GF6 Issues Topic http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7073/gf6-issues-topic Sun, 26 May 2013 11:05:58 +0000 Nakame78 7073@/talks/discussions I bought the GF6 for my wife a few days ago here in Japan, it's a very nice camera, light and compact. However the WiFi is giving me issues similarly to what I experienced with the GH3 at the beginning. The only difference is that now with the GF6 the WiFi is basically unusable, whereas with the GH3 after some struggle I managed to get it work. The first time I set up the WiFi with the "Image App" application on the iPhone it worked easily, I played a bit with it and it was perfect. However after switching off the WiFi.. there is no way I can connect my iPhone to the GF6 anymore. WiFi connection is established and the camera is asking to open Image App on the iPhone, but when I do so the connection is never established. No need to say I've tried everything, restart from scratch, delete the WiFi settings, no luck. I've then tried with another iPhone and.. same! It worked perfectly the first time, but after that.. gone. No more. I will try to contact the vendor and see if they can give assistance...

GH3 back from service, is now 60P instead of 50P? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7084/gh3-back-from-service-is-now-60p-instead-of-50p Mon, 27 May 2013 12:39:53 +0000 AndersM 7084@/talks/discussions Hi,

I just got my GH3 back from service where they swapped the main board. The problem is that it now has NTSC framerates instead of the PAL framerates that I need. It also has some kind of service menu now called ROM BACKUP as you can see in the attached picture.

It was returned with firmware 1.0 and I have upgraded to 1.1 without that making any difference.

Is there any way to get it back to PAL framerates, or do I have to return it once more?

Thanks!!

GX1 American NTSC-only can't swich to PAL http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7039/gx1-american-ntsc-only-cant-swich-to-pal Wed, 22 May 2013 07:23:29 +0000 zola13 7039@/talks/discussions Hi. I have bought a North American NTSC-only Panasonic GX1 and want to use it in Europe in (PAL, 25p). Will the hacked firmware solve my problem? (Currently its running 1.1.) I am affraid it won't, since currently there is no point in the menu like video output or NTSC-PAL swich. I have also contacted the local service who told me that no firmware will solve the problem since the hardware is slightly different, I had to change the motherboard of the camera. So once again, will the hack insert a new point in the menu for switching the NTSC/PAL or 30p/25p? Or, what else could I do? Thanks in advance!

Has there been a hack to get the high speed burst mode (40fps) of the GH2 at a lower res to get faster fps? Is there no way this can be done? Is it hardwired or something?

Possible to disable video recording start/stop on GH2 main shutter button? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6965/possible-to-disable-video-recording-startstop-on-gh2-main-shutter-button Tue, 14 May 2013 12:43:05 +0000 lorilin 6965@/talks/discussions Is it possible to disable the stop/start video recording function of the GH2's main shutter button? When I'm shooting video, I'd like to use that button just to change focus while filming. But it's so sensitive -- if I press just the tiniest bit too hard the camera stops recording rather than just refocusing. (I do practice, but still end up missing shots.)

I am hoping that I just missed a setting somewhere and that it's possible to set it up so that the red video button handles the stop/start, and the main shutter button does focus only. It wouldn't be the first time I've been confounded and confused by the settings!

Cheers and thanks in advance, Lori

GH2 vs AF100 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/26/gh2-vs-af100 Sat, 23 Apr 2011 23:44:21 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 26@/talks/discussions Any sign of not expressing your personal view, but blatant AF100 marketing compain, that is strongly going on few leading sites, will be eliminated.
Reason?
Panasonic thrown unprecedented amount of money on AF100 marketing. And it is long known for heavy forums usage.

Famous AF100 advantages list:
1. 3 position ND filters (if your read the DSLR forums a lot you know the headaches people go through finding a good all around ND filter solution)
2. The LCD on the AF100 is quite a bit better and is larger...the VF is also more ergonomic.
3. HD-SDI (ability to get 4:2:2 from a very reliable output is very important to some)
4. Overcranking/undercranking (this feature is priceless for many shooters)
5. Waveform + Vectorscope
6. Detail coring/numerous gammas/ much deeper control of the image parameters, etc
7. Uncompressed 16 bit audio recording capability/xlr inputs
8. Timecode/Synchro function
9. 6 Scene files for easily recalling adjustments
10. Dual card slots
11. Max bitrate available in way more modes than the GH2
12. More shooting modes on AF100 like 1080 30P, 720 24P, etc.
13. Remote control pricelesss for certain situations
14. Longer battery life/ Better batteries available
15. PAL/NTSC switchability
16. Zebras
17. Headphone jack
18. Negative gain function
19. Ergonomic features like the handle/ tape hook, etc
20. Slow synchro/High speed shutter - can be set by degree

Strange marks on video - Damaged Sensor? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6782/strange-marks-on-video-damaged-sensor- Tue, 23 Apr 2013 11:03:34 +0000 DaleCampbell 6782@/talks/discussions So a mark/blotch has appeared on my videos recently! I think it happened after a lens change and there was some dust/dirt on the sensor as well which was visible with a loupe. However the mark in question doesn't seem to be visible when looking at the sensor?! It is present when using different lenses/no lens even It moves in ex-tele mode (to a position which would seem to correlate with the sensor crop of that mode) If I shoot a scene which has an over exposed section it will disappear as I move the camera to place the mark onto the over exposed area- i.e. no present when over exposed

I have tried a blower to remove the dust and also swabbed the sensor with a cleaning kit which removed all the dust etc. but this mark remains!!!

So what does it look like to you and has anyone encountered something similar?

Thanks in advance all!

Most of the footage is color and general 'home video' stuff (Christmas, somebody's wedding, some kid's birthday, etc), so what is the best picture profile on the GH2 to accurately reproduce the original color of the film?

I typically shoot with 'Smooth' all at -2, but that's so I get a very flat, gradable image. I will probably transcode the AVCHD files straight to an internet ready H.264 file, but I have no plans of grading any of it.

GX1 vs GF5 etc... (already have a GH2) http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6743/gx1-vs-gf5-etc...-already-have-a-gh2 Fri, 19 Apr 2013 00:15:38 +0000 Flacnvinyl 6743@/talks/discussions This is a bit of a weird post. I have a small army of GH2s and completely love them. I run them all hacked and use on every paid gig. However, I am going to purchase the Panny X 14-42mm lens for an upcoming concert (not a paid gig, just one I am attending) and noticed that for a few hundred above the cost of the lens, I could get the 14-42mm WITH a GF3/5 or GX1! THEN, I noticed the GX1 is supported by the hack..

Do you all have an opinion on a nice SMALL M43 camera supported by the hack? This would likely be a B camera on future shoots, and would be a great travel/family camera. The GX1 looks nice. If the hack allows me to get great footage and manual app controls over filming, then I would be THRILLED!

Any feedback is GREATLY appreciated. I love my hacked GH2s... Vitality has done amazing work.

While shooting the battery ran out and the camera shut down. When I put in the fresh battery, I could record no problem, but i could no longer do any playback. When I got home I returned the camera to the original firmware, but not matter what I do I cannot get the camera to go into playback mode. Every time I hit the playback button the screen goes black and I get the SLEEP CANCEL" message. When I try and change the settings in the playback menu, it won't let me and the menu mode closes and goes back to shooting mode. I've tried everything, card reformatting, shooting in different modes, and resetting all settings, but nothing seems to work.

Any suggestions?

Panasonic GH2, Faulty Shutter Release Button. http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6212/panasonic-gh2-faulty-shutter-release-button. Fri, 22 Feb 2013 06:28:04 +0000 JimmyH 6212@/talks/discussions I recently purchased a GH2 as they are selling at stupid prices and thought it would be a good upgrade from my little LX3.

My charger died after around two charges and from new my camera has had an odd feel when the shutter release button is pressed at even the slightest angle. I was starting to wonder why I randomly couldn't review my photos or access the quick menu, it seems the button is sticking at the half press position.

As the button has been popping up at an angle it has rubbed on the paint which is now starting to flake off causing more sticking problems. To date I have probably used the camera five times but I am worried Panasonic will deem it as being user error as even to me it would look that way.

Has anyone else had a similar problem with a GH2?

Apologies for the poor pic- http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/pp350/fairy1_02/P1110639_zps34aba5ec.jpg

Lower MP images in GH2 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6653/lower-mp-images-in-gh2 Wed, 10 Apr 2013 10:07:06 +0000 FilmCat 6653@/talks/discussions Hi,

I'm really sorry if this has been asked before but I have had a good look around the forum and others but is there any way to reduce the resolution of raw images taken in any of the modes on the GH2. My situation is that I would like to do some short time lapses by taking images rather than video. By holding down the shutter button the buffer empties in such a way that it can take 1 15MP RAW image every 2 seconds. If I could reduce the MP of the image I believe that I could reduce this time. I realise that using a faster SD card would also reduce this time, more over around 6MP would do the job just fine, please let me know if this is possible or any alternatives.

Thanks, Max.

Iris Tweak vs ISO Tweak http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6528/iris-tweak-vs-iso-tweak Thu, 28 Mar 2013 05:54:25 +0000 PCortacans 6528@/talks/discussions (Vitaliy, I have no idea where to post this; sorry if this is not the right place)

I was reading the other day about de-clicking old Nikon lenses, and people's comments about how they'd like to slightly tweak the iris "on the fly" to adjust for minor light changes. Since I have a photographer background, the first thing that came to my mind is "Why would you want to do that? Doing so will change the depth of field!". Ok. Tweaking can be interpreted as "less than a click", that is, less than 1 stop (or 1/2 in some brands). But still, my question to you guys is "Why?" Is it because it is the only basic parameter (Aperture/SSpeed/ISO) that you can change on the fly, and not via camera menus? (You wouldn't want to change the SSpeed anyway.... And for the sake of this discussion, let's pretend we are on the less noisy side of the ISO values). What are the benefits of changing Iris? If you could decide to change Iris vs ISO (which takes me back to "Panasonic: Auto-ISO in Manual Movie Mode, por favor...!!!"), which one would you choose?
