GH2 Hack: Error with SD Card after Battery Changing

I am working with with GH2 hack 3.63.

As I am filming long sequences (theatre plays, 2 hours and more) I get out of battery sometimes while filming.

So then the following error occurs.

After changing the battery the GH2 can´t write anymore in AVCHD to the SD Card. Error: "AVCHD files: maximal amount reached" Actually I only had 6 to 10 mts files.

I then have to change to another SD Card or continue to film in motion jpeg on the same card.

Error occured with bandwith 44000 bytes and with an 64 GByte Oltramax class 10 card.

GH2 - ISO's to use and avoid

I was looking for a list of "native" ISO's for the GH2 and found a year old discussion on DVX user in which some guy ran tests and reached conclusions, then another guy ran tests and reached different conclusions, then the first guy ran more tests and agreed on some points with the second guy's conclusions, then the discussion veered off the road and started talking about the GH13 and something else, etc.

I'm looking for a list of ISO's to use and/or avoid from someone qualified and experienced. Can any of the GH2 pros in this forum help, or point me to a place with credible conclusions?

Hacked GH2 24p patch - Does Live Hdmi Out Monitoring work?

Hi, I have a hacked GH1 and like it because of the blackout-powel native 24p hack that allows the native 24p where I don't have to do any fiddling with pulldown bla bla stuff at all. Problem with GH1 is that I can't have HDMI live out monitoring, so it is almost impossible for me to keep eyes in focus with a manual lens since I can't make out details well enough on the lcd screen alone. I can setup the focus sharp using the focus assist zoom at first, but if someone moves a tiny bit after recording starts then the shot is basically no good to use. I am hoping the GH2 can help me with this but I have a question about it.

Q: If I get a GH2, and hack it with the GH2 version of the blackout-powell native 24p patch, can I hook up my hdmi computer monitor to it and be able to monitor the output live with that 24p patch installed (at 1080p)? I want the live HDMI out so that I can easily see when the focus goes out and be able to keep adjusting the manual lens as I look at the hdmi computer monitor while recording. My question is I don't know if after I hack the GH2 into 24p native if it will have a live HDMI monitoring feed that is useable direct into an hdmi computer monitor or not. I read that the output from the GH2 only works in 1080i mode, so from that I was thinking if I hack it and put on the 24p native patch the hdmi out may then not work, and that I may be forced to keep it in 1080i mode only if I want to get a live HDMI feed that works into a computer monitor while recording.

I hope everyone can advise me on this if you have tried what I am talking about and know what the results are. Since I don't yet have a GH2 I can't test this and don't want to buy one unless I know I can do this because I don't want to ever again work with anything except native 24p footage, and I don't ever want to work with any new camera that can't do that and give me a live 1080 output that I can use as a focus aid while recording, since the lcd is not sufficient to visually see well enough to focus at a professional level of exactness.

The live hdmi 1080 will probably work as i or p, as long as it is true 1080 out, since I am not recording the live output to a recorder, I just need it for a visual focus aid to magnify the image into a big computer monitor so I can get better focus whenever someone moves a bit out of focus.

Using the original firmware, I'm noticing (sometimes very severe) exposure differences between video modes and the 40 fps electronic shutter SH stills burst mode.

The images below were all shot with the same lens, aperture and (according to the EXIF data) exposure time, with the Driftwood Quantum V5 Beta loaded.

- SH model upscaled to 1920x1080
- 24H
- 40 fps burst mode

What's happening with the burst mode and how do I fix it (if it can be fixed)?

Olympus lens not recognized by a hacked GF1

So last night I was in the shop to buy an Olympus micro 43 lens 14-42, when mounted on the hacked GF1 the camera doesn't recognized it and won't display any images. The LCD though showed the message 'check the lens status'. So is this known problem for hacked Panasonic that any other m43 lense will not work on the body? How can i fixed this? I'm stucked using the 20mm lens. (I used the lpowell hack btw.)

I was experimenting with slow mode (80% of velocity of time normal) but record without audio, after record to 100% and have audio, then i try newly at 80% slow and havent audio. This is normal?

Hi guys, I just wanted to ask some of you maybe more experienced than myself.
I am currently in pre-production of a multicamera live music shoot.
For those of you who maybe already tried this-
I will bring my GH2 and my HV30 (which also does 25p) to a shoot with already about 3-4 interlaced cameras there.
GH2 of course will be main cam.

The 30min limit will be a problem in the 3-hour long concert, but i can restart the cam. no biggie.
From your experience, would you rather have hacked 50i or unhacked 25p in this live-event to intercut?
target is DVD.

Moving with GH2 to USA

I am moving to USA with my GH2 and AF101, both of which were bought in Europe. I guess this means I should get used to shooting at 30 FPS. My question: can I use the standard firmware of a PAL model in the USA without hacking, or do I need to hack to get best results? What other changes should I make when shooting in artificial light in the US?

Got my GH2 about a week ago and have been testing it with different hacks. I'm liking it, however, the dynamic range is a bit of a downer imo! After testing all the different color profiles, nostalgic seems to have the most latitude with everything set to -2. My tests were confirmed on this site http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonicDMCGH2/page12.asp . It appears that GH2 has the least latitude of all the cameras tested. For me, to get the GH2 to bump up 3-4 steps (it's now rated at about 10 steps) on par with the canons with technicolors color profile would a BIG bonus. Just curious about the outlook of that happening? With that said, I want to give a big shout out to VK, in case I came across as ungrateful.

I have a friend visiting Japan and he just purchased a Panasonic DMC-GX1 for me.
To find that the menus are all in Japanese and it seems like it cannot be changed to English.

Any reccomendation on a firmware or update that could alter this?

GH2 Resolution. Is it enough for my otherwise perfect film?

I bought a GH2 and after some tests using the hacks available I used a pentax 50mm lens at f2.8 set to 160 isa (The lowest setting) I assume this might be like an EX1 without gain? Or maybe the GH2 has an optimum ISO setting maybe 500 Sorry new to digital cameras. When viewed on my monitor I found the GH2 resolution was very good. However once recorded using Intra 176mbs which is a great colour improvement on the 44mbs which tends to have a redish tinge. I found the resolution to be not as good as my old EX1 with a Letus adapter and using the HDSDI out and recording to pro res 220.

Some have said by using the letus adapter I would only effectively be able to resolve about 700 lines indeed some did quick and dirty tests. If this is the case then I wonder how many lines the GH2 resolves? I estimate then maybe 550? Seems a bit low.

Does anyone know or have an idea?.

The firmware version 1.1 will be released to enhance the functions when the camera is used with the new power zoom lenses - LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 14-42mm / F3.5-5.6 ASPH. / POWER O.I.S. (H-PS14042) and LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 45-175mm / F4.0-5.6 ASPH. / POWER O.I.S. (H-PS45175).

The following functions will be available with the new firmware:
- Display of the local length
When you zoom, the focal distance is displayed and you can confirm the zoom position.
- Step zoom
When you operate the zoom, the zoom will stop at positions corresponding to predetermined distances.
- Zoom resume
When you switch the power switch [ON], the zoom positions when you last switched [OFF] are automatically restored.
- Selectable zoom speed
Users can select the speed of electric-powered zooming.

The new firmware program ver.1.1 will be available worldwide from the beginning of October at http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/.

I ask this question, because it never occurred to me before that it could be the case. I always saw it as a true high resolution, no moire/aliasing/over heating camera but never high ISO. Now with constant improvement with the hack and the unlocking of the ISO, I see an example as the one below at ISO 10 000

I am asking myself if the combination of high resolution and preserve detail in the shadows of the gh2, has resulted in an image that might be a little noisier than the Canon but scaled to the same resolution is better. The example above cleans up very well because of much more detail with some noise reduction software. As you are starting up from a much more detail in the end even if you loose some you end up still better. It is the same thing as pixel binning to reduce noise. If you compare the Nikon D700 to the Canon 5d2, at pixel level the D700 is better but as the Canon as about twice the number of pixel at the same viewing size or print they are nearly equal. Another very nice one here with the high bitrate hack and test of underexposed high iso shots

GF2 as good "B" cam for the GH2?

I'm getting geeked out enough taking home movies that I'd love to get a 2nd camera to act as a "B" cam - something so when I edit I have another point of view. My local camera shops have GH2 bodies only, but I don't want to be out another $899 for this.
Out of GH1, GF1, GH2, G3, etc, which one would you recommend that would be the easiest to match footage up with? Being able to record long amounts of time is a plus; my "B" cam could sit on a tripod and get the wider angled shot.

Dark line appearing at bottom half in low light GF2

I'm testing the GF2 in the evening with just the bedroom lights on, and I see a black line appearing on screen (along the height of the DISP. button). It is not straight, but is a little curved. When I darken the image by putting my hand in from of the lens, the line is very visible. The line is also visible when recording video in low light, but because the video is (still) heavily compressed, it is not pronounced. But when the patching begins it certainly will. I don't think it is visible in pictures. I shall take a picture of it with my GH2 later. Maybe I have a "dirty" sensor? Exchange it? Or is this a common problem?

When I started up my GH1 this morning all of the buttons around the Menu/set button activated the Focus Assist on the LCD. I've tried going through the menus, turning on and off different focus functions but nothing is working. Any advice? Thanks

Shooting FHD 29.97 with the GH1

I am thinking about getting the GH2, but lately read an interesting article about the GH3 coming out with some great features such as AVCHD 2,0, 60p mode and better low light functionality.

Do you think is it worth waiting? Has there been any release date mentioned yet?
