceptional beauty of this little island and their inhabitants.

Therefore, I invite you to immerse yourself into "The Bali Experience". Pump up the volume for the best sound, and let me know what you think, I am very happy to receive feedback!

Indigenous Peoples Day - Native American Festival - October 10 - 12 , 2015 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13964/indigenous-peoples-day-native-american-festival-october-10-12-2015 Mon, 19 Oct 2015 23:44:27 +0000 PauloTeixeira 13964@/talks/discussions This was an event that took place in Randall's Island, New York. I took videos of a Pow Wow in Massachusetts last month and saw a flyer for one that's in New York. I told myself no way am I going all the way to New York from Boston to attend and take videos of it while at the same time, wishing I was able to. Then many days later, I told myself that I really should go for at least 1 day. Get their in the morning and then get back to Boston at night. Days before the event, I decided what the heck, I'll go for all 3 days. Still can't believe I did that.

I shot this with the ancient AC90 camcorder which I bought nearly 3 years ago. Shot in 1080p30. It was also in fully automatic mode and I've included just about every shot I took no matter how it looked. Could have done 1080p60 but I didn't want to run out of space and it would take longer to upload to YouTube since I would have had to export to a bigger file. Would have been sweet if I had shot this with the DVX200 in 4K.
