RAW Image Corruption on GH2

Any idea what causes this sort of corruption in a RAW image off a GH2? It's not every image (maybe one in thirty) and the line isn't always in the same place. I only noticed these after they were copied onto an external hard drive (which I've since scanned for errors). The images were copied off a Transcend 32GB card via a Lightroom import using the inbuilt memory card reader on my laptop.

Options: - Memory card problem - Memory card copy problem - Memory card reader problem - Hard disk corruption

I'm currently in Peru and I don't have other cards and readers here to test :(

I've attached a resized JPG export of the problem, but I can post the RW2 file too if it's helpful

Like you maybe heard on 43rumors a new camera the GX1 will be announced in japan the 8 november for after be released
in Europe and USA for about one month later. 43rumors just said that one of their top source had the chance to play with
this amazing toy and they are saying that ''this is the camera with the best image quality to date.'' IN HIS OPINION

It has the G3 sensor. By previous tests the G3 has a better HIGH ISO than the GH2. But also a new much improved processing engine ;) so just imagine...

What you guys think about it is a Great low light camera ?

Hello. Does anybody know lens pinout for Panasonic gh bayonet? I need to remotely control focus of mft lens connected to gh body. Can I cut some wires of bayonet connector and connect external encoder to control the focus? Or can I do this by adding some DIY electronics? Of course I mean partial disassembling the body. And I need iris still controlled by body controls as usual. Thanks in advance.

Avid / Edius GH2 workflow 25pfs wraped in 50i (also works for Canon and other formats)

Hi,

I just post a few workflow ideas for Avid and also Edius to get around some common problems.

Some cameras (eg GH2) wrap the 1080/25p in a 50i (25fps) container or do other weird stuff like show you a very strange framerate.

Workflow Avid MC6 or higher:

create a 1080/25p project
AMA link your card (don't rename your files otherwise your AMA Link doesn't work)
In your bin enable the "field motion" column/heading and with a click on the line(s) Avid interprets the file(s) as progressive or progressive strobe.
Transcode to Avid DNX and hope for the best because Avid struggles a lot with GH2 files (Avid is king with pro files but h.264 isn't pro for him).
When you run into transcode troubles you have to transcode the files that didn't work with a 3rd party program like usually Squared5 (doesn't like my GH2 files too), so like Adobe media encoder.

if you have files with weird frame rates

Open the Console (Under Tools) and type eg. "SetAMAQTForcedFrameRate true 25.00" and hit enter
some message appears and your linked AMA's are now 25fps (or whatever you typed in)
you have to type in the commando every time you start your Avid (doesn't remember it)
to stop type "SetAMAQTForcedFrameRate false 0"

If you have different framerates / resolutions you can mix and match them in Avid

work in another project on a different framerate / resolution
open your main project
import the bin(s) from the other project(s)
Avid will handle everything

And because I'm on field in the middle of nowhere with a small laptop I take this approach to check my files, make a rough cut or transcribe an interview.

Workflow Edius: Basically you don't have to think about anything

drag in whatever you like
change some files to another field motion
mix other framerates/formats,...

I don't love Edius, but you have to love some features of it like working with everything native on a small laptop or ...

Panasonic Lumix GH3 Video Flickering Problems

Hi...I'm an amateur videographer and I recently purchased the Panasonic Lumix GH3 after researching many cameras for video quality - this camera was highly rated. However, I notice the video flickers - dim to light very rapidly when zooming in and out in all video file formats. I sent the camera to Panasonic Canada's repair outlet in Burlington, Ontario. The problem was confirmed by the repair shop and Panasonic sent this reply to them. Here is the forwarded reply to me from the repair technician:

     Good morning Wayne,

I have been advised to inform you the camera and lens are operating to factory specifications. These are characteristics of this series of cameras. This camera cannot be compared to a normal video camera. The factory explanation is below. The camera will be returned to you as we received it. I apologize that I could not have been of better assistance.

“We do not know any recording condition, but, from motion picture we suspect that it seems that it is normal performance of this unit (within specification).

Basically, the collecting amount of light changes depending up on the Zoom position.

In case of H-FS1442A, Aperture Range F3.5 (Wide) - F5.6 (Tele).

When recording the motion picture with P mode, the unit try to maintain fixing aperture.

When Zooming the lens, brightness is changes after passing concerned level of aperture.

In case of single lens cameras, aperture changes not "linear" but "step by step", although at switching point it is compensate using shutter speed and ISO sensitivities, exposure might be change.

(Just for your reference, for movie/Camcorder, since lens and Camcorder is one package, aperture is able to control linearly, exposure is not changed even if Zoom condition changes.) “

Panasonic GH2 AVCHD Files transcode or not?

I am new to the GH2. I have shot a few shorts with the camera since having it. Right now, I use sony vegas pro 12 to edit my videos. I import the MTS files into vegas, edit, then export to wave. I have read a lot on this forum about transcoding mts files to prores and other formats to get the most out of post processing. I am wondering, should I transcode my mts files before importing them into vegas or is it fine to just load the avchd files drectly into vegas pro and leave it as that? What i've read on the forum so far about this topic has just left me more confused as before. Should I transcode the mts file or not?

I must say that I have been very impressed by the quality of the videos i've shot so far using only the MTS files. But if transcoding the mts files will make my videos even better I would like to know.

I see the cinema mode, HBR mode. What options is for what?

I did a shoot at the Ripley's Aquarium in Toronto, Ontario today and ran into a weird problem. When I hit record 3-4 frames of video would be my desired white balance and then it would shift a few thousand degrees warmer without changing anything. It did this on a few clips but not all of them. Has anyone experienced this before? I will upload a few examples shortly.

I need a cheap throw away camera that I can mount to vehicle exteriors. I have considered many of the action cameras, but I do not like working with fish eyed video. I am now considering purchasing a Gf3 to mix in with my g6 footage.

How do you think this will fare with the g6 footage? Do you think I would be better off getting a dedicated action camera and modifying the Image Distortion?

Is the PAL / NTFC ability built into the firmware? Could I load the NTSC firmware onto my PAL GF6? I can change the output setting but it still doesn't allow me to play videos back on a NTSC TV, just still images, is this behaviour normal?

The detail the GH3 keeps in the blacks is pretty amazing. Never ceases to amaze me. The noise is so manageable! This was at ISO 800. This is a 100% crop, just a curves adjustment + Neat Video NR. I probably should have pushed it further for the example, but you get the point.

How do I get Canon colors with a GH2?

I'm looking to Canon colors STRAIGHT OUT of my GH2 for video. Or at least, as close as possible.

I know there's white balance settings and film settings you can mess around with, but I haven't been able to get the balance right.

Does anybody know what settings I can use to get Canon Colors?

It is Christmas, time of hoping and getting. They are making GH4 now. I think we can affect features it will has. GH3 had many features that users had hoped. Lets not be too modest. Here is my hopelist: Many are valid for GH3 FW update too.

-autoiso in M

-focus peaking obviously

-autoiso limit for video or iso range

-when recording video, ALL exposure values must show in automatic modes. Now those are blocked.

-every menu item programmable to every Fn (maybe not format)

-exposure values programmable to C1,2,3

-more C memory slots

-manual settings for creative mode

-AE/AF lock on-off-on-off etc., during recording

-better EVF resolution and better ocular

-no more useless buttons

-4k video 50/60P (pal/ntsc switchable)

-bigger handgrip, better button layout ergonomics

-flat mode in video which uses whole sensor dyn range

-separate video/photo switch. So all modes and handy buttons is in use for video. And then all settings must be independant for video or photo.

Cranking frame rate on GH3

So I finally broke down and got myself a GH3. Could almost not be happier with the ol' GH2, but the one thing I was missing was the higher frame rate for 1080p. Thing is, I bought the new camera in Sweden, and default settings do not include 60fps in either of the modes, only 50fps, I think. 50 is fine I guess, but it bugs me that I lack the slightly faster setting. Switching output from PAL to NTSC seemingly does not do the trick, and neither does updating firmware to the official "GH3__V12.exe" from Panasonic. Am I missing something or am I screwed? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Is G1 worth keeping? Picked it up cheap with 14-45mm.

Hey Guys, just picked up combo of G1 with a 14-45mm cheap on ebay so I could use the lens with the pocket cam. I know nothing about the G1 and I'm planning on just putting it back on ebay, but I thought I would check to see if it is worth keeping for a possible backup or trash cam. I believe there is a hack, but again I know nothing about the camera.

I want to use my Kindle Fire HDX as an external camera control and monitor for my GH3 using Lumix Link. The only way to do it is to sideload the Lumix Link apk file, but I cannot find that anywhere. I even have Lumix Link installed on my cell phone and can't find the apk file there. Mysterious. There are a few links that I can find on Google, but they always refer me to the Google Play store and the only option there is to install the program. Kindle doesn't even connect to Play Store, so that doesn't help me.

Does anyone know of a link to the Lumix Link apk file please?

Best settings for unattended Video with a GH3

I recently bought a GH3 with 14-140 HD OIS lens The purpose is unattended Video for more than 60 minutes at a time. I am the Church Vidographer, but prefer to watch the Service rather than the camera. So this is indoors from about 40-60 ft and with poor light. Each week I burn DVDs for those who want them.

Then there is my bowling which is done with 1080P 60 and viewed regular and slow motion. It is used to critique mine and my fellow bowlers. I watch the original footage on my Ultra High Def 30" Monitor. And, of course, I cannot be behind the camera and bowl at the same time.

What setings do you suggest?

Have you guys made improvements to your GH3/GH2. Here are mine.

-Strap is shoe lace. Thick original is too big for me always in a way.

-Original EVF eyecup too big and sharp square. I cant see hole picture. My new is much more comfortable.

-Grip covered with soft cloth. Not so much pressure in hand.

-Rubber band in 100-300 zoom. Zooms silky smooth.

-Mode dial enhancements.

I have a GH2 and am still getting stuttering footage when I do any kind of pan or shot that's not static. I have tried using different shutter speeds, but that doesn't seem to help. I usually shoot on 24p and with a shutter of 50, but as I said I increased to a faster shutter to see if that made a difference which it did not. Your thoughts?

BTW, I am using class 10 SD cards so it can't be the card speed that's holding things up.

Hey guys, apologies if this isn't in the correct section.

Did a search, only a few things came up... but these are posts from 2011. New cameras pop up all the time etc.

I'm in need of a decent camera that will act as my "C" camera (a backup body, also as my wide-perspective for weddings and other events). Price should be about $400US. What would you suggest?

The cameras I've been looking at are:

Lumix GF2
Lumix GF3
Lumix GX1
GoPro Hero 3+ (out of my price range, but it's on the list because I originally considered it)
Used GH2 (I can't seem to find any on eBay AU, and other websites have them still sitting on a price of $600+)

Some help here would be great.. as I have looked and looked, but I have no idea what to expect. I just want a camera that slots in with these two cameras but also not break the bank. If it comes with a lens, that is helpful.

For documentary I use panasonic GH3 in 50P.mov rec -3-3-3-3 + voigtlander nokton 17.5mm f/0.95 and 35-100 F2,8 Panasonic

for sound : with one mono microphone schoeps CMBI + mk4 capsule on the gh3 minijack in / and one more mini recorder audio (tascam…etc) in the pocket of the protagonist (in rec permanent + hold) For editing direct the 50P .mov with FCPX 10.1 (very good now) Neat vidéo for noise…

What is it? I mean built in time lapse capabilities with manual settings and electronic shutter, not using an intervalometer. I know G6 has it, what about GF series? Some Olympus model maybe? Or perhaps even some compact camera.

I'm doing a job where I need to shoot lots of time lapses with long shutter speed and GH2's mechanical shutter is annoying.

A tad bit confused about hacking the GH2

I understand how to use Ptool and flash the firmware. My question is about the setx.ini files. I know the letters at the bottom correspond to whichever INI file I load settings from. Most of the hacks seem to have only one setx.ini file, but all the tutorials seem to have multiple letters green indicating ini settings. My question is, do most just need the one ini, or am I missing some other inis? I've looked at the Driftwood ClusterX and SanityX settings. I do have a Sandisk Extreme Pro, so I am prepared to take on super high bit rates.
